  STONE Arabia - Jacob P. Hinkle, 62, passed away at the Montgomery Sanitarium, yesterday noon at 12:45. He had been ill for some time and was removed to the sanitorium last Tuesday. He was born in Stone Arabia and had spent his entire life there.
  He was a member of the Evangelical church of Stone Arabia, member of the Albright Brotherhood and E. L. C. E. of the church and had been Sunday school superintendent for some 30 years. He was a man who was greatly respected by all who know him.
  He is survived by his wife, Mabel Hinkle; one daughter, Camila V. Hinkle, and one son, Everett, all of Stone Arabia; also several cousins.
  The body was removed to the Walrath a Bushouer funeral home at 51 Fremont street, and later will be taken to his home, where a prayer service will be held Wednesday at 2, followed by services in the Evangelical church at 2:30. Rev. C N. Kindt and Rev. Harlow W. Parsons will officiate. Interment will be made in the Evergreen cemetery.

  STONE ARABIA ... Miss Mabel Eacker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Eacker, and Jacob Hinkle were married last Wednesday in Rochester by the Rev. Mr. Merley. They enjoyed a wedding trip to Buffalo. They will reside in this place, being at home after November 1.

  FORT PLAIN — Grover A. Borden, 89, of 27 Willett St., died yesterday in Johnstown Hospital after a short illness.
  Born in Randall Sept. 13, 1884, he was the son of Allen and Emma Vunk Borden. Mr. Borden had lived in Fort Plain for more than 60 years, and was employed by Stewart and Bergen hardware store for more than 40 years, retiring in 1953. He was a member of the Fort Plain Baptist Church and served for many years as a deacon. He was a 50-year member of the Fort Plain Masonic Lodge.
  Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mable Eaker Hinkle Borden; a step-daughter, Mrs. Francis Abel, Fort Plain; four grandchildren.
  The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Swartz Funeral Home with the Rev. Gilbert Maine, retired, officiating. Burial will be later in the Fort Plain Cemetery.
  Calling hours are after 7 p.m. today and tomorrow afternoon and evening. Masonic services will be today at 8 p.m.

  CANAJOHARIE - Stanley Eaker, 52, was found dead in a bedroom of his home, 15, Erie boulevard, about noon Sunday when members of his family returned from morning services at St. Mark's Lutheran church. He had shot himself with a 20-gage shotgun.
  Dr. William Rathbun was summoned and notified Dr. Michel Kigun of Fonda, who gave a verdict of suicide. Sheriff William Green and William Fish, Montgomery county investigator, made the investigation.
  Mr. Eaker was born in Stone Arabia Feb. 18, 1898, a son of William and Viole Abel Eaker, and spent all his ife there until he moved to Canajoharie nine years ago. He was employed in the peanut butter department of the Beach-Nut Packing Co.
  Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Getman Eaker, a teacher of the Canajoharie central school at Sprakers: two daughters, Mrs. Carl Abeling and Miss Beverly Eaker, all of Canajoharie; on sister, Mrs. Grover Borden of Fort Plain; also several nieces nephews and cousins.
  The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Lenz funeral home with Rev. Paul C. Reisch, pastor of St. Marl's Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.

Anne Marion Ketchen

  Anne K. Eacker passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997.
  She was born March 23, 1913, at Boise, to John A. and Dinah Ketchen and had three brothers, Jack, Aleck and Watson, all deceased. She graduated from Boise High School and attended the Collage of Idaho in Caldwell. She was married to Maynard C. Eacker, now deceased, for 50-plus years.
  She is survived by three children, Russell of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jay of Walla Walla, Wash. and Vicki of Spokane, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Brad, Joel, Lori and Scott (Russell), Anne and Jayne (Jay), Siobhan and Bruce (Vicki); seven great-grandchildren.
  Anne and Maynard had their own business, City Tire Service, in Weiser for many years. They lived in McCall for over 20 years and she worked as office manager/bookkeeper for Shore Lodge. She moved to Spokane, Wash., in 1986.
  Anne was a 60-year member of the PEO Sisterhood. She belonged to the Lady Elks in Weiser for many years and in younger times enjoyed playing golf.
  A good woman, feisty lady, loyal friend, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, she will be missed by all her family and friends.
  Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children of your choice, or Elks Rehabilitation Center in Boise.
  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home South, 421 S. Division St., Spokane. The Rev. Kristi Philip will conduct the service. Interment will bein Spokane Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be today from noon until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

  FORT PLAIN - Mrs. Rose Dunckel, 89, of Fort Plain RD 2, died Thursday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, where she had been a patient for three days.
  Born Feb. 7, 1885 in the Town of Palatine, she was the daughter of Jacob and Emma Fox Eacker.
  She was married to the late Harry C. Dunckel.
  A 25-year member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Stone Arabia, she was also a member of the Ladies Circle of the church and of the Senior Citizens of Fort Plain.
  Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Fred Dean of Canajoharie; two stepsons, Thomas Dunckel of Holland Patent and Claude Dunckel of Ilon; five sisters, Mrs. Walter Rury of Cherry Valley; Mrs. Lewis Cramer of Utica, Mrs. Robert Smith of Saltspringville, Mrs. George Hinkle of Fort Plain RD and Mrs. Robert Miller of Fort Plain; three grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
  A service was held at 2 this afternoon at the Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Jewell of Sharon Springs, officiating. Burial was in the Fort Plain Cemetery.

  FORT PLAIN - Harry C. Dunckel, 73, Wagner st. died July 31, 1954, at his home after a long illness. Born Nov. 5, 1880, in Little Falls, he was a son of the late Alvin and Fannie Golden Sunckel. For about 30 years he operated a farm in the Town of Palatine. For the last five years he resided in Fort Plain, working part time for Beech-Nut Corp., Canajoharie. He was a member of the Evangelical Church, Stone Arabia, and was married to the former Rose Eacker.
  He leaves in addition to his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Fred Dean, Fort Plain RD 1 and four grandchildren.
  The funeral will be at 2 Tuesday from the Gray Funeral Home. The rev. Clarence Ban, Evangelical Church pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

  Mrs Mary E. (Mae) Smith, 94, Cherry Valley RD 1, died Wednesday afternoon at her home. She had been in failing health for several months.
  Born Jan 14, 1887, in the Stone Arabia section of the Town of Palatine, she was the daughter of Jacob and Emma Fox Eacker.
  On Aug. 18, 1914, she married Robert H Smith. He died Jan. 14, 1956.
  A housewife for most of her life, she assisted her husband in the operation of their dairy farm in Salt Springville
  She was a member of the Stone Arabia Reformed Church.
  Surviving are a daughter, Miss Alice A. Smith, with whom she lived; two sons, Robert J Smith, Fort Plain RD 3, and Leland D Smith. St. Johnsville; three sisters, Mrs. Reta Cramer, Utica, Mrs. Robert Miller Sr., Fort Plain, and Mrs Waiter Rury, Cherry Valley, five grandchildren: seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews
  Services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Swartz Funeral Home Inc., Fort Plain, with Rev. S. Bowen Hawkins, pastor of the United Methodist Church of St, Johnsville, and Rev. Robert Vanderlaan, pastor of Fort Plain Reformed Church, officiating. Interment was made in Fort Plain Cemetery.

  FORT PLAIN - Robert H. Smith, 80, died Jan. 14, 1956, at his home in Salt Springville, following a long illness.
  He was born Nov. 10, 1875 in Town of Minden, son of Matthew and Elizabeth Wilsey Smith. A life resident of the Salt Springville section, he was a farmer.
  Mr Smith attended the Salt Springville Methodist Church.
  Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Mary Eckler Smith, Salt Springville, and Leland Smith, St. Johnsville: on daughter, Miss Alice Smith, Salt Springville: four grandchildren and several neices and nephews.
  The funeral will be at 2 today from the Gray Funeral Home, with Rev. Albert P. Strobel, pastor of Fort Plain Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Plain Cemetery in the Spring.

  Ms. Alice Smith passed away peacefully on September 22, 2009, at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home in Ilion, N.Y. Alice recently celebrated her 92nd birthday.
  A lifelong resident of Salt Springville, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Smith.
  She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Leland and a nephew Arlan.
  Alice is survived by a brother, Richard and his wife Doris of Amsterdam; nephews Kenneth and his wife Sharon of Fort Plain, Loren and his wife Joan of Pennsylvania, Melvin of Canajoharie; niece Mary Hollenbeck and her husband Ron of Tennessee; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
  Alice was employed at the Springfield Central School District as secretary until her retirement.
  She will be laid to rest next to her parents in the Fort Plain Cemetery.

  EAST STONE ARABIA —Miss Grace Eacker Smith of Little Falls and Earl Hillabrandt of East Stone Arabia were united in marriage Easter Sunday at 2:30 at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Walter L Rury in Cherry Valley. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. N. Kindt, pastor of the local Evangelical church. The attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Rury. The bride was attired in navy wool crepe trimmed with brown. A wedding dinner was served after the ceremony. Later the young couple left on a wedding trip to Washington, D.C. Upon their return they will reside at the farm residence of the bridegroom. They have many friends who will extend best wishes.   EAST STONE ARABIA - Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hillabrandt of East Stone Arabia recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with an open house in the parlors of Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church.
  The room was decorated with pink, white and silver with white wedding bells. Mr. and Mrs. Hillabrandt cut a four-tiered wedding cake.
  The couple has three children. Marion Smith Hillabrandt and Ronald Hillabrandt, of East Stone Arabia, and Mrs. Beryl Joyce of Melbourne. Fla. They also have two grandchildren. Mrs. Roger Winn of Guam and Larry Hillabrandt, East Stone Arabia.
  The couple received gifts and a purse of money from relatives and friends from Cherry Valley. Salt Springville, St. Johnsville, Fort Plain, Canajoharie, Johnstown, Fonda and the local area.

  At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Eacker of Stone Arabia occurred the marriage of their daughter, Alida, to Walter L. Rury, Wednesday evening, August seventeenth, at 8 o'clock, in the presence of about one hundred and thirty guests. The home was very prettily decorated with flowers and evergreens, and many beautiful presents were, received.
  The bride and groom were attended by Horace Roseboom as best man and Mrs. Grace Smith as bridesmaid, and Miss Gertrude Dockstader as maid of honor. The bride's gown was of brocaded crepe satin with bridal veil caught with orange blossoms. She carried a bridal bouquet of orange blossoms. The bridesmaids gown was of blue georgette crepe and she carried a bed of pink gladioli. The maid of honor was attired in white ivory satin and carried a bed of white gladioli. The flower girls were Evelyn Dumkee and Marion Alice Smith.
  The bride's present to the groom was a gold knife with chain. The bride's gifts to the bridesmaid and maid of honor were bibles. The groom's present to the bride was a platinum brooch set with diamonds, and the groom's present to the best man was a gold knife with chain. The bride is a graduate of Hartwick Seminary and Oneonta State Normal school and very popular in Otsego county as well as in her home town. Mr. Rury is a well-known and popular resident of South Valley. Mr. and Mrs. rury will spend their honeymoon at East Garoga lake, after which they will reside at South Valley. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Royal A. Stanton of Johnstown, N. Y. - Our South Valley Reporter.

  CHERRY VALLEY - Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Rury celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Lakehouse in Richfield Springs. Their children hosted a dinner party for the guests.
  Alida Eacker and Walter Rury were married Aug. 17, 1921, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Eacker, in the Town of Palatine. Rev. Royal A. Stanton of the Dutch Reformed Church performed the ceremony.
  Grace Smith Miller, sister of the bride was matron of honor. The bridesmaid was Gertrude Dockstader, Marion Smith Hillabrandt and Evelyn Dunckle Dean were the flower girls. Horace Roseboom. Westford, was the best man.
  At the time of their marriage, Alida was a teacher in South Valley. Her husband was a farmer in association with hss father, Ira Rury, South Valley.
  Their children include Francis Rury, Cherry Valley; Mrs. Robert (Florence) Reed, Oreana, Ill; and Mrs. Malcolm (Sylvia) Beyce, Lafayette, Calif. The Rurys have ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
  Mrs. Rury was employed at the Otsego County National Bank of Cherry Valley as a bookkeeper and teller. Mr. Rury has been self-employed at Rury's Food Store, Cherry Valley, since 1930.
  Both have been active in community affairs and the United Methodist Church, Cherry Valley.
  They received many cards and gifts. Among the gifts was an American Flag flown over the United States Capitol on July 27, 1881, at the request of Congressman Gary Lee. It was presented by their grandson and his wife, Mr and Mrs. Gregory Rury.

  Mist Sylvia Louis Rury of East Greenbush, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rury, Cherry Valley, was married to Malcolm W. Boyce, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Boyce, also of Cherry Valley, Saturday afternoon at Cherry Valley Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Fulton of Richfield Springs officiated. Miss Carol L. Boyce, sister of the bridegroom, was organist and Norman Stoddard of Sharon Springs sang.
  The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a ballerina length gown of blush pink nylon tulle over taffeta with portrait neckline and a mother-of-pearl and orange blossom halo with shoulder length veil. She carried white stephanotis with miniature pink roses.
  Miss Zenia Curtis of East Greenbush, a college classmate and teaching colleague, was maid of honor. She wore waltz length teal blue nylon chiffon with inserts of light blue and a halo of blue flowers. She carried a crescent of pink camellias. Teena Reed and Susan Reed of West Winfield, nieces of the bride, were flower girls and wore short white nylon dresses over blue with embroidered apron fronts. They wore halos of light blue flowers and carried small hyacinth pink flowers.
  Allen Sinclair of Cherry Valley was best man and Gray Boyce of Cherry Valley, brother of the bridegroom, and Lt. George Haskins, Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, were ushers.
  After a reception at Tryon Inn, Cherry Valley, Mr. Boyce and his bride left for New York City. He will report for work with Standard Oil Company of Texas in San Angelo, Tex., Apr. 18 and Mrs. Boyce will join him in early July.
  The bride is a music teacher in the elementary schools of the East Greenbush Central School system. She is a graduate of the State University Teachers College at Potsdam where she was a member of Agonian sorority and various music organizations.
  Mr. Boyce is a graduate of Colgate University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and received his masters degree from the University of Indiana.

  A service for Adelbert Eacker Sr., 72, who died Thursday afternoon at Chester, Pa., was conducted at 2 yesterday afternoon at the Gray Funeral Home in Fort Plain.

Stone Arabia and St. John's Lutheran Church, Freysbush, officiated.
  Burial was In the Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, Little Falls Rd.
  Mr. Eacker was born Jan. 7, 1896 in the town of Palatine, the son of Jacob and Emma Fox Eacker.
  Survivors include seven sons, Dorr, Herkimer; Elwyn J. Hampton, Va.; Walter C, Nelliston; Orville, Chester, Pa.; Charles C, Fort Plain; Richard, Chester, and Adelbert Eacker Jr., Nelliston.
  Also, two daughters, Mrs. Rose Ann Edwards, Hudson Falls, Mrs. Carol Dillenback, Fort Plain; 29 grandchildren, one great grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins.
  Other survivors include one brother, Harold Eacker, Fonda; six sisters, Mrs. Robert Miller, Mrs. Rose Dunkel, Fort Plain; Mrs. Robert Smith, Mrs. Walter Drury, Cherry Valley; Mrs. Rita Cramer, Utica and Mrs. Florence Hinkle, Fort Plain RD 2.

  FORT PLAIN -- Mrs. Ella Shear, 73, Prospect St., Nelliston, widow of Joel Shear, died Saturday in Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
  She was born in Springfield Center daughter of Lemuel and Ada Casler Beebe. She had resided in Fort Plain for over 30 years.
  She attended the Fort Plain Reform Church.
  She leaves six sons, Dorr, Herkimer; Elwyn Hampton, Va., Walter, Richard and Charles, Fort Plain, and Adelbert Eaker, Nelliston; two daughters, Mrs. Roseann Edwards, Hudson Falls, and Mrs. Carol Dillenbeck, Fort Plain; a brother, Earl Beebe, St. Johnsville; a sister Mrs. Ada Dickinson, Gloversville,  and a stepdaughter, Ursula Quaife, Oakland, Calif.
  The funeral will be at 2 Tuesday from the Swartz Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Fort Plain Cemetery.

  Mr. Dorr A. Eacker, 89, of East Main Street, Nelliston, New York, died late Thursday, May 7, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital, following a brief illness with his wife, Nettie, his two nieces, Sheri Orvis, Bonnie Keller, and his step son Lori Grzella by his side.
  Born on October 4, 1919, in the town of Springfield, N.Y., he was the son of Adelbert Eacker, Sr. and Ella Emma Beebe Eacker. He attended Springfield Center High School.
  Mr. Eacker was employed at the Whedon Gilboa Dam I88 and Thruway. He was a tractor trailer driver and heavy equipment operator. Mr. Eacker was also a member of the Union Engineers Local #106. He was a small private lawn care business owner for 10 years.
  He had been a resident of the Fort Plain area for over 30 years, moving to the area in 1978. Previously Mr. Eacker resided in Little Falls for over 40 years.
  Mr. Eacker served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the Merchant Ship at Atlantic and the USS Barber-Destroyer. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
  He was of Methodist faith.
  Mr. Eacker was a member of the American Legion #554 in Fort Plain, the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275 in Fort Plain, and the Loyal Order of the Moose #853 of Canajoharie. He was a former member of the Canajoharie/Fort Plain Elks Lodge #2621. He at one time was also trustee of the Village Board in Fort Plain.
  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards and baseball.
  On February 14, 1986, he was married to Nettie Lane in Hinesville, N.Y.
  In addition to his wife, Nettie Eacker of Nelliston, N.Y., Mr. Eacker is survived by his step-sons, Lori Grzella of Little Falls, N.Y., Mark Grzella of Little Falls, N.Y.; brothers, Adelbert Eacker, Jr. of Nelliston, N.Y., Charles Clifford Eacker of Schenectady, N.Y., Richard Eacker of Amsterdam, N.Y.; sisters, Carol Dillenbeck of Nelliston, N.Y., Roseann Edwards of South Glens Falls, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Jason Lane of Schenectady, N.Y.; a very special niece, Emily Douglas of Nelliston, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  Mr. Eacker is predeceased by three brothers, Orville L. Eacker, Sr., Elwyn J. Eacker and Walter George Eacker.
  A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Gray-Houghtaling & amp; Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, N.Y., 13339 with his nephew, Orville L. Eacker officiating.
  The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, May 10, 2009 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
  Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery with military honors at graveside.

Snyder Manufacturing Company, Little Falls.
