Aaron B. Lasher, 71, of Fort Plain RD 3, a former resident of Fort Johnson, died at 6:20 this morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient two weeks.
Born in Canajoharie March 19, 1892, he was the son of Elmer J. and Margaret Holland Lasher He resided in Fort Johnson for 40 years, moving to the Fort Plain area five years ago. His wife the former Louise Ulrich, died Feb. 11, 1953.
A plumber by occupation, he worker for Treher and Jung for more than 20 years before opening his own business in Fort Johnson. He retired 10 years ago.
Mr. Lasher was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Veddersburg Odd Fellows Lodge, Rebekah Lodge, and the Artisan Masonic Lodge, all of Amsterdam, and the plumbers union of Gloversville
Survivors are one son, Aaron J. Lasher of Heurelton (St. Lawrence County); three daughters, Mrs. Theron Roblee of Elnora (Saratoga County); Mrs. Robert Tucker of Colonie, and Mrs Karl E Bohm of Fort Plain; three sisters, Mrs. Emerson Foster of Clearwater. Fla., Mrs Harold Gray and Mrs. Wilbur Friday, both of Amsterdam six grandchildren; four great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Louise Ulrich, wife of Aaron B. Lasher, died Monday afternoon at 4:10 o'clock at her home in Fort Johnson. Although Mrs. Lasher had been in ill health for some time, her death was unexpected and comes as a shock to her many friends.
She was born in Amsterdam June 7, 1892, the daughter of Christian and Wilhelmina Lembke Ulrich. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she was also a member of the Ladies' Aid Society, Faithful Daughters Class and Missionary Society of the church and took an active part in their work. She was likewise prominent in Rebekah circles, being a member of Locust Rebekah Lodge, 351, of this city, and a past district deputy of Montgomery County. She also was a member of Moyova Zuana, 58, Fort Plain, and the Past Noble Grands' Club of Montgomery and for 37 years was a member of Easter, 122, Ladies' Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen of East Syracuse. While her church and lodge affiliations occupied much of her time, Mrs. Lasher's main interests were her home and family.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Aaron J. Lasher, U. S. Army, stationed at Fort Stoneman, Calif.: three daughters, Mrs. Theron Roblee, Schenectady, Mrs. Robert Tucker, Albany, and Miss Nancy Lasher. Fort Johnson; three brothers, George Ulrich, Schenectady, Alfred and Harold Ulrich, Amsterdam; one. sister,
Mrs. Edward J. Anderson, Scotia; two grandchildren, Kayle and Kenneth Humphries, Albany, and several nieces and nephews.

Miss Doris M. Hanna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hanna, 235 Locust Avenue, and Private Aaron J. Lasher, U. S. Army, son of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron B. Lasher, Fort Johnson R. D. 1, were married Saturday evening at 7 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Paul J. Strenge, pastor.
Church decorations consisted of palms and bouquets of gardenias, white carnations and gladioli. Mrs. John Schlansker, Scotia, gave an organ recital before the ceremony, playing "O Promise Me," DeKoven, "Andantino," Lemore, and "Sweetest Story Ever Told." Stults. Mrs. Fred Miller sang "Because," D'Hardelot, "I Love You Truly," Bond, and "I'll Walk Beside You," Murray.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a colonial style gown of white marquisette and Chantilly lace gathered at the hemline with clusters of orange blossoms. Her veil of imported French illusion was inserted with lace and fell from a tiara of Spring flowers. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses and sweet peas.
Mrs. Mynard J. Jones, Schenectady, was maid of honor for her sister. She was gowned in mint green nylon marquisette combined with Venice lace with a tiara of mint green net flowers and seed pearls and carried a bouquet of pink roses.
Theron J. Roblee, Schenectady, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Robert J. Tucker, Albany, also a brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Mynard J. Jones, Schenectady, brother-in-law of the bride.
The bride's mother wore navy lace over flesh colored taffeta with blue accessories and had a corsage of pink roses. The bridegroom's mother was attired in a navy blue dress with white accessories and wore a corsage of red roses.
Following a reception in the church school rooms, the couple left on a wedding trip to New York City. For going away, the bride wore a deep orchid silk faille dress, white gabardine topper, white and orchid accessories and an orchid corsage.
Mrs. Lasher is a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School and is a senior student nurse at the Amsterdam City Hospital School of Nursing. Private Lasher, who was formerly associated in business with his father, is stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md.
Guests attended the wedding from Schenectady, Albany, Canajoharie and New York City.

Harold C. Gray, 67. died suddenly Monday night at 7 at his home, 41 Oakland Ave.
Mr. Gray was bom in Amsterdam July 7, 1895, a son of Charles and Mary Harnish Gray, and was
employed for more than 20 years in the McCleary division of Mohasco Industries, retiring in 1961. He was a World War I veteran and attended St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
Surviving Mr. Gray are his wife, the former Esther Lasher whom he married June 21, 1922; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Castler, and Miss Margaret Gray, Amsterdam; one sister , Mrs. Margaret Thompson. Amsterdam; two brothers, Edward and Richard Gray, Amsterdam; two grandsons, one uncle, two aunts and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

CLINTON - L. David Hawley, Geology Professor, Emeritus, 70, of 1 Stryker Lane, died Thursday, March 21, 1985.
Luther David Hawley was born September 24, 1914 in Washington, D.C. son of Lola Waugh and Luther Willis Hawley. He was educated in New Rochelle schools, received his B.S. from the University of Vermont, M.S. from Cornell University, and Ph.D. from Columbia University. He married Gertrude Lasher March 4, 1944 in New York City. During World War II Mr. Hawley served for over 4 years in the United States Navy. He was a Lieutenant when he left the service to return to Graduate School in 1946. Mr. Hawley taught geology at Mount Holyoke College for 6 years before assuming the Chairmanship of the Geology Department at Hamilton College in 1954 where he taught for 25 years until his retirement in 1960. For several summers he was affiliated with the Indiana University Field Station near Cardwell, Montana, an area in which he continued to conduct research for nearly 20 years
Mr. Hawley is survived by his wife, Gertrude; a daughter Katharine Taft Hawley of Reno, Nevada; a son Bronson Waugh Hawley of Salt Lake City, Utah; and two sisters Mrs. Paul (Laura) Willard, Fresno, California and Mrs. Daniel (Lola) Taylor, Kensington, Connecticut.
A memorial service will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. from the Hamilton College Chapel. Friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, please consider the L. David Hawley Memorial Fund in care of Hamilton College, Clinton, New York. Arrangements by the Owens Funeral Home, Clinton.

Bronson Hawley, recently received the M.S. degree in geophysics from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. His thesis, "Simultaneous Inversion of Local Earthquake Data for Hypocenters and Laterally Variable Velocity Structure," was the result of research to develop a method of more precisely locating earthquakes and determining changes in the velocity of earthquake waves as they travel through the crust of the earth.
Hawley, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Hawley, 1 Stryker lane, is a 1970 graduate of Clinton Central School and received his B.S. degree in physics from the University of Montana in Missoula. He is now. working as a geophysicist for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Alvin Spencer Fick, 87, of Cornwall Manor, became a cosmic traveler, destination unknown, Monday, September 7, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Born April 23, 1922, in Amsterdam, N.Y., the son of Anna Lampkin Fick and Lauren Spencer Fick, he was graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, worked in the composing room of the Amsterdam Evening Recorder, and in the Washington, D.C. Government Printing Office before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on June 30, 1942. He served for three and a half years as plane captain aboard the U.S.S. Lexington in the South Pacific during WWII. After discharge, he married Alma Catherine Lasher on February 2, 1946, in the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year. Al was accomplished in many areas, most notably an author of short stories published in Best Detective Stories of the year - 1978, A Treasury of New England Short Stories (1935-1975), Aviation Quarterly, and such periodicals as Yankee, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, and the New York State Conservationist, where he served for several years as Circulation Manager and Editor. As owner and operator of the private press, Pinion Press, from 1950, he published several books as well as myriad papers and articles for the National Amateur Press Association and the American Amateur Press Association. He continued his writing and graphic arts career throughout his lifetime, working with his partners to publish A Pride of Palaces, a compilation of the collective glass print photography of Edwin Lincoln Hale for the Lenox Library in Lenox, Mass. During his freelance graphic arts career, he counted as clients such organizations as Maria College in Albany, N.Y., Seton Health Systems in Troy, N.Y., and The Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass. His early work before enlisting was as a linotype operator and in advertising design with the Amsterdam Evening Recorder and later with the Schenectady Gazette. He left the newspapers to work for several years selling Volkswagens in Johnstown, N.Y. He was well known for his integrity and fairness in business as well as his sharp wit and ability to make people laugh. Al loved the outdoors, hiking many miles alone and with friends and or family. He climbed Mt. Washington in New Hampshire with two friends, a trip he talked about for years. He completed much of the required training for his private pilot license and was co-owner of a Cessna 150, which he flew out of the Great Barrington Airport with his daughter and son-in-law. During the last years of his life, he continued to talk and correspond with his many friends. He enjoyed his family around him. He was a proud father and grandfather. Besides his wife, Alma, he leaves his son, Paul Raymond Fick of Deansboro, N.Y., and daughter, Selma Lizabeth Fick Hamilton of Falls Village, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Amy Morris Guachione, Scott Morris, Glenn Fick, Brian Fick, Dale Richard, Joshua Newey, and Lauren Newey; and two great-grandchildren, Brenden and Sera Richard. He delighted in their various accomplishments and loved talking with them. A memorial service will be held at Zerr Chapel on Saturday, September 19, 2009. Private burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, 919 Walnut St., Philadelphia, PA 19107. Arrangements are by Taylor-Ruffner Funeral Home, Inc., 712 Chestnut St., Lebanon.

Fick has completed a course of training at the Lockheed Vega Aircraft Corporation, Burbank, Calif., having been assigned there after two years of sea duty in the Pacific aboard the U. S. S. Lexington, and is now stationed at Whidby lsland, Wash.

Mr. Ewald, son of the late William Ewald and Mrs. Florence McKeever, formerly of Yonkers, received his B.S. and his wife, who received her B.A, in 1947, was awarded her Master's degree. Mr. Ewald, a graduate of Yonkers High School in 1940, attended Rochester for two years before entering the Navy as an optical specialist. A senior design engineer in the Eastman Kodak camera works at Rochester, he completed his education at evening classes. The Ewalds were married in 1944.

David L Fox, 60, of Nelliston, died yesterday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a brief
illness.
Bom at Oneonta, Mr Fox had lived in Nelliston 37 years. He was employed at Beech Nut Inc., Canajoharie Mr. Fox was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Plain.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Alice Lampman Fox; five daughters, Mrs. Allen Wells of Avon, Mrs Richard Belfance and Mrs Stanley Vanauskas, both of Amsterdam, Mrs. Howard Cole of St. Johnsville and Miss Myra Fox of Nelliston.
Two sons, Edward Fox of Nelliston and Richard Fox of St. Johnsville; four brothers, Leslie Fox of Nelliston, Floyd Dodson of Fort Plain RD, Adam and Lipe Klock both of St Johnsville; two sisters, Mrs. Iva Cole of Hollywood, Fla. and Mrs Laura Sutton of Dolgeville. Gowns of other attendants were orchid nylon lace, yellow net over silk and blue net over silk with matching tiaras.
The bride's mother wore a light blue linen suit, white hat and had a corsage of yellow roses. The bridegroom's mother wore a blue suit with matching accessories.
A reception was conducted after the ceremony at the bride's home with 75 attending.
For her going away outfit, the bride chose a navy blue linen suit, white hat and a corsage of roses.
The bride attended the Mayfield Central School. The bridegroom attended Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Amsterdam, and is now a specialist second claas in the Army.
They will make their home at Gloversville RD 2.
Guests were present from Lake Pleasant, Speculator, Amsterdam, Gloversville, Mayfield. Broadalbin and Northville.

Miss Beverly Jean Hirschfeld, daughter of Mr. and Mrs; James Hirschfeld, Amsterdam R.D. 1, became the bride of William Kaminski, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John, Kamlnski, Amsterdam R.D. 4, Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Church of St. John the Baptist. The Rev. Chester J. Klementowicz performed, the ceremony.
Vases of white gladioli and white carnations adorned the altar. Stanley Slusarz was at the organ and played the wedding marches and "Ave Maria."
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white imported French lace and nylon tulle over satin fashioned with a lace bodice, scalloped Sabrina neckline highlighted; with| sequins and a full skirt in redingote effect. A Queen Anne crown held her rhinestone studded veil and she carried white roses centered with white orchids.
Mrs. Marlene, Hirschfeld was the, bride's only attendant. She was gowned in orchid lace over taffeta with matching crown and carried a bouquet of pink roses and mums.
The best man was Louis Hirschfeld; brother of the bride.
The mother or the bride was dressed in beige taffeta, and wore a beige hat and a corsage of red roses. The bridegroom's sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Kaminski, wore a blue print dress, blue hat and a corsage of red roses.
A reception at Robertshaw's Drum followed the ceremony.
The couple went to Lake George for their wedding trip and upon their return will reside at Amsterdam R.D. 4. For going away, the bride wore a lilac face dress, fur stole and a white orchid corsage.
The bride attended the Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Mr. Kamlnski attended Perth Central School and is employed at the Key Finishing Leather Mill in Johnstown.

SARATOGA. Oct. 14 (Special).—It was reported at the Saratoga Hospital today that Stanley Eldert. 17-year-old Schenectady school boy shot in a hunting accident south of Saratoga Lake recently, was out of danger, providing there are no complications. Details of the accident still are lacking, the young man being brought to the hospital by friends who did not explain how he was shot. except to say that it was a hunting accident. The young man received a charge of shot in the head.

Miss Olive Edna Van Auken, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Van Auken, of Johnstown R. D. 1 and Stanley Lasher Eldert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Eldert of Schenectady, were united in marriage yesterday afternoon at 2:30, in St. Mark's Lutheran parsonage by Rev. A. L Dillenbeck, D. D. pastor.
The attendants were Miss Margaret Jane Petraske of Johnstown R. D. 1 and Karl Templeton of Gloversvllle.
The bride and her attendant were both gowned in blue crepe, the former carrying gardenias and the latter pale yellow roses.
The bridegroom is a native of Schenectady and is a radio operator for the United States Navy, stationed at Rockport, Mass.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, attended by only immediate relatives.
The newlyweds left on a wedding trip through the New England states.

Born and educated in Amsterdam, June was the daughter of the late Herbert and Alice Eldert. A homemaker, June was the wife of the late James Waldron and the mother of the late Jacqueline Waldron. Private funeral services for James G. Waldron, 63, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Bond Funeral Home. Mr. Waldron of Suits Road, Princetown, died Friday at St. Clare's Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Schenectady, Mr. Waldron was employed as a heavy equipment operator for The Schenectady County Highway Department 21 years until his retirement five years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. June Eldert Waldron; a daughter, Miss Jacqueline Waldron of Princetown; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Brown and Mrs. Duncan Craig, both of Schenectady; two brothers, Marshall and Burton Waldron Jr., both of Schenectady.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Viewland Cemetery.
