  ST. JOHNSVILLE — Clark B. Sponable, 72, died Sunday in a Utica hospital after several months' illness.
  He was born in the Town of Oppenheim April 17, 1878, son of Nathan and Mary Ellen Dempster Sponable, For many years he operated a farm in Fords Bush.
  Mr. Sponable was a great-grandson of John Sponable, who fought in the Battle of Oriskany, and a great - great - grandson of James Dempster, the first Methodist preacher in this part of the state.
  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Sponable, Johnstown; one son, Elton Sponable. Gloversvllle; two sisters, Mrs. William Schlemer, Albany, and Mrs, Jennie Weaver, St. Johnsvllle; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
  The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lull funeral home here. Rev. Leland Webster, pastor of the Methodist church, will officiate, and burial will be in St. Johnsvllle cemetery.

  Clarence B. Sponable, 72, died Sunday in a Utica hospital as a result of a heart condition. He had been ill several months. He was born in the Town of Oppenheim April 17, 1878, the son of Nathan and Mary Ellen Dempster Sponable. For many years he conducted a farm in the Freysbush area. He was the great grandson of John Sponable, who fought in
the Oriskany, and a great - great - grandson of James Dempster, the first Methodist preacher in this part of the vicinity.
  The survivors are his widow, Mrs. Ida Sponable, Johnstown: one son. Elton Sponable, Gloversville;  three grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. William Scheimer, Albany, and Mrs. Jennie Weaver, St. Johnsville, and several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 at the Luil Funeral home in St. Johnsville. Rev Leland W. Webster of the Methodist church officiated. Burial in St. Johnsville cemetery.

  The box social held at George P. Young's last Wednesday evening was quite well attended, and a neat sum of money was taken in for the benefit of Mrs. Ida Dempster of Lassellsville, who has been ill for some time of typhoid fever.

  Mrs. Ida Sponable, 73, former resident of 521 North Perry Street died at 2 this morning at the Van Lone rest home, where she had resided since June of 1952.
  She was born Aug. 26. 1887 in the Town of Ephratah, daughter of Stephen and Louise Pomeroy Cromer. She had been a Johnstown resident 30 years.
  Her husband. Clark Sponable, died in 1950. She was last employed as a home worker by the Goodhelm Glove Company.
  Mrs. Sponable was a member of the Lassellsville Methodist Church.
  The survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Everett Hollenbeck, and a son, Elton Sponable. both of Johnstown; a sister. Mrs Clarence Mosher, of St. Johnsville, and a brother, Peter Cromer, of St. Johnsville RD, also five grandchildren.

  OLLAND PATENT - Funeral services for Ernest E. Barry, 77, who died Friday at his home, 39 Steuben St, will be held at 2 p. m Tuesday at the Pritchard Koemer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Holland Patent Cemetery.
  Friends may call at the funeral home today from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 p. m.
  Son of the Rev. Adelbert and Fannie Hayes Barry, he was born Nov. 9, 1883 in South Scriba, and was graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1906, and later from the Albany Business College.
  On Sept. 1, 1908, in Holland Patent, he married L. Mae Baker,and they moved to Sennett where he owned and operated a farm for 40 years. He was a deacon of the Sennett Federated Church for 43 years and choir director for 30 years. In 1955, he retired and returned to Holland Patent.
  He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Franklin V. (Beatrice) Downing, Delhi, and Mrs. Lewis B. (Helen) Haigh, Coral Gables, Fla., also four grandchildren.


Lena Mae Baker

  HOLLAND PATENT - Mrs Lena Mae Barry, 94 of 39 Stueben Street, died unexpectedly December 2, 1977, in Delaware County infirmary. She was born June 17, 1863 in East Floyd, the daughter of Philip and Sophia Garard Baker. Graduated from Holand Patent High School in 1901, the North Field Mt. Herman School, Mass., and Oswego State College on September 1, 1908 she married Ernest E. Barry, and moved to Sennett, N. Y. where they operated a farm for 40 years and Mrs. Barry taught school. The couple returned to Holland Patent in 1965. Mr Barry died in 1961.
  She was a member of the Sennett Federated Church.
  Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Helen) Haigh. of Delhi, with whom she has been staying since June A son-in-law Franklin V Downing, of Delhi, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
  The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a m from the the George W Koerner Funeral Home Holland Patent with the Reverend John Preston officiating. Interment in Holland Patent Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home Sunday 7-9.

  HOLLAND PATENT - Mr. and Mrs. Ernest E. Barry celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday when they were entertained at a dinner at the "O-Te-Sa-Ga," Cooperstown, by their two daughters, Mrs. Franklin Downing of Delhi and Mrs. Lewis & Haigh of Coral Gables, Fla. Mr. Barry is a retired farmer.
  Others present at the family party were their son-in-law, Franklin Downing; grandson, Barry Downing and granddaughter, Marcia Downing all of Delhi.
  The former L. Mae Baker of Holland Patent and Ernest E. Barry were married September 1, 1908, in the home of the bride's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip J. Baker at 30 Steuben St. this village, where they are living at the present time. Mr. Barry's father, the late Rev. Adelbert Barry, a former minister of the Holland Patent Baptist Church, officated at the ceremony.
  For the first seven years after their marriage they made their home in Lansing, Mich., then moved to Sennett, N.Y., where they owned and operated a farm for fourty years. Three years ago they came back to Holland Patent to live with Mrs. Barry's sister, Mrs. Charles J. Clark.
  Mrs. Barry, graduate of Northfield Seminary and Oswego Normal School has taught school for 28 years. Mr Barry is a graduate of Albany Business College.
  They received many gifts, cards and a purse of money.

  Mrs. Lena Brodt Hendricks of 208, Main St., Jordan, a retired teacher, died Saturday at her home after a long illness. She was born in Ira 81 years ago, and lived in Auburn before going to Jordan where she had lived for the past 48 years. She was the widow of Clarence J. Hendricks.
  She was a graduate of Auburn High School and Cortland Normal School. She had taught elementary school for 10 years in New York City.
   Mrs. Hendricks was a member of the Jordan Baptist Church, and its Guild. She was also a member of Ida Star Chapter, OES. and the Jordan Study Club. She is survived by a son. Royal L. Hendrick of Jordan; and three granddaughters. Services will be at 10:20 a. m. Tuesday at the B. L. Bush A Sons Funeral Home. Jordan, the Rev. W. Eerie Pettingill. pastor of the Jordan Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Maple grove Cemetery.

 - Obituary (The Citizen-Advertiser, Auburn, NY, Monday, August 31, 1953)
  Clayton A. Brodt, 70, well known Auburn business man, died this morning. Shortly after arriving at his store in Genesee St., he was taken to Memorial Hospital in an ambulance. Hospital attendants reported that Mr. Brodt was dead on arrival.
  Mr. Brodt had been in failing health and at times had been despondent. While in a despondent mood today, he swallowed a poison which proved fatal. Coroner Norman L. Woodford's report said.
  Surviving Mr. Brodt are his wife, Mrs. Grace Brodt; a son, Leonard A. Brodt of Auburn; a sister, Mrs. Clarence J. Hendricks of Jordan; and two grandchildren.
  Mr. Brodt had been active in business and fraternal circles of Auburn for many years. He opened a jewelry store in Genesee St. in 1926. Previous to that time, he was associated with I. S. Liberman and was then in the firm of Swart & Brodt, opticians. He was widely known in the Jewelry business throughout this section of the country.
  For nearly a quarter of a century, Mr. Brodt had been secretary of St. Paul's Lodge 124, F&AM., of which he was master in 1919. Four years ago, the lodge observed the 24th year of his secretaryship.
  Mr. Brodt was a member of David's Chapter 34, RAM; Salem Town Commandery 16, Knights Templar; Damascus Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and the Past Masters Association of the Cayuga - Tompkins District.
  Funeral arrangements, of which the Lester E. Brew Service has charge were incomplete this afternoon.


Augusta E Rase

  Mrs. Augusta E. Brodt, wife of Clayton A Brodt, died late Monday afternoon at the Brodt cottage, Koenig's Point, Owasco Lake after a long illness. For several weeks, Mr. and Mrs Brodt had been living at their summer home, going there for the season from their Auburn residence at 29 East Genesee Street.
  Mrs. Brodt was born in Auburn and had resided here throughout her life She was a member of Salem Town Chapter, 58, Order of the Eastern Star and of Cayuga Court, 44, Order of the Amaranth.
  Besides her husband, Mrs. Brodt is survived by one son, Leonard A. Brodt of Auburn; a sister, Mrs. Albert Raguso of Auburn; and three brothers, Carl Rase of Boston, Mass.; Henry L. Rase of San Antonio, Texas; and Albert Rase of Tampa, Fla.
  Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, at the Langham Funeral Home, 91 East Genesee Street, with Rev. Dr Ralph A. Phllbrook, pastor of St. Luke's Evangelical Church officiating. Burial will be in Soule Cemetery.
  Friends have been invited to call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 today and Wednesday at the funeral home. Salem Town Chapter will eonduct, services at 8 o'clock Wednesday evening.

  At 7 o'clock last evening took place one of the prettiest weddings of the season at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Rase, 28 1/2  Maple street, when their daughter Augusta Erna became the bride of Clayton Alwin Brodt. The bride wore a blue broadcloth traveling Suit and carried bride's roses, She was attended by Miss Rae Hotchkiss, who wore a light blue foulard and carried pink roses. Albert Rase of Syracuse, a brother of the bride, was best man. Rev. Theodore Braun, pastor of St. Lucas's German Evangelical church performed the cermony. After a trip to Chicago and. Detroit, they will be at home to their many friends at 28 Malple street.

 - Wedding Announcement (The Cayuga Chief, Weedsport, NY, Friday, March 26, 1926)
  At a quiet but pretty noon wedding in the home of her mother, Mrs. Louise Crossman, in Brutus Street, Wednesday, Miss Sylvia Crossman, one of the most popular young women in this community, became the bride of Sterling Whitman, son of Mr and Mrs. Charles E. Whitman of Jackson Street. The ceremony was performed by Rev. R. Donald Williamson of New York, formerly pastor of the Baptist Church in this village.
  The ceremony was witnessed by only the immediate members of both families and the couple were unattended. The bride was charming in a beautiful gown of white silk crepe trimmed with lace and wore a veil. She carried a bouquet of bridal roses. Mrs. Donald Williamson, wife of the former pastor, played the wedding march.
  The home was prettily decorated in a color scheme of yellow and white. There was a preponderance of ferns, jonquils and white carnations. Following the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served and then the couple left on a wedding trip. On their return, they will reside in the Crossman farm in the Town of Elbridge.
  Both the bride and groom were born in Weedsport and were graduated from Weedsport High School. The bride attended Wetlesley College for two years and the groom is a graduate of Cornell University. both are members of the Baptist Church and active in church affairs.
