Marriage Notes for Viola May Getman and Guy Joseph Smith

 - Wedding Announcement (The Morning Herlad, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Thursday, August 16, 1914)
Guy J. Smith and Miss Viola Getman, both of this city, were married last evening in the parsonage of St. Mary's church., by Rev. Father Edward M. Brady, but they will not make their home at the farm on the Broadulbin road a couple of miles east of this city, as they had planned, for the farm house was burned down yesterday morning. Mr. Smith had purchased the farm recently, intending to make it his home after his marriage, but the fire upset his plans.
The couple were attended at the ceremony last evening by Joseph Harriman, as best man, and Miss Theresa Smith, sister of the bride as maid of honor. Following the ceremony the party went to the Green farm on the Mayfield road where the wedding breakfast was served. There were about sixty-five guests present and the couple received many beautiful and useful wedding gifts.
When Mr. Smith was interviewed onthe telephone last night, he stated that he has no knowledge of how the fire in his expected home started. "The place was set afire, and burned to the ground; that is all I know," he said. There was no one in the house when the fire started and the first intimation he had that his house was being destroyed came in the form of a telephone call, telling of the fire.
The destruction of Mr. Smith's house by fire is the second such occurance in the same neighborhood in the past few weeks. A short time ago the Moloney house was burned down early in the morning, the occupants escaping in the nick of time. A curious coincidence is that Mr. Maloney had planned to move into his house the day after the fire occurred.

 - Newspaper Article (Schenectady Gazewtte, NY, Friday, April 17, 1914)
GLOVERSVILLE. April 16.—Guy J. Smith and Miss Viola Getman, both of this city, were married here last night, eight hours after, the farm house on the Broadalbin road, where they had planned to make their home, had burned down. They had recently bought the farm and remodeled the house. How the fire started is a mystery. Smith refused to advance any theory beyond saying "The house was set on fire and that's all I know about it."
His farm bouse is the second one to be destroyed within  three weeks, the Maloney farm house being set on fire and destroyed three weeks ago. Mr. Maloney also had planned to move into his house the day alter the fire. As far aa he knows, Smith has no enemies. Neither does he know of any one who might have fired the house through jealousy.
