NEWPORT-Harold H. Welch. 73. Town of Norway, died yesterday at his home.
He was born in the Town of Norway and attended local schools. In 1924 he married Arlena McNally in Newport. Mr. Welsh was an employe of W. M. Carroll's stores in Middleville and Newport for 40 years He retired in 1969.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Besides his wife he leaves a son, John, of Newport; a daughter, Mrs. Cletus (Margaret) Mooney, Voorheesville; three brothers; Frank of Utica, Floyd of Newport and Kenneth of Marcy; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Herkel of Kiwimmee, Fla., and Mrs. Ruth Olds of Newport.
Funeral services will be at 2 tomorrow from the Autenrith Funeral Home with burial in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today.

Herkimer Margaret W. "Peg" Mooney, 83, of Herkimer, passed away on September 29, 2012, after a long illness.
Mrs. Mooney was born on November 11, 1928, in Newport, a daughter of the late Harold and Arlene (McNally) Welsh. She graduated from West Canada Valley Central School in 1945 and received an Associate's degree from the Delhi State University. On November 25, 1954, Margaret was united in marriage with Cletus J. Mooney at St. John's Church, Newport. She held various jobs in New York, Connecticut and last in New Jersey, where she retired as a bookkeeper at a local newspaper. Cletus preceded her in death on April 11, 1988. Margaret moved to Herkimer in 1989.
Mrs. Mooney was a member of the Kuyahoora Senior Citizens and St. John's Church. Peg loved travelling, especially her trips to Ireland with Cletus. She later enjoyed bus trips and visiting with her many friends. She was an avid Yankees fan and loved doing crossword puzzles. Her family will miss her quick wit, humor and knowledge of local history.
Survivors include a brother, John "Jack" Welsh, of Newport; four neices and nephews, Michael Welsh, of Interlaken, Ellen (Randy) Barnes, of West Palm, FL, Rosemary Welsh, of Hartwick and John (Jennifer) Welsh, of Amherst; four great-nephews, Nicholas (Kristen) Barnes and Christopher Barnes, of Tampa, FL, and Jonathan and Daniel Welsh, of Amherst; and a great-great-niece, Sophie Ann Barnes. In addition to her husband, Cletus, she was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Ann Welsh; and a niece, Kathleen Welsh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John's Church, Newport on Friday at 9:00 a.m. with Father William A. Gorman, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Newport. Calling hours at the Autenrith Funeral Home, 7479 Main Street, Newport, will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. The family is especially grateful to her caregiver and special friend, Carla Pogonowski. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's restoration fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

HERKIMER - Cletus J. Mooney, 59, of 41-3 Tamaron Dr., Waldwick, NJ, and formerly of Herkimer, died April 11, 1988 at his residence in New Jersey.
Mr. Mooney waj born May 27,1928, in Herkimer, a son of the late James and Edith Atkins Mooney. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War. His marriage to the former Margaret Welsh took place November 25, 1954, at St. John's Church, Newport. Mr. Mooney was employed at McGraw Hill, Inc., New York City, currently serving as Senior Production Editor of the Aviation Week and Space Technology Magazine. He was a member of the Herkimer Knights of Columbus #579, and the Voorheesville Post #1493 American Legion.
Survivors, besides his wife Margaret, include one brother, Rev. J. Terence Mooney, of Miami, Fla.; one sister, Therese A. Mooney, of Chadwicks; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, on Friday at 9 a.m., and from St. John's Church, at 9:30, where a Mass of Christian Burial will concelebrated by the Rev. Leo Potvin, Pastor and the Rev. J. Terence Mooney. Interment, will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Newport. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-9. NEWPORT - Floyd G. Welsh, 73, of RD 1 Newport, retired farmer, died yesterday at the Herkimer Memorial Hospital.
In 1930 he married Elva Murphy in Newport.
At his 40th wedding anniversary in 1970, Mr. Welsh credited his family physician Dr. Pasquaie Ciaglia with saving his life 22 years earlier.
He said, "Doctor, if it weren't for you 22 years ago, you would not be here to help us celebrate our anniversary. You made it all possible and to have you here makes this celebration a real celebration."
Dr. Ciaglia performed one of the first pneumo---tomy operations in the area on Mr. Welsh at the Utica Meemorial Hospital in 1949. At that time Welsh was seriously ill with lung complications.
Mr Welsh was a member of Newport Lodge, F &AM.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Fr-- (Jean) Martinez, of Miami, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. -- Herkel of Kissamee, Fla. and Mrs. Ruth Olds, Newport, and two brothers, Frank Welsh, of New Hartford and Kenneth Welsh of Marcy.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Autentith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Middleville Cemetery.

Pvt. Milo M. Getman has been sent to Camp Swift, Texas, where he has been assigned to 102nd Infantry divison. Pvt. Getman is the husband of Mrs. Iva Herringshaw Getman and was inducted in the Army January 22, 1944 at Camp Swift. He formerly was employed as a woodworker at the Nation Desk Co. Herkimer.

HERKIMER-Sarah (Sally) Wood Folts, age 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Lutheran Home in Clinton.
Daughter of Mary Gunn and John Rogers Wood, she was born in Utica on September 4, 1911. She graduated from Herkimer High School in 1929 and worked at the First National Bank until her marriage to Burr C. Folts on August 29, 1936 in Albany. Following residence in New Jersey, Maryland, and Ohio the couple returned to Herkimer in 1945, living at 422 N. Caroline Street. They moved to East Aurora in 1962. Burr preceded her in death on April 19, 1995. Her brother, John R. Wood Jr. also preceded her in death.
Sally had been a member of the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Herkimer Reformed Church where she served as President of the Women's Association. She was a member of the Myrtle Chapter of the Eastern Star and a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State since 1946.
Survivors include her son John Burr Folts and his wife Cynthia Warrick of Spring Island, SC and Water Mill and her daughter Mary Lynne and her husband Dr. Richard H. Bennett of Skaneateles; a grand-daughter Alexandra Gunn Bennett and her husband Dr. Ronald G. Cantor of Fayetteville and two great grand-daughters, Katharine and Julia.
Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer with a private graveside service to be led by Pastor Mark Andersen of the Herkimer Reformed Church. Donations may be made in her memory to the Herkimer Reformed Church, 102 Church Street, Herkimer, NY 13350. Arrangements were made by the Fenner Funeral Home, 115 Court Street, Herkimer.

HERKIMER - Harry Delos Riggs, 76. of 421 Henry St., a Herkimer resident for 55 years, died Thursday at his home.
He was born in Nelsonville, moved to Mohawk at an early age and attended schools here. He married Mildred A. Becker in 1927 in Herkimer.
Mr. Riggs was employed as a toolmaker by Sperry Rand UNIVAC for over 37 years. He reitred in 1964.
He was a World War I Navy veteran, a life member of Corwley-Barnum American -Legion Post, Mohawk, the 'Herkimer Masonic Lodge and the Disabled American Veterans of Utica. He was a member of the Advisory Board of the Mohawk Homestead, a member of the Seventh Lake Fish and Game Club/Inlet Golf Club, the 25 Year Club at UNIVAC, the Mohican Club of Mohawk and the Herkimer United Methodist Church, where he was president of the Board of Trustees.
Besides his wife, Mr. Riggs is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Jackie) Beehm, Watertown; two brothers, John and Fred Riggs, both of Mohawk.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. tomorrow from the Fenner Funeral Home. Burial will be in
Oak Hill Cemetery.

The ceremony was performed at tbe Rutland Episcopal Church by the rector. The attendants were the bride's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Esme Smith.
The bride is a graduate of Smith College and for the past four years has taught English in the Hicksville, L. I., School. The groom, who was graduated from Boonville High School and Oswego Normal, is manual training teacher in the same school. After September 1 they will reside at Hicksville, where they have retained their positions.
The couple is expected here the latter part of the week to visit the groom's parents.

Elmer A. Normandeau, 64, of 1 Roberts Lane, proprietor of the C.W. Lawrence Printing Co. Inc. and civic leader, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at the Saratoga Hospital. He was taken ill on Saturday. ,
Mr. Normandeau was born in Barre, Vt., Oct. 9, 1904, and he had lived in Saratoga Springs for 16 years.
He was a member and past president of the Saratoga Springs Rotary Club and captain of the bridge team of the local club.
The printing company which Mr. Normandeau headed specialized in bank forms and other types of commercial printing. The plant is located at the Quevic Spring site.
Mr. Normandeau devoted much time to projects in the community. He was one of the persons instrumental in organizing the United Community fund of Saratoga Inc. and served on the original board. He had also been a member of the board of the Senior Citizens Center of
Saratoga Springs, and he was interested in the work of the YMCA.
He was a member of the Saratoga Springs Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. lone Hughes Normandeau, a teacher at the Division Street School; two daughters, Mrs. Walter W. Cambell (Sara), Rochester, and Mrs. Glenn R. Koch (Nancy), Fairport, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Jennifer R. Campbell and Todd D. Koch.

CLINTON — Elliott R. Hughes, 75, of Red Hill Road, Clinton, retired director of elementary education in New Hartford schools, died Wednesday
in Faxton Hospital, Utica.
When Hughes retired in 1972, the name, of the former Highby Road School was changed to Elliott R. Hughes School to pay tribute to the veteral educator.
Robert Bankert, who was a member of the Board of Education when Hughes retired, said last night that Hughes was a "delightful person. Elliott was a great and respected educator. We on the board worked very close with him and solicited his many ideas."
James Van Slyke, a retired New Hartford high school principal, said, "Elliott helped me to grow up in the education field. He was responsible for researching a great deal of history of the area which has been used by many in the community."
Hughes had a collection of more than 100 colonial period antiques and was one of the leading authorities on history of the Mohawk Valley colonist
Hughes was active in the Methodist Church and served as president of the Council of Churches of the Mohawk Valley Area in 1972.
A native of Remsen, Hughes attended high school in Boonville, graduated from, the State Teachers College at Albany and St. Lawrence University. He was named national conference committee chairman in 1909 of the National Association for Student Teachers and is a former president of the state organization.
A veteran of World War II, Hughes commanded the 414th Civil Affairs Military Government Company. He joined the organisation at the time of its activation in 1949, and served as executive officer before taking command.
He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Hughes served as the chairman of The Observer-Dispatch's Operation Sunshine in 1972.
He leaves his wife, the former Elisabeth Wheeler, two sons and two daughters.
