FONDA —Harold Eacker, 67, of 15 Prospect St., Fonda, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Mary's Hospital Saturday morning. He had been in ill health for several years.
Mr. Eacker was bom March 12, 1901 In the Town of Palatine, a son of Jacob and Emma Fox Eacker, attended area schools and had lived in Fonda for the past 25 years. Until his retirement six years ago, he was employed by the Montgomery County Highway Department. Mr. Eacker was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church of East Stone Arabia and F&AM Lodge 433 of Fort Plain.
Surviving are his wife, Bertha Bergeron Eacker whom he married in 1935; one son, Harold Eacker Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Sauve of Flint, Mich.; six sisters, Mrs. George Hinkle, Mrs. Harry Dunckel, Fort Plain RD, Mrs. Robert Miller, Fort Plain, Mrs. Robert Smith, Salt Springville, Mrs. Walter Rury, Cherry Valley and Mrs. Rita Cramer, Utica; also two grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. C. L. Schaertel officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.

The wedding comes as a pleasant surprise to many friends of the couple in this city, as no announcement of the approaching nuptials had been made.

FONDA. Oct. 1 —Miss Evelyn Irma Mach, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Mach, 10 Meadow Street, Johnstown, was married to Harold L. Eacker, son of Mrs C. Allen Bogart of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Harold Eacker, Fonda, in a double ring ceremony performed Saturday at 2 P. M. at the SS. Cyril and Method Presbyterian Church by the Rev. R. A. Ketchledge.
The church was decorated with white gladioli, pompons and palms. Miss Eleanor Borst. Johnstown, soloist, rendered "O Promise Me" and "I Love You Truly."' Mrs. W. S. Craig presided at the organ.
Given in marriage by her father the bride wore an ivory satin gown with an illusion neckline bertha, and long sleeves which tapered to a point at the wrist. The fitted bodice and full skirt extended into a court train. Her French illusion fingertip veil fell from a satin head piece trimmed with pearls and sequins. She carried a sweetheart bouquet of white stephanotis centered with a white orchid.
The maid of honor, Miss Margaret E. Stefka, aunt of the bride, wore an aqua satin and lace fulllength gown, with full skirt gathered at the waist and long lace sleeves tapering to a point at the wrist. Her queen's crown headpiece of aqua lace and tulle was trimmed with pearls and she carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses.
Bridesmaids were Miss Rosemary Eacker, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Patricia Braemer, who wore identical gowns of shrimp satin, with a draped square neckline, and matching elbow length mitts. Both girls carried colonial bouquets of mixed Fall flowers.
The best man was Donald Eacker. Ushers were Joseph and Edward Stefka, uncles of the bride.
The bride's mother wore a sheer black print dress with black velvet accessories and a corsage of yellow and bronze mums.
The mother of the bridegroom wore a navy dress with navy accessories and a corsage of yellow and bronze mums.
Following the ceremony, a reception for 150 guests was held and a buffet luncheon served.
The bride wore a navy blue suit, with powder blue accessories and an orchid corsage for the wedding trip to New York City.
The bride is a graduate of Johnstown High School, class of 1950, and is employed at Herman Hollander, Inc. Gloversville. The bridegroom attended Gloversville High School, and is serving in the U. S. Navy, stationed at Norfolk, Va.

This anthology represents some of the best poems and lyrics of people from nearly every state in the union and Canada. The funeral of Mrs. Vera (Young) Eddy, 50, was held this afternoon at 2 at the home, 107 Prindle avenue, with the Rev. Elmer E. Lewis of the First Methodist Church, Gloversville, officiating.

Clyde Young, 84, of 176 Fifth Avenue, a former local funeral director, died at 5 yesterday afternoon at Littauer Hospital, where he had been a patient for six weeks. He had been in failing health for six months.
Born in Keck Center, Dec. 29, 1889, he was the son of Martin and Nancy Eacker Young.
He was married to the former Margaret Dorn, who died in 1967.
Mr. Young attended Johnstown schools and entered the funeral profession in 1919 in Johnstown. He moved to Gloversville in 1927 and opened his own establishment on Elm Street.
In 1928, Mr. Young entered into partnership with Harry A. Rogers and they purchased the former R.D. Noble Funeral Home at 23 Prospect Avenue. They operated a funeral home at that location until 1948, when, they sold the business to John Bledsoe.
Mr. Young then moved to Gloversville RD, where he followed his hobby of farming, returning to Gloversville 10 years ago.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a past member of the official board and a member of the Brotherhood Class of the church. He was also a member of the Foresters Lodge, the Moose Lodge Contentment Legion, the Adirondack Funeral Directors Association, New York State Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors association.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Eleanore Slater of Gloversville; two grandchildren and one nephew.

GLOVERSVILLE - Mrs. Maggie D. Young, 77, of 176 Fifth avenue died at the Nathan Littauer Hospital yesterday after a short illness.
Born in West Winchester, Canada, she attended school in Johnstown and was a resident of the Johnstown - Gloversville area most of her life. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and its Winning Eight class and the WSCS.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde Young, two daughters, Mrs. Lola Hobbs and Mrs. Eleanore Slater of Gloversville; a brother, John Dorn of Whitesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Lipe and Mrs. Harriet Harvey of Gloversville; two grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at the Kobuskle funeral home at 2 p.m. tomorrow with Rev. Walter Whitney of the First Methodist Church officiating.
The funeral home will be open from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
Burial will be in the Prospect Hill cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Young, Gloversville RD I, who observed their 50th wedding anniversary today, wil) be honored at a dinner party tonight at Treadway Inn. Johnstown.
The party will be given, by Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hobbs and Mrs George Slater. Mrs Hobbs and Mrs Slater are daughters of the couple.
Besides the two daughters, Mr and Mrs. Young have two grandchildren, Stanley and Eleanore Hobbs.
Mr. and Mrs. Young were married Oct, 14, 1909 in the parsonage of the Johnstown Methodist Church by Rev Charles L Hall. The attendants ware the former Miss Edna Brothers, now Mrs. Dorn and George Dorn.
Both are members of the First Methodist Church. Mrs. Young is active in the Winning Eight Class there. Her husband is associated with the Foresters, Elks, and the Gloversville Moose Lodges.
For his hobby, Young cultivates six acres of ground, growing various fruit, vegetables, and flowers. He has been gardening for a hobby since his retirement from business.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Young enjoy excellent health.
Young and the late Harry Rogers, as local funeral directors, purchased the Noble Funeral Home located at 23 Prospect Avenue In 1928. They conducted the business under the name Rogers & Young Funeral Home until their retirement 10 years ago.

Col. F. C. Harding, commanding officer at the Schenectady Army General depot, announced today that 2nd Lt. Milton L. Avery Army Air Force, and 1st Lt George H. Slater. Army, both of Gloversville, are among the 50 area service men returned this week to the United States aboard the U. S. Army transport. Lawrence Victory, with World War II dead from Italy.
Lieutenant Avery, a former Gloversville High school athlete, is the son of Lyman Avery, Wells, and Mrs. H. I. Abdella, of Fla. Lieutenant Slator, son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Slater, Cohoes, is the husband of Mrs Eleanor Young Slater, 23 Prospect avenue.
Lieutenant Slater was attached to the Army Infantry and killed in action Oct. 17. 1944, in the Italian theatre of war. He is a native of Crescent, near Albany, and married the former Eleanor Young. May 5, 1943. Slater was a graduate of Lansingburg High school, the New York Military Academy and Crane Institute of Music. Before enlisting, he was instructor of music in the Morristown public schools.

Alma Russ, widow of the late Clarence J. Russ, died June 13 in Buffalo.
Mr. and Mrs. Russ were married in Fort Plain in 1908.
She was born April 24, 1888 in the Town of Palatine but had lived for the past forty years in Mt. Upton, where she belonged to the United Methodist Church. The Order of Eastern Star recently honored her for fifty years of membership.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Donald Smith (Geraldine), Clarence; a granddaugher, Mrs. Joseph Thomas, Jr. and two greatgranddaughters. She is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Jones, Mrs. William Colburn, Mrs. Kenneth Nelson, Mrs. Willard Green.

Oneonta —Six-year-old John Stephen Harrison, Jr., of South New Berlin RD 2, yesterday became Otsego County's seventh traffic fatality this year when he was struck by a car in East River Road near South New Berlin.
Troopers said he reportedly ran in front of a car being driven by Clarence J. Russ, 76, of Mount Upton.
They quoted Mr. Russ as saying he saw the boy walking on the east shoulder of the road. As he neared the youngster, Mr. Russ was quoted as saying the boy ran from the east to the west shoulder, directly in front of the car.
The boy was believed to have died instantly. A coroner's verdict of accidental death was issued.

Clarence J Russ, 85, Mt Upton, died Jan. 14 at the Sidney Hospital.
He was born Jan. 27, 1889, in the Town of Palatine, the son of Nelson and Sophie Russ and was married to Alma Lasher Dec 9, 1908, in Fort Plain. He had been a resident of Mt. Upton for 40 years.
A retired district milk plant manager, he also served as a deputy sheriff and court crier in Chenango County. He was a member of the Mt. Upton Lions Club, the Borden Hose Company, the United Methodist Church, and Livonia Lodge, F. and A.M. He also was a former Republican committeeman in the Town of Guilford.
Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs Donna (Geraldine) Smith, Clarence; a granddaugher, a great granddaughter, a sister, Mrs. Stepnen Loucks, Gloversville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 16 from the Tamsett Funeral Home, South New Berlin with the Rev. Paul J. Carpenter, pastor of the Mt. Upton United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be made in the spring in the Fort Plain Cemetery. A memorial service was conducted Jan. 14, at the funeral home by Butternut Lodge, F. and A.M.

Floyd W. Jones died Tuesday afternoon at his home in Keck Center. He was a native of the Town of Root born there October 16, 1891, a son of William and Edith Van Alstlne Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of the Canajoharie Reformed Church. He was born in Canajoharie, May 11, 1890, the son of James and Evelyn Parks Colburn.
He resided nearly all his life in the Canajoharie area, and for the past 17 years had resided in Palatine Bridge.
He was employed by the Beech-Nut Packing Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1955.
Colburn is survived by his wife, Mrs. Irene Lasher Colburn, Palatine Bridge; one daughter, Mrs. Bernard Suits. Palatine Bridge, and 5 grandchildren: one brother; Charles Colburn, Albany; one sister, Mrs. John Gebauer, Canajoharie; several nieces and nephews.
Colburn was a member of Stone Arabia Reformed Church.

Carmeta Nelson November 12, 1996
Carmeta L. Nelson, 95, of the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam, died Tuesday after a short illness.
Born Feb. 15, 1901 in Stone Arabia, she was the daughter of Jeremiah Lasher and Cora Gray. At one time, Mrs. Nelson had worked as an inspector at Remington Arms in Ilion. She lived in Ilion most of her life and had lived in Fort Plain before moving to Amsterdam to reside and later moved to the facility in 1994.
Mrs. Nelson was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Ilion and the former Stone Arabia Reformed Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Ilion and a member of the Amaranth in Ilion.
She married Kenneth S. Nelson on Oct. 26, 1921. He died Jan. 12, 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia N. Barger of Charlton; three grandchildren, Jerry Barger of Deer Park, Wash.; Jon Barger of Burnt Hills and James Barger of Fraser, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Courtney Barger, Kenneth Barger and Jeremy Barger all of Fort Plain. She was predeceased by a grandson, Jeffrey N. Barger, on July 24, 1996.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Jeff Thibodeau officiating. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

He was born in the Town of Palatine.

Besides his wife, Susan, he leaves a son, Richard C.; his mother, Mrs. Raymond (Awilda) Lasher; a brother, Edwin Lasher, all of Nellison, and a sister Mrs. George Staley, Canajoharie.
The funeral wil be at 2 Saturday from the Gray Funeral home, Fort Plain. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Miss Jane Oldick, daughter of Mr. and Mra. Harland Oldick, Fort Plain RD l, and Richard C. Lasher, son of Mr. and Mra. Carlton Lasher, Nelliston, were united in marriage at noon today at St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Rev. Richard Reiger performed the double ring ceremony against a background of baskets of assorted colored snapdragons. Traditional organ music was played.
The bride, escorted by her father, wore a floor-length gown of French imported lace over satin. It had a tightly fitted bodice and a boat neckline. The hooped skirt had three tiers of lace in back.
Her imported lace veil extended below the waist line and was attached to a crown of rhinestones and lace. She carried a Colonial bouquet of white pompons centered with white carnations.
Mrs. Betty Steele, Little Falls, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, wearing a full-length strapless gown of aqua Chantilly lace over taffeta with a fitted bodice and a hooped skirt. She wore a short nylon net jacket She had a nylon net picture hat. Her Colonial bouquet was of yellow pompons.
Mrs. Janet Oldick, Fonda, sister-in-law of the bride, and Mrs. Helena Conkllng, Little Falls, were bridesmaids wearing orchid gowns identical to that of the honor attendant. Their similar bouquets were of orchid pompons.
Miss Denies Oldick, Fort Plain RD 1. sister of the bride was bridesmaid wearing a floor-length gown of yellow nylon net and a matching small crown. She carried a Colonial bouquet of white pompons. Charles Oldick, Fort Plain, cousin of the bride, was ring bearer.
Donald Oakley, Nelliston, was best man, Donaid Smith, Nelliston and donald Oldick, Fort Plain, brother of the bride, were ushers.
The mother of the bride chose a spring dress with white accessories. The bridegroom's mother wore a green floral print dress of nylon chiffon and white accessories. Both wore white carnation corsages.
A reception was held at the Old Mill Inn at Palatine Church. the Couple cut a 3-tierd cake at a buffet lunch. About 120 attended from Fort Plain, Litle Falls, Nelliston, Fonda, Cobleskill, Warnerville, Pittsburgh, Pa., Middleburgh, New York City.
For traveling the bride selected a two-piece dress of light orange cotton with white pique trim and white accessories. She had a corsage of white carnations. The couple plans a short wedding trip to Canada. They will be at home Thursday in a house trailor on his farm in Nelliston.
The bride was graduated from Fort Plain High School in 1957 and ie employed at the Allegro Shoe Company, Little Falls. He attended Fort Plain Hichool and served with the Air Force in Texas. He operates a dairy farm with his father.
The bride was entertained by Mrs. Betty Steele, Mrs. Helena Conkling, Mrs. Edna Oldick, Mrs. Sylvia Hancock and her co-workers.
The bridegroom was given a party by Donald Oakley.

Herkimer — Mrs. Alice B. Shults, 74, of 600 Bellevue Ave , Syracuse, former Herkimer resident, died Saturday in her Syracuse home.
She was bom in Greenock, Scotland, a daughter of John and Jessie Finnigan Burns. She was married to Harry Shults in 1913 in Herkimer. A sesident of Syracuse for 20 years, she was a member of the Most Holy Rosary Church and it's Rosary Society.
Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, John, Harry and James, all of Syracuse; a daughter, Mrs. Louis Whipple, Ventura, Calif., and two brothers, Daniel D. and James F. Burns, both of Herkimer.
The funeral will be at 10 Wednesday from the Burns Funeral Home and 10:30 from St. Francis de Sales Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Kenneth S. Ball, 77, of The Meadows, New Hartford, NY., died May 25, 1987, in Faxton Hospital.
He was born in Utica, son of William and Helen Looker Ball. He was educated in local schools and had resided here most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy in W.W. II. He was a guard at Bendix Corp., was employed as a correctional officer by the New York State Prison at Coxsacki, NY, and later worked at Utica Psychiatric Center, retiring several years ago. He married Alice Shults, in 1930, in Utica. He was a member of St. Thomas Church. New Hartford, and the New Hartford American Legion Post #1376.
He leavesbehind a brother, William R. Ball, Utica, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, First Lieutnenat Kenneth J. Ball, U. S. Marine Corps. who was killed in a parachute jump in 1967.
Th efuneral will be Thursday at 9, from the Doyle Funeral Home and at 9:30 in St. Thomas Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Marine Lt Kenneth J. Ball, 25, Utica native, died last night as a result of injuries suffered in a mass parachute jump Thursday during a Marine - Navy training exercise along the coast of Southern California.
Two Marine paratroopers were killed in the drop, made from C-119 transports in a 35-mile wind. The parachutists were pulled off their target area by the winds and dropped on rocky terrain where they were dragged against trees and rocks.
Details of Lt. Ball's fatal injuries were not available.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth S. Ball, flew to California yesterday and arrived about two hours before their son died.
Four other Marines were seriously injured in the drop. Five were hurt while attempting to to come ashore in a landing craft. One Marine died after he fell asleep on top of a tank and suffered carbon monoxide poisoning from an auxilary engine.
The operation Ski Jump exercise involves, 50,000 servicemen, including the First Marine Division, the Third Marine Air Wing and nearly 100 ships of the Pacific Fleet.
Lt. Ball enlisted in the Navy after his graduation from Utica Free Academy in 1948, and entered the Naval Academy in 1950 and was graduated in 1954.
He was born on June 30, 1956, in Utica, he amrried the former Shirley McKelvy of Balboa, Calif. Other survivors include four uncles, and aunt and several cousins. funeral arrangements are incomplete.
