 - Instructor of English at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1925 to 1928 before going to the MacDuffie School for Girls in Springfield, MA., founded by his parents.

  Attended public school in Springfield and graduated from Technical High School. He received his B.S. from MIT in 1926. He taught mathematics and science at DeWitt Clinton Hebberd School in Newton, MA., from 1925 to 1926.
  While teaching English at MIT from 1925 to 1928, he studied at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. He then served as principle of the MacDuffie School following an appointment in 1935 and taught physics at Northeastern University's Springfield Division night school from 1932 to 1940.
  In 1940 he resigned his principalship to enroll in the Bangor Theological Seminary, receiving his degree in 1944. He was ordained in 1944 at the Ellsworth Congregational Church.
  He served as minister of the Union Congregational Church, Ellsworth Falls from 1940 to 1941, at the First Congreagational Church in Ellsworth from 1941 to 1950, and at the First Congregational Church in Waterville from 1950 to 1961.
  In September of 1962, he accepted the pastorate of the First Church of Belfast, from which he retired as a full-time minister in 1966.
  For the past ten years he has been pastor of the Tremont Larger Parish, in semi-retirement with much of his time devoted to his life-long hobby of boating.
  He also served as Prior of the Brothers of the Way, a Protestant order of devotion offering annual retreats to pastors from many states on Fisherman's Island on the Maine coast, and was given the honorary title of Abbot.

  Complete plans have been made for the wedding of Miss Julia Brown Fincke,  aughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin C. Fincke, and Frederick P. Humphreys, which is to take place in the First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank, N. J., on the afternoon of September 9.
  Miss Fineke has chosen Miss Dorothy Douglas Brown, her cousin, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Brown, as maid of honor. The other bridal attendants will include Miss Mary N. Simmons, Miss Constance Hatch Banks, Miss Edith Smedberg, and Miss Rosalie P. Barclay. Miss Susanne Humphreys, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Landon Humphreys and a niece of the bridegroom, will act as flower girl.
  Talbot W. Chambers will serve as best man for Mr. Humphreys. The ushers will be Charles Reed, Harold M. Wall, George Lisle Forman, Stewart Davis, Landon Humphreys, Edmund S. Twining, Jr. and John M. Sterns 3d.
  The ceremony, which will be followed by a wedding breakfast served at the country home of the bride's parents in Fair Haven. N. J., will be performed at 12:30 o'clock by the Rev. John Muyskens. On the night preceding the wedding, Mr. Humphreys will give a dinner, the guests including the members of the bridal party, at the Rumson Country Club. Later the bride's aunt, Mrs. J. Wright Brown, will give a dance.
  The couple have planned to spend their honeymoon on an extensive motor trip through Canada.

  Of interest to Yonkers society is the wedding yesterday of Miss Harriet Coleman Roberts, daughter of Mrs. Charlotte Glover Roberts, of Fairfield, Conn., and the late Lewis Roberts of this city. Miss Roberts became the bride of John Meigs Fincke, son of Mrs. William Mann Fincke of Weston, Conn., and the late Mr. Fincke. The wedding took place at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Delmar S. Markle, rector officiating. A small reception at the home of the bride's auntm Mrs. John LeRoy glover, followed.
  The bride was given In marriage by her brother, Lewis Roberts. Miss Roxanne Yale Hubbard was her only attendant. William I. Fearing, a classmate of Mr. Fincke's at Avon, acted as best man. The ushers were Waring Roberts, brother of the bride, and Benjamtn, William Mann, and Frank Hamlin Fincke, brothers of the bridegroom.
  After a motor trip through the South, the couple will live on the Bronsom Griscom estate In Greenfield Hill.
  Mrs. Fincke, formerly of North Broadway, Yonkers, is the niece of Mrs. Alexander E. Hunt of 205 Glenwood Avenue, and a granddaughter of the late Mrs. Grace Waring Roberts, also of Yonkers. She attended St. Mary's School in Peeksklll. Mr. Fincke was graduated from Avon School, Avon, Conn., and attended Yale University.

  ONE of the important weddings of next week will be that of Miss Mary Deshon Hand, daughter of Judge Learned Hand of' the United States Circuit Court and Mrs. Hand of 142 East Sixty-fifth Street, and Mr. John Dwight Winston Churchill, son of Mr. Winston Churchill, the well-known author, and Mrs. Churchill of -- West Fifty-first Street and Corinth, N. H.
  The ceremony will be performed Saturday afternoon, June 14, at 4 o'clock in Trinity Episcopal Church, Cornish, and will be followed by a reception at the country home of the brlcie's parents. The Rev. Mr. Wilson, the rector, will officiate.
  The bride's two sisters, the Misses Frances L., and Constance Hand will be the only bridal attendants, and Mr. Thomas S. La Farge of this city will be the best man. The young couple will live in this city when they return from their honeymoon.
  Miss Hand attended the Brearley School and was graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1927. She is a descendant of John Hand, who settled at Southampton, L.I., In 1664, and whose great-granddaughter, Phebe Hand, was married on February 7, 1787, to Cornelius Vanderbllt of Staten Island and was the mother of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt.
  Mr. Churchill attended St. Marks' School at Southboro, Mass., and was graduated from Harvard In 1924. He is a member of the St. Botolph [?] Club of Boston and the Harvard Club of New York. He has a younger brother, Mr. Creighton Churchill, who was a student last year at Groton School.

  The marriage of Mrs. Mary Hand Churchill, daughter of Judge and Mrs. Learned Hand of 142 East 65th street, to Norris Darrell of 1160 Park avenue, took place yesterday in the chapel of Christ Church, Methodist, 60th and Park avenue. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr Ralph W. Sockman in the presence of members of the immediate families.
  Mrs. Churchill was graduated from the Brearley School and Bryn Mawr College. Her marriage to John D. W. Churchill, son of Winston Churchill, the American author, was terminated by divorce in 1936.
  The bride, whose father is a justice of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals, is descended from John Hand who settled in Southampton, L. I., in 1664 Phebe Hand, great - granddaughter of John Hand, was married in 1767 to Cornelius Vanderbilt and was the mother of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt.
  Mr. Darrell is a son of the Rev. and Mrs. N. de M. Darrell of Minneapolis, Minn., and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota. He is a partner in the New York law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell. His first wife, Mrs. Doris Clare Williams Darrell, died in 1943.
