  Lois C. Hough, 74, of county Route 49, Palermo, died Friday at home. A native of Baldwinsville, she lived in the Palermo-Fulton area most of her life. She served as tax collector 27 years in the town of Palermo. She worked at Nestle Co. and Sealright Co., both in Fulton. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton. She was a member of the Granite Grange in Palermo, the Oswego County Home Bureau, the Oswego County Farm Bureau and Palermo Senior Citizens. Survivors: Her husband of 54 years, William J.; four daughters, Barbara Colf of Montpelier, Vt., Jean Hough of Webster, Janet Crook and Mary Hough, both of Fulton; two sons, Donald and Paul, both of Fulton; a brother, Howard Cook of Syracuse; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services: 9:45 a.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton. Spring burial, St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulton.


William Joseph Hough

  William J. Hough, 79, of Palermo, died Thursday at home surrounded by his family. A native of Syracuse, he lived in the Palermo area all his life. He owned and operated a dairy farm for over 50 years. He was a charter member of Palermo Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Chief and other various offices for many years. He also was a member of the Oswego County Chiefs' Association, New York State Chiefs' Association, Oswego County Fire Advisory Board, and was active as a Palermo VFD Fire Policeman. Mr. Hough also was a member of the Granite Grange, Cooperative Extension, the Farm Bureau, the Republican Committee and was the head tax assessor for the town of Palermo. He was a communicant of the Church of Immaculate Conception, where he was an usher. Survivors: four daughters: Barbara Colf of Montpelier, VT; Jean Hough of Webster; Janet Cronk and Mary Hough of Fulton ; two sons: Donald (Beth) of Fulton and Paul (Susan) of Oswego; 15 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and good friends. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Fulton . Spring burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulton.

  The Immaculate Conception Church was the setting for the marriage on Saturday, Aug. 26, of Miss Barbara L. Hough, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Hough, RD 4, and Dennis W. Coif, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert H. Coif, R.D. 3, Penn Yan.
  The Rev. Robert Hall officiated at the Nuptial Mass. The papal blessing was bestowed. Traditional wedding music was played and sung by Jose Azcue, church organist.
  The bride wore a formal gown of silk organza with Dior sleeves and bodice of Alencon lace. Her detachable train of silk organza was edged with sheer Alencon lace. Her short bouffant veil was of French illusion with a crown of lace petals and seed pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of white sweetheart roses.
  Miss Jean Hough, sister of the bride, was maid of honor She wore a gown of rose silk organza over taffeta and carried a basket of pink carnations.
  Bridesmaids were Miss Linda Greenfield, Syracuse and Miss Judy Coif, sister of the groom. They wore matching gowns of aqua silk organza over taffeta and carried baskets of pink carnations. Junior bridesmaids were Miss Janet Hough and Miss Mary Hough, sisters of the bride. They wore matching gowns of pink silk organza over taffeta and carried baskets of pink carnations.
  Steve Herbert, Penn Yan was best man. Ushers were Ralph Chase, Copenhagen, and John Burns, Seneca Falls.
  A reception was held at the Volney Center Hall. Out of town guests came from Penn Yan, Geneva, Syracuse, Marcellus, Baldwinsville, Oswego and Canada.
  The bride and groom are both graduates of State University College at Oswego. Their home will be in Canastota where they will be teaching in September.

  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J . Hough, R.D. 4, Fulton. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred E. Crook, Sr. of Fair Haven.
  The bride was given in marriage by her father. Maid of honor was Elaine Starzec, Fulton, friend of the couple. Matron of honor was Mrs. Barbara Coif, Montpelier, Vt., sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Cindy Johnson, Phoenix, friend of the couple, Jean Hough, Rochester, and Mary Hough, Fulton, both sisters of the bride.
  Best man was Duane Smith, Fair Haven, friend of the couple. Groomsman was Gary Burleigh, Red Hook, friend of the groom. Ushers were Charles Mclntyre, friend of the couple, John Crook, brother of the groom, James Goman, cousin of the groom, all of Fair Haven, Don Hough and Paul Hough, Fulton, both brothers of the bride.
  Flower girl was Melissa Crook, Fulton, niece of the groom. Ring bearer was Jason Coif, Montpelier, Vt., nephew of the bride.
  Following a reception at the Holy Family School Hall, the couple left for a wedding trip through the New England states.
  The bride is a graduate of J.C. Birdlebough High School, Phoenix. The groom is a graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School, Fulton, and SUNY at Morrisville. Both are employed at the Nestle Company.
  The newlyweds plan to make their home in Fulton.

  ... Fred Coates, who was 33 and had two children when the war broke out, manned the home front. As a tool and die maker, he put his skill to work for the war effort building airplane engines at the Aircooled Motors plant in Liverpool.
  Fred also served as an air raid warden in Baldwinsville, making sure everyone had their lights out when the air raid siren went on. He kept that job, "...until I got bit by a dog."  ....

  Frederick C. "Fred" Coates, 89, of Brooks Place, Baldwinsville, died May 15,1998 at Loretto in Syracuse.
  Mr. Coates was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and had lived in Baldwinsville for 80 years. He retired from General Electric in 1972 and had previously been employed with Morris Machine Works (now Gould Pumps) and Franklin Motors.
  Mr. Coates was a member of the Baldwinsville First Untied Methodist Church and a former member of Seneca River Lodge #160, F&AM.
  His wife Aneita B., died in 1992.
  Surviving are two daughters, Sally E. Kirchner of Naples, Fl. and Suzanne E. Jeffrey of Milpitas, Cal.; a sister, Evelyn Aherin of Syracuse; four brothers, Robert, Donald, and John of Baldwinsville and Sterling "Bill" of Syracuse; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services were Tuesday at Falardeau Funeral Home, Baldwinsville. Burial was in River view Cemetery.

  Garnet M. Drake 64, husband of Laura Parkhurst Drake and a resident of Miner Rd , Lycoming, died in the Oswego Hospital Saturday evening after a short illness.
  Born in Oswego, he was the son of Charles and Pearl Fournier Drake.
  He had been employed as a control operator at the Oswego steam station of the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp., for 32 years before retiring in 1973.
  Mr Drake was a member of Lycoming Methodist Church, Niagara Mohawk 25 Year Club and the U.E.A
  Surviving besides his wife and parents is a son, Charles Drake of Lycoming; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Audrey) Lawton of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mrs. Donald (Sherrie) Rice of Scriba; three sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Jane) Shelter and Mrs. Fred (Eileen) Hanley of Oswego and Mrs. Fred (Anita) Coates of Baldwinsville, two brothers, Donald Drake of Sacremento, Calif., and Ray Drake of Oswego and 15 grandchildren.
  Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the family residence with the Rev. Robert DeWalt and the Rev. Leonard Piepoli officiating. Spring burial will be in North Scriba cemetery.
  Friends may call at the residence at their convenience. Arrangements are by the Dowdle funeral home.

  The wedding of Miss Laura Mae Parkhurst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Parkhurst of Lycoming and Garnet Malcolm Drake son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Drake, 65 East Albany street, took place this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the bride's home. Colors of pink and white decorated the rooms and the ceremony was performed by the Rev. I. A. Brice of Lycoming M. P. church.
  The bride was attended by Miss Anita B. Drake, sister of the groom, and Ernest B. Parkhurst, brother of the bride, was best man.
  The bride was attired in a gown of brown transparent velvet with accessories to match. She carried bronze chrysanthemums.
  Miss Drake wore a costume of blue transparent velvet and carried an arm bouquet of old-fashioned flowers. The wedding march was played by. Kenneth Goodness.
  After a reception which followed the ceremony, a wedding dinner was served to the immediate families. Mr. and Mrs. Drake left for a brief trip to the southern part of the State and upon return will reside at 65 East Albany street.
  The bride has been honored during the past few weeks with showers and dinner parties give by her friends. Mr. Drake is employed at the Oswego Rayon Corporation.

  Mrs. Jane E. Sheffer, 61, wife, of Stanley Sherrer and a resident of 28 Ohio St., died in St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse on Thursday afternoon.
  Born in Oswego she was the daughter of Pearl Fournier Drake and the late Charles F. Drake.
  She had been employed at Columbia Mills and Nestle Company retiring in 1974.
  Mrs. Sheffer was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Fulton Elks Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Lake City Chapter No. 352 Order of Eastern Star.
  Surviving besides her husband and mother are two sons Lawrence Carroll of Oswego and George D. Wilson of Oneida, a daughter Mrs. Gerald (Cynthia) Brown of Oswego, 9 grandchildren, two sisters Mrs. Frederick (Anita) Coates of Baldwinsville and Mrs. Eileen Hanley of Oswego, two brothers Donald Drake of Sacramento, Cal and Raymond Drake of Oswego.
  Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 in Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Smith and Rev. George M. Butler officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
  Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Saturday 7-9 and on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9.
  Family request contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Memorial Fund.
  The Order of Eastern Star will conduct their Memorial Service on Saturday evening at 730 p. m.

  Mrs Frederick Coates of Baldwinsville, sister of the bride, was matron of honor and Frederick Coates was best man.
  The bride was attired in a shocking pink two-piece suit with pink accessories and pink roses corsage. The matron of honor wore an aqua color suit and corsage of yellow roses.
  The bride's mother chose a blue pirnt dress and white roses corsage for her daughter's wedding.
  Following the church ceremony a reception for relatives and friends was held at the bride's home. After a wedding trip, the couple will reside at 28 Ohio St..
  Mr. Sheffer is employed at the Sealright Co., and Mrs. Sheffer is an employe of the Nestle Co., Fulton.

  Frederick T (Fritz) Hanley, 60. of 61 E. Seventh St., died early this morning at the Oswego Hsopital.
  He was the husband of Eileen (Drake) Hanley He was born in Oswego to the late Fred and Agnes King Hanley
  Mr Hanley, an electrician, was employed by Snyder and Mackin for 34 years He was head of the service department. He graduated from Oswego Schools, was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and a former member of Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Hunting and Leatherstocking Club.
  Mr Hanley was also a member of St. Paul's Church He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. William (Diane) Kunzwiler of Oswego; two brothers, Raymond and Edward of Oswego; an aunt, Mrs Katherine Fahnestoek Manwaring of Pulaski; and three grandchildren.
  Services will be held at the family home Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and at St Joseph's Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery.
  Calling hours will be at the family home from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

  The marriage of Miss Doris Eileen Drake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Drake, 66 East Albany street and Frederick Thomas Hanley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Hanley, 31(?) East Seventh street took place Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at St. Paul's rectery. the Rev. Robert M. Reddy officiating.
  The bride was attired in a tailor model of white satin with white accessories. As a head-dress, she wore a halo of baby breath intermingled with ferns. Her flowers were pink roses, baby breath and ferns in shower. Mrs. Jane E. Carroll, sister of the bride, was matron of honor weariing an aquamarine tailored model of taffeta with silver accessories. Her hat was a silver close fitting turban. She carried talisman roses tied with silver.
  Raymond Hanley, was his brother's best man.
  Dinner followed the ceremony for members of the two families with, reception at the bride's home for sixty guests.
  Mr. and Mrs. Hanley will take a trip to Washington, D. C. and New York City, the bride traveling in a smart suit of navy with navy and red accessories. They will be at home upon return at 87 East Seneca street.
  The groom's gift to his bride was a white gold bracelet and the bride's gift to her attendant was a mother of pearl vanity case.
  Many beautiful gifts of linen, china and furniture were presented to the bride and groom and preceding the wedding showers were given the bride by her mother and sister, Mrs. Jane B. Carrol and Miss Marion Pollack.
  Both are graduates of Oswego high school.

  Erma Laura Teelin of Baraboo passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at St. Clare Meadows at the age of 88.
   Erma, the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Ridgeway) Getman, was born on Oct. 14, 1919, in Mohawk, N.Y. She enjoyed art, golf, playing bridge, and was a member of the Palm Desert Palette (Art) Club. Erma had a generous heart and enjoyed taking Thanksgiving meals to fellow church members and working with Meals-on-Wheels. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Baraboo.
  Survivors include four children, Terry (Una) Teelin, Lynda (Ron) Barganz, Tim (Amy) Teelin, and Tracie (Raymond) Mandli; her honorary son, foreign exchange student, Hans (Margrit) Fangel of Denmark; her grandchildren, Kelly Teelin, Laura (Doug) Barager, Maureen (Steven) Teelin, Tom (Joy) Teelin, Christopher (Leanne) Barganz, Jill Barganz, Cari (Kevin) Benson, Janelle (Kevin) Ramsey, Andrea and Jason Krunnfusz, Kyle, Alexis, Kelsey, and Jordan Mandli; great-grandchildren, William and Piper Barager, Katie, Aaron, Wren Benson, Lauren and Dylan Barganz, Amelia, Sydney, Jack and Hayden Ramsey, Maddilyn and Isaah Radix; and many other relatives and friends. Erma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard "Pete" Teelin; and her sister, Vera Mowers.
  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2008, at the FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH in Baraboo with Pastor Wendy Boden officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, July 6, 2008, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the church, and on Monday, also at the church, from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be made to the Sauk County Humane Society, the First Presbyterian Church Family Care Program, or the Baraboo High School Fine Arts Department. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.

  EAST HERKIMER - Rhoda M. Pomeroy, 80, of 202 Zoller Ave., East Herkimer, passed away Friday at Mohawk General Hospital.
  She was born April 13, 1904 in the Town of Warren, the daughter of James F. and Myrtle L Hadcock Hollum. She was educated in Fox Hollow schools and Mohawk schools. She was employed as a punch press operator, retiring several years ago. She was married to Leo Pomeroy. He passed away in 1957.
  She is survived by two sons, Leroy Pomeroy of RD Mohawk, Donald Mosher of RD Mohawk; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Leita of Ilion; two brothers, Norman J. Hollum of RD Mohawk and Robert G. Hollum of RD Mohawk; a sister, Mrs. John (Edna) Mayton of Mohawk; there are four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., with the Rev. Stanley Tanner, officiating. Interment will be in Frey's Bush Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9.

  Ilion - Leo B. Pomeroy, 58, Shoemaker Hill, died Sept. 6, 1957, in Ilion Hospital, following a long illness.
  Mr. Pomeroy was born Aug. 25, 1898, in St Johnsville, son of David and Anna Alter Pomeroy. He came to Ilion in 1916 where in 1924, he married Rhoda Hollum in the Methodist parsonage.
  He moved to his present home in 1927 where he was a dairy farmer. In 1949, he was appointed assessor for the Town of German Flatts. At the time of his death he was chairman of the board.
  Mr. Pomeroy was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Ilion American Legion for 35 yeears, a member of the Highland Flying Club, Frankfort, having been interested in flying and owns his own plane for 10 years. He was a member of the Fort Dayton Grange, Herkimer.
  Besides his wife, Mr. Pomeroy leaves his father of Utica; a daughter, Mrs. William Leitz, a son, LeRoy, both of Cedarville and two grandchildren.
  The funeral will be at 1 Monday from the Graves Funeral Home, Mohawk, with the Rev. Clio E. Talbot, of Bridgewater Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Frey's Bush Cemetery, Fort Plain.
     Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday afternoon and evening.

  Dr. Richard L. Carner
  Graveside services for Dr. Richard L. Carner of Elkton, FL will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens, 511 Old Kings Road S. Flagler Beach FL with Dr. J. Dudley Weaver, Pastor of Memorial Presbyterian Church of St. Augustine officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the U. S. Air Force Honor Guard.
   Dr. Carner passed away on March 15, 2015 in St. Augustine. He was born in Syracuse NY on December 20, 1922 a son of the late Leland T. and Ann Walrath Carner. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the 93rd Troop Carrier Squadron of the Unites State Army Air Force. Dr. Carner served in the European Theater in which his unit was involved in the liberation of Europe participating in the Normandy Campaign, Operation Dragoon (Southern France), Operation Market-Gardens (Holland), the Battle of the Bulge, and Operation Varsity (the invasion of Germany) by dropping supplies, towing gliders and dropping paratroopers of the 101St, 82nd and 17th Airborne Divisions and the 517th PIR. Upon returning from World War II, Dr. Carner attended Syracuse University earning there his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate of Philosophy degrees. Dr. Carner was a Professor at the University of Miami, Coral Gables FL from 1962-1984 teaching in the Department of Education, supervising the reading clinic, and mentoring many doctoral students. He was a past president of the College Reading Association. Dr. Carner was an accomplished musician, an avid photographer, and amateur astronomer.
   Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother Bob. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Dr. Zelda Brooks Carner; his son Dr. Richard M. Carner and his wife Donna of Lancaster PA; his daughters, Dr. Lauren Carner of Putnam Valley NY, Suzanne Carner of Tampa FL, and Anne Becton of Miami FL; four grandchildren, Dan Menon of New York City, Anna Menon of Portland OR, McLean Becton and Kathryn Becton of Miami FL; two sisters, Gloria Miller of Fayetteville NY and Priscilla McCann and her husband John of Manlius NY, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Carner was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church of St. Augustine.

  The bride, who was escorted and given in marriage by her father, wore white tuille and a shoulder length veil. Her bouquet was white asters. Miss Marilyn Sunderman, maid of honor, wore aqua and carried pink asters. Robert W. Carner, the bridegroom's brother, was best man.
  A reception and wedding breakfast for the immediate families was held at the home of the bride's parents and the couple left for a trip through the Adirondaeks. They will reside at 117 Smith street, Manlius.
  Mr. and Mrs. Carner are graduates of Manlius high school. Mr. Corner served two years in the European theatre with the Troop Carrier Command and is now enrolled in the School of Journalism at Syracuse university.

   Robert W. Carner, 70, of Limestone Gardens Apartments, Manlius, died Monday at his home. A native of Syracuse, Mr. Carner resided most of his life in Manlius. He retired in 1984 after 20 years as owner and operator of Mrs. Kleens Laundromat, Cazenovia. Mr. Carner also was employed with the golf course at Green Lakes State Park. After retiring, Mr. Carner was a part-time real estate agent with Dowd Real Estate, Fayetteville. In 1951, he was a member of the first graduating class of LeMoyne College. During World War II, Mr. Carner was a fighter pilot with the Army Air Corps' Flying Tigers in China and received many decorations. After the war, Mr. Carner served as operations officer of the 108th Aircraft Control and Warning Flight Headquarters in Syracuse. He retired as a major with the New York Air National Guard. Mr. Carner was a member of the 14th Air Force Association. Surviving are his wife, Jean F.; a daughter, Pamela B. Edelmann of Syracuse; two sons, David R. of Binghamton and Gary A. of Jamesville; two sisters, Gloria C. Miller and Priscilla M. McCann, both of Manlius; a brother, Dr. Richard L. of Miami; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Newell-Fay Funeral Home, Manlius.   Services for James A. Miller, 42, 203 Elmbrook Dr., Manlius, who died at Upstate Medical Center Monday, March 9 following a heart attack, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12 at Zion Methodist Church, the Rev. Jack Buskey officiating. Spring burial will be at the Manlius Cemetery.
  A self-employed salesman, Mr. Miller had lived in Manlius 30 years. He was a member of Zion Methodist Church, and active in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He was a member of the Community Council and the Fayettevllle Suburban Bowling League, and was a World War II veteran. In his younger days Mr. Miller excelled as an athlete in high school and semi-professional competition.
  Surviving are his wife, Gloria Carner Miller; three sons, James, Keith and Kevin; his mother, Mrs.. Emma Miller of Manllus; a sister, Mrs. LeRoy Baum of Manlius.
