Mr. Cring, a 1970 graduate of Hounsfield Central School, was graduated in June from Cortland State with a bachelor of-science degree in physical education and will be a physical education instructor at Immaculate Heart Central School, He is the New York State Collegiate Track and Field Association Indoor High-Jumping Champion for 1974.
The couple will live at 142 Haley St., after Aug. 31.

She was born on 4.15.1917 in Harrisville, the daughter of Rupert and Ethel LaPlatney Cring. She graduated from Harrisville schools and a hairdressing school in Gouverneur.
She married Jefferson R. Hale on 2/14/1932 in the Methodist Church Parsonage in Norwood. He died on 1/5/1997.
Ruperta owned her own beauty shop in Harrisville before moving to Massena, where she worked as a cashier at Loblaw’s and Grant’s. Ruperta remained active throughout her life until she was turned 91.
She was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Lorraine) Bosjolie and Linda Holmes; and 11 grandchildren. Two grandsons, David Paul Holmes and Jefferson Dewey; and three brothers, Roswell, Lloyd, and Kenneth Cring predeceased her.

He was born on 5/25/1913 in Norwood, a son of Fred and Bessie Minkler Hale.
He married Ruperta E. Cring on 2/14/1937 at the Methodist Episcopal parsonage in Norwood.
He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Harrisville and was an inspector with Aluminum Company of America until his retirement in 1975, after 35 years.
Surviving was his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Lorraine) Bosjolie and Linda Holmes; two sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Alice) King and Irene Moffett; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Two grandsons, David Paul Holmes and Jefferson Dewey, and two sisters, Marjorie Grant and Eleanor Buono, died before him.

Charles P. Cassidy, 77 of RD 1, Harrisville, NY, father of Mrs. Donald E. (Arlene) Townsend of Oswego, died Tuesday night in the Carthage Area Hospital.
Born in Harrisville, he was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Remington Cassidy. He was a lifelong resident of Harrisville. He was married to Leola Cring. He was a member of St. Francis Church and a 30 year member of the Adirondack Grange in Harrisville. He had been a self-employed truck driver and had worked for the town of Diana Highway Department for 28 years until his retirement in 1968.
Surviving in addition to his wife and Mrs. Townsend are one son, Thomas at home and another daughter, Mrs. Len (Mary Lou) LeBlanc of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; five grandchildren, Donald J. and Douglas J. Townsend, both of Oswego and Barbara, Janine and Jane LeBlanc all of Nova Scotia and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Friday in Harrisville for Merwin Charles Cassidy, 24, brother of Mrs. Donald (Arlene) Townsend, 150 F. Albany St., who was killed Tuesday night along with a companion when their car left a rural road near West Carthage and overturned.
Rites were held at 2 p.m. in the First Methodist Church, Harrisville, with the Rev. Lawrence Heatherington, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Harrisville cemetery, with military honors.
Besides his sister in Oswego, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cassidy; one other sister, Miss Mary Lou Cassidy at home; a brother, Thomas with the Navy at Charleston, S. C. and his maternal grandparents.
He was born in the town of Diana, Dec. 17, 1937, a son of Charles and Leola Cring Cassidy. He attended Harrisville Central school and obtained his equivalency certificate while a member of the army. He joined the army reserves in 1956 and went on active duty in Oct 1959. He was separated Sept. 28, 1962.

Doris L. Lewis, 86, Constantia, formerly of Harrisville, died Tuesday at her home.
Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker.
Born April 6, 1918, in Harrisville, daughter of Arthur and Edda Weeks Cring, she graduated from Harrisville High School and worked at the former Community Hospital in Carthage for five years.
She married John A. Lewis on July 27, 1946, in the parsonage of Harrisville Methodist Church with the Rev. Arthur E.B. Blundon officiating. The couple had lived in Constantia since 1959. Mr. Lewis died in 1982.
She was a member of Constantia United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Victor and Jennifer, Constantia; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Ronald Halstead, Penfield; two brothers, Leland Cring, Lake Worth, Fla., and Adelbert Cring, Greensville, S.C.; four sisters, Marion Bretsch, Watertown, Rosalie Bassette, Harrisville, Lulabelle Green, Watertown, and Betty Lou Mullen, Florida, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Traub Funeral Home, Central Square. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Constantia Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to Hospice of Central New York.

He was born on 4/7/1918 in Norfolk, son of Clifford and Nina Wolfe McDonald. He attended Norfolk schools and was a 1937 graduate of Harrisville Central School.
He married Serena Copland on Oct. 10, 1940 in the Presbyterian Manse in Canton.
He was employed as an electrical foreman at Reynolds Metals Co. in Massena, retiring in 1981. He was In the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and canoeist.
Surviving was his wife; a daughter, Diane Cinquina; a sister, Mrs. Herbert (Edna) Anslow; and a brother, Francis W. McDonald.
A brother, Roderick, predeceased him.
Burial was made in Fairview Cemetery in Parishville.

MORRISVILLE - Charolyn F. Cring, 86, of Morrisville, passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 at the Palms Nursing and Rehab Facility in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was born May 20, 1928 in Lenox, N.Y., a daughter of Charles R. and Velma Weigand Field. She was a graduate of Morrisville High School and the Syracuse Business School. On Sept. 25, 1948, Charolyn married Leland Arthur Cring in Morrisville. He predeceased her on Feb. 8, 2007. Charolyn worked at Key Bank in Morrisville, and later in Syracuse until her retirement. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved to read and enjoyed cooking for her family.
Charolyn was a member of the Morrisville Community Church; the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are her children, Merilee and Arlin Bartlett of Bloomingburg, N.Y.; Jeffrey and Christine Cring of Morrisville; Gary Cring of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Thomas Cring of Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Barbara Fields of Utica; her grandchildren, Bethany Haskins; Alisa and Kyle Graves; Dr. Christopher and Margaret Bartlett; Charolyn-Ruth and Michael Adams; great-grandchildren, Dalaney, Quinn, Selah, Hazelle and Roseline; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Alelita Cring, and a brother, Bruce Fields.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 from the Morrisville Community Church, Swamp Road, Morrisville, N.Y. followed by interment in the Morrisville Cemetery.

Edward E. Chartrand, 92, formerly of State Route 812, died Friday morning at the Country Manor Nursing and Rehab Center, Carthage, New York.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 25, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Harrisville with the Rev. Daniel Chapin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, August 24, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Adirondack Funeral Home, Harrisville.
Ed was born July 15, 1923, in Jerden Falls to Edward T. and Eveleen Prittie Chartrand . He attended Croghan Country School and attended Beaver Falls High School. He later earned his GED and was presented an honorary diploma by Beaver River Central School. He joined the US Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1943. Ed married Beatrice Cring on October 25, 1945. She passed away in 1969. He married Myrtle Empey on June 26, 1970. He worked in the woods as a young man. He was employed by J&L Steel Company, Star Lake, from 1953-1967 and for Viking Snowplow in Harrisville from 1967 until his retirement in 1986.
Ed was a woodsman, carpenter and all around handyman. He was well known as a water dowser, loved visiting with friends and family and always had a story to tell. He loved bowling when he was younger, was active in the Grange, and was always there to lend a helping hand. He received the TAUNY award in 2009 and the Solanus award. He gave tours of how Jerden Falls was from 2001-2013.
He is survived by his wife Myrtle, four children Dian and Gene Mealus, Harrisville; Marie and James Roloson, Interlaken; Tim and Lucie, Kensington, CT; Ricky and Julie, Harrisville and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Chartrand, Carthage. He has 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.
He also has three siblings, Kathleen Baker, Harrisville; Glenn Chartrand and Dorothy Baker, both of Croghan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his first wife, he is predeceased by two sons, Dennis in 1972 and Stephen in 2015. He is also predeceased by four siblings, Lucretia Brouty, Harrison Chartrand, Harold Chartrand and Jack Chartrand.

L0WV1LLE — An 11-year old Harrisville boy died at 3 this morning in Carthage Area Hospital of injuries sustained in a two-car collision at 10 Friday night on the Indian River Road, one mile south of Route 3.
Dennis A. Chartrand, son of Edward E. Chartrand, Indian River Road, and the late Beatrice Cring Chartrand, a passenger in a car operated by his brother, Steven D. Chartrand, 19, died of head injuries and contusions to the chest.
Steven Chartrand suffered contusions to the right side Another brother, Ricky Chartrand, suffered broken ribs and contusion to the lungs.
Douglas L Villeneuve, 29, of 88 Wilton St., Gouverneur, driver of the other car, suffered a cut over the right eye, contusions to the right arm and bruises to the right knee.
The Chartrand youths were taken to Carthage Area Hospital by Harrisville ambulance and by private car. Douglas Villeneuve was taken to the Edward John Noble Hospital, Gouverneur, where he was treated and released.
District Attorney Nathaniel B. Merrell named Dr. Richard Neil, Harrisville, coroner's physician.
Sheriff's deputies Herbert Hill, Harrisville, Floyd Martin, Roger Maciejko and C. Ottman investigated.
Sheriff's deputies said the Chartrand vehicle was traveling south, toward Croghan, when it went off the right side of the road. Steven tried to pull back and collided with the car operated by Villeneuve, which was traveling north.
The funeral for Dennis Chartrand will be Monday morning at 10 at St. Francis Solanus Church, Harrisville, Rev. James Ruddy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be tonight and Sunday afternoon and evening at the Sunday Funeral Home, Harrisville. The rosary will be recited Sunday night at 8 at the funeral home.
Besides his father and brothers, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jean (Diane) Mealus, Harrisville, Mrs James (Marie) Roloson, Ithaca; another brother, Timothy, Harrisville; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cring, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Eveleen Chartrand, Harrisville.
Born in Gouverneur on April 16, 1960, he was a sixth grade student at Harrisville Elementary School.

Chester W. Young, 60, Glenfield, RD, died Sunday at his residence of a self-inflicted gunshot would to the head.
Sheriff's Deputy J. D. Bailey, who investigated, said Mr. Young called Floyd Virkler at the funeral home about 7 p.m., requesting a ride to the hospital, as he was not feeling well and no one was home. He asked if he could travel in a car, Mr. Virkler said he could and went to the Young home. Arriving there he could not find Mr. Young and went to the residence of Carl A. Shaver to ask him to help locate the man. The men found Mr. Young seated in a truck parked in his yard. Death was caused by a .22 caliber rifle. District Attorney Nathaniel Merrell was notified and Dr. John Brooks was appointed coroner's physician.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Mrs. Treva Valentine Young; a son, John G., Watertown; a daughter, Mrs. Robert C. (Jane) Allen, Rochester; a brother, Clarence, Rosie; five sisters, Mrs. Ann Miller, Watertown, Mrs. Mary Caleb, Medina, Mrs. James (Mamie) Savage, Watertown, Mrs. Gilbert (Audrey) Huffman, Turin and Mrs. Monica Jeffers of the Madonna home, Watertown.
Mr. Young was born in Deferiet, Jan. 19, 1908, a son of Albert C. and Clara Ackerson Young. He married Treva Valentine in Copenhagen, Aug. 1, 1936.
Mr. Young was employed as a farm manager for Joseph Ellis of Watertown and Dr. James Montgomery of Watertown several years. Later he was employed as a farm manager for the Lewis county home. For the past ten years he had been a building maintenance man for the Lowville Academy and Central school. He submitted his resignation effective Sept 1 due to ill health. He was a member of the New Bremen United Church.

The approaching marriage of Miss Pauline Russell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Russell, to Robert Steele of Staten Island, was announced Saturday. The wedding will take place in the Harrisville Methodist Episcopal church Saturday, September 3. Rev. C. A. Robinson will perform the ceremony. Miss Russell is a graduate of Harrisville High school. She later attended business college in New York and has been employed in New York for the past two years.
