NORTHFIELD March 3 - Alvin Smith died Friday morning at his home on North Main street following a five week illness. He was born in Moretown, October 16, 1867, the son of William and Jerusha (Hedges) Smith. He left Moretown in 1905 to come to Northfield where he has since resided.
He was married to Edith Slack. she died in 1924. A son Jasper was born to this union. Mr. Smith married Jarilla Hedges for his second wife. she survives with one daughter, Millie Lenora Smith, also the son Roy; a grandson Richard Smith, and a sister, Mrs. Jane Abbott, all of Northfield. Mr. Smith;s passing was the last of eight sons. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 at 4 State avenue with interment in Elmwood Cemetery.

NORTHFIELD - Lawrence J. Hedgeds, 82, died at Central Vermont Hospital, Berlin, Saturday morning.
He was born in Northfield Nov. 26, 1894, son of James and Luella (Getman) Hedges. He was married to Ruth C. Mudgett May 2, 1923, in Randolph. they lived for 43 years on Vine Street, Northfield, moving to Northfield Falls in 1976.
He was a stonecutter for Rock of Ages, retiring in 1965, and later was custodian for the Brown Public Librart for many years. He served in World War 1 on four fronts in France and Germany. He was a member of Charles N. Barber Barracks, World War I BVeterans and Sorrell Maynard Post 63, American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Elton of Agawam, Mass.; two daughters, Priscilla Hedges and Mrs. albert (Christina) Chamberlain of Brookfield, Mass.; one sister, Jurila Smith of Northfield; seven grand-children; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Little White Church, South Northfield, Ruesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Roland O. Daniels, pastor will officiate. There are no calling hours. contributions may be made to the Northfield Ambulance Association, in care of Shawn Bryan, toewn clewrk, Northfield, Kingston Funeral Home of Northfield in charge of arrangements.

NORTHFIELD - Elroy Bryan Hedges, 67, died thursdaty night in a Barre hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Northfield, March 26, 1899, the son of James and Luella (Getman) Hedges.
On Oct. 20, 1920, he married ruth rich in Northfield.
Mr. Hedges moved to Barre in 1940, where he was employed at the Burrura and Sons Granite Company as a lumper. He retired in 1964 and had since resided in Montpelier.
He was a member of Barre Lodge 1391, Loyal Order of Moose, and CIO.
He leaves five sons, Theodore and Frederick of Montpelier, Charles and James of Northfield and Melvin of Graniteville; four daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Theresa) Pecor of Waterbury, Mrs. George (Katherine) August of Manchester, Conn., Mrs. Guy (Arlene) Marcoux and Mrs. John (Eilene) Hannen, both of Brattleboro; two brothers, Lawrence of Northfield and Louis of Charlestown, N.H.; two sisters, Mrs. Jarilla Smith of Stowe and Mrs. Lottie Larrabee of Barre; 35 grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was the son of Elroy and Ruth (Rich) Hedges and was born at Northfield Falls. He served in the European Theater during World War 11 and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war he worked for many years as a self-employed contractor in the Central Vermont area. A member of St Augustine's Church, the Brown-Johnson Post 792 VFW, and American Legion Post 3, he was a past commander of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Northeast Fiddlers' Association. He died at his Grandview Terrace home in Montpelier. He and Gladys were the parents of three children.

Seattle, March 10 - (AP) Funeral services will be held Wednesday for A. Roy Mason, 60, formerly of Medford, Ore. and San Francisco, who died at his home here Sunday. He had been in the reality business here since 1935. Mrs. Mason, a son, Arthur of Long Beach, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Orrin Babcock, Port Angeles, survive.
Mr. Mason was a resident of this city abour 1920, and remained here for two or three years. while here he was in the automobile business, having an agency on North Bartlett street known as Mason's garage. At that time he was in business with Earl Brown.
While in this city, Mr. Mason was a resident on south Holly Street. It was reported that he died of a heart attack.

McMINNVILLE - James Reiley, 78, resident of McMinnville for the past two years, died at a local hospital Monday. He was born at Beatrice, Neb., moving to Seattle in 1904, where he married Jessie McMullen on June 19, 1912. He engaged in the automotive business in nearby Aberdeen until 1944, when the moved to Portland after his retirement.
He was a member of the Aberdeen, Wash., Elks Lodge and First Christian Church in McMinnville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James, Carlton, and Robert, Olympia, Wash.: and eight grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. (DST) from Macy and Son Chapel in McMinnville. Rev. Ladd Howard will officiate. Private interment will be in Portland.

BLACK RIVER FALLS - Ernest J. Fryer, 65, died at the Krohn Clinic Thursday where he had been a patient for the past week. The former Humbird resident was engaged in the service station and motel business on highway 12 from 1940 until three years ago.
Survivors include his wife Belle, and a daughter Lottie Ruth Fryer, Black River Falls; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Speers, Aberdeen, S.D.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Humbird Methodist church with the Rev. Wayne L. grover officiating. burial will be in the Merillan Cemetery.
The Colonial Funeral Home, in charge of arrangements, advises that friends may call at the Fryer residence on German Hill.

Fryer, Belle (18 September 1885 - 15 October 1967)
Mrs. Belle Fryer, 82, formerly of Merrillan and Black River Falls, died October 15, in San Jose, Calif. She had been in ill health for several months.
Mrs. Fryer was born September 18, 1885, in Merrillan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis B. Johnson. She was graduated from Merrillan High School in 1903. She worked for newspapers in McMinnville and Ashland, Ore., and was employed by the Wisconsin Leader in Merrillan for a number of years, where she served as part of the time as local editor. She was a past matron and a 50-year member of the Merrillan Order of Eastern Star.
She married Ernest J. Fryer on March 14, 1916. They farmed in Garden Valley (Jackson Co.) until 1941, when they moved to Black River Falls and operated a motel and service station. Mr. Fryer died June 18, 1953. For the last few years Mrs. Fryer made her home with her daughter in San Jose.
She is survived by a daughter, Lottie Ruth of San Jose; four nieces and one nephew.
Services were held last Thursday from the Merrillan Methodist Church, the Rev. Calvin Carey officiating. The Order of the Eastern Star rites also was held. Burial was made in Oakwood Cemetery at Merrillan.
