  Dr. Walter Fox Smith, son of Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Smith, and Miss Adelaide Sherman, daughter of the late Charles N Sherman and of Mrs. Winfield A. Fox, were married at the First Presbyterian church in this city at 6 Saturday evening, Rev. Dr. Darwin F. Pickard, pastor of the church, performing the ceremony.
  The wedding was on of the most brilliant society affairs of the local sesson, and was attended by a large number of the friends of both bride and bridegroom, as well as members of the immediate families. The church was decorated with palms, lilies,.and southern smliax, emblematic of the spring season. Bunches of lilies tied with broad white tulle ribbon place on the pews of the two main aisles turned the entire auditorium into a mass of color and bloom.
  While the guests were assembling the church was filled with the notes of In the Silent Night, an Irish Tune, arranged by Grainger, Liebstraum, Beethoven's Minuet and Deep River, soflty played on the organ by Miss Ella Shaw Robinson.
  The bridal party entered at the rear, coming down the left aisle toward the alter, where they met the bridegroom and best man and where the ceremony was performed. the Episcopal service being used. Following the ceremony the bridal party left through the right aisle. The Lohengrin march was played as the bridal party entered and the Mendelssohn march as they left. The bride was given away by Winfiedl A. Fox, her step-father. ....

  BARNEVELD - Arthur F. Howard, 74, of Mapledale Acres, formerly of Newport, died yesterday in Faxton Hospital after a short illness.
  He was born in Frankfort.
  For 48 years he was employed by the Borden Company. He started with the company in Frankfort in 1919 and moved to Newport in 1945 where he was plant manager. He later became superintendent, retiring in 1967,
  He married Clara May Joslin in 1927. She died in 1969.
  He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Jean) Hughes of Bay Village, Ohio; two sons, Raymond of Wilton, Conn. and Arthur C. Howard of Barneveld; two sisters, Miss Gertrude Howard of Ilion and Mrs. Robert Hoke of Burlington Flats and two brothers, William and Clarence Howard, both of Florida.
  The funeral will be at 1:30 from the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland.

  ILION - Albert R. "Al" Wollaber, 85, formerly of Elizabethtown Road, Ilion, and at one time Springfield, Vt., passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at the Folts Homes, Herkimer.
   Al was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Mohawk, son of Glenn A. and Hattie (Rathbun) Wollaber. He attended Mohawk schools. On May 29, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy C. Comstock in Mohawk, a blessed and devoted union of almost 64 years. Al was employed by St. Johnsbury Trucking of Bellows Falls, Vt., as a supervisor in the Mechanical Department, retiring in 1988 with 46 years of dedicated service. At one time he worked for M&M Transportation. He was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church. Al enjoyed woodworking and was known as a handyman who could "fix the unfixable."
  Survivors include his beloved wife, Dorothy of Claxton Manor; one daughter, Sharon Gilday and her friend Raulin Amy, both of Fort Plain; one son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Coleen Wollaber of Ilion; two grandchildren, Wade and Hallie Wollaber; his sister-in-law, Irene Schrell of Florida, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Al also leaves his faithful canine companion, "Bucky."
  He was predeceased by one sister, Ellen Staudinger and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Charles Comstock.
  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12, commencing at 2 p.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. James Foster, interim pastor at the Herkimer Reformed Church, officiating.

  ILION - Dorothy C. Wollaber, 92, formerly of Elizabethtown Road, Ilion, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007.
She was born on Dec. 24, 1914, the daughter of Charles and Jennie (Reardon) Comstock and attended Mohawk schools. On May 29, 1941, she was married to Albert R. Wollaber. He died in January 2005. At one time she worked at Remington Rand Co., Ilion. Dorothy was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church, Ilion Hospital Guild and enjoyed sewing, knitting and cooking.
  Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Gilday and her companion Rawlin Amy of Dolgeville; her son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Coleen Wollaber of Ilion; two grandchildren, Wade Wollaber of Schuyler, Hallie Wollaber of Ilion; several nieces, nephews and cousins including special nieces, Denise Williams of Mohawk, Sondra Roemer of New Hartford and Kathleen Capabianco of Florida.
  She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Merton and John Comstock and her sister, Irene Schrell.
  Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Applegate-Day & Enea   Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. Brian Engel, pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church, officiating.
  Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

  Ilion Priscilla M. Bly, 63, of Hoefler Ave in Ilion passed away unexpectedly on Monday February 28, 2011at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Utica.
  Priscilla was born on March 30, 1947 the daughter of the late Blaine and Adelaide (Baylor) Wollaber. She was a graduate of Mohawk and on October 11, 1966 she married Donald Bly. Donald & Priscilla were devoted to one another for their 45 years together. Priscilla recently retired from the Country Manor after over 20 years of dedicated service.
  As a wife, mother and friend Priscilla was truly an angel on Earth. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Her unselfish acts of love, generosity and kindness extended to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Priscilla was an animal lover always taking in "strays", sometimes the end result being they became part of her family. Priscilla was very active and enjoyed many things; her greatest joy was taking care of those she loved.
  Priscilla is survived by her loving husband and soul mate Don; her cherished children and grandchildren, sons Jon and his wife Shelly of Herkimer and their children Fred, Justin, Kristara, Brian and his companion Sue Frezza of Frankfort and Steve and his companion Sarin Cavallo of Ilion; a daughter Erin and her husband Daryl Burke of Litchfield and their children Briana, Jenna and Daniel; grandson Storm Wood, brothers David Wollaber of Cold Brook, Danny Wollaber of Mohawk and Andrew Wollaber of Utica; sisters Annie and her husband Dick Phillips, Kathy and her husband Herb Brown all of Mohawk, Nancy and her husband Robert LaPoint of Ilion, Linda Cockett of Mohawk and Julie Wollaber and her companion James Carr of Baldwinsville, she also leaves a special, loving friend Nina Tselaci and her son Connor of Long Island. Priscilla leaves her beloved animals, Shiloh, Mini Muffin, Little Smoke, Tommy, Beverly & K.C. She was predeceased by two brothers Johnny and Phil Wollaber.
  A memorial celebration of Priscilla's life will be held on Thursday March 3, 2011 at 7 pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion.      RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Leanor Helmer (Toots) Springer, 63, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 17, 1985.
  She was born in East Herkimer, on June 8, 1922, the daughter of Clyde and Delia LaRue Helmer. She was educated in Herkimer Schools. She married Hiram J Skinner on February 26, 1944 in Utica. The Skinners moved to Richfield Springs in 1946 when her husband founded Skinner and Welch. Mrs Skinner was the corporate secretary from 1946-1962. In 1962 the name was changed to Skinner & Damulis. She was a former member ofg the O.E.S.
  Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Roger Skinner of Herkimer; two daughters, Mrs Kennethh (Carol Dingman) of Fort Plain. Mrs Vincent (Varie) Guerra of Henrietta; four brothers. Arthur Helemr of Herkimer, Albert Helmer of Utica, and Wilfred Helmer of Herkimer; five grandaughteres, Melanie, Cynthis, Rebecca, Sarah and Leanor; nieces and nephews. She was prececeased by a brother Clyde.
  Funeral services will be at 11 am on Wednesday, November 20 at the Church of Christ Uniting, Church St. Richfield Springs. Interment Columbia Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs on Tuesday evening 7-9 p m.

  Hiram J. Skinner Ilion High School 1943, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, November 5, 2014 in the Otsego Manor, Cooperstown. He had the support and comfort of his family, Hospice and the Otsego Manor Staff. He was born on August 3, 1923 in Columbia Center, son of the late Hiram J. Sr. and Joanna Fretts Skinner. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Ilion High School. Hiram was an honorably discharged US Air Force veteran of World War II. On February 26, 1944 he was united in marriage with the former Leanor Helmer in Herkimer. Together they shared a devoted union of forty-one years until her passing on November 17, 1985.
  A well-known area car dealer since 1945, Mr. Skinner first owned and operated Skinner & Welch Auto Dealership until 1962. He then started the Skinner & Damulis Ford Dealership in Richfield Springs. He retired in 2014 after sixty-nine years of outstanding service to the Richfield and surrounding areas.
  Hiram had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs. He had a strong sense of community where he was a member of Richfield Springs Lodge #482 Free and Accepted Masons, Richfield Springs Rotary International, the Richfield Springs Zoning Board and the Richfield Springs Veterans Club. In his leisure time he enjoyed Hunting, fishing, playing golf and puttering around the house but most of all was building his log cabin at Big Moose in the Adirondack.
  Mr. Skinner will always be remembered as an honest, upright and caring man. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you always felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
 He is survived by his companion Marie Hameister, a son Roger and his wife Mary Skinner of Whitesboro, two daughters, Carol and her husband the Reverend Kenneth Dingman of Fort Plain, Marie and her husband Vincent Guerra of Herkimer, two sisters, Barbara Baker of Old Forge, Lola Knorr of FL, five granddaughters, Melanie Kimball and her husband Jim, Cynthia Lamanna and her husband Sam, Sarah DeMarse and her husband Mike, Leanor Guerra and June, and Rebecca Root and her husband Chad, four great grandsons, two great granddaughters, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, wife Leanor and loving companion Nancy Meehan he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton and John Skinner, three sisters, Marguerite Hansen, Ada Gajdzis and Lula Welsh. Calling hours for Mr. Skinner will be on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. Mark Ioset, pastor officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the US Air Force will follow in the Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery, town of Columbia.   Miss Carol 'Ann Skinner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram J. Skinner of 16 Park Street, Richfield Springs, became the bride of Kenneth Everett Dingman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Dingman of Van Hornesville on Sunday, June 11. The double ring ceremony was performed at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Walter Crumweida in the Starkville Lutheran Church before an altar banked with pink gladioli, lilacs and ferns. Mrs. Everett Stiles of Van Hornesville played the wedding march and accompanied Mrs. Hopkinson of Starkville who sang, "I Love You Truly."
  Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown of white chiffon and lace with a long lace train. Her shoulder-length veil fell from a crown of white silk petals and she carried a white Bible covered with white roses and ivy.
  Miss Mary Kitts of Richfield Springs was maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Gean Dingman, sister of the groom, Sandra Currie and Carolyn King of Richfield Springs. Junior bridesmaids were Sue Currie and Kathleen Neuschel, also of Richfield Springs, All wore similarly styled floor length gowns of pink with matching veils and carried bouquets of  pink dasies.
  Roger Skinner, brother of the bride, was best man. The ushers were Allan Cook and Russell Cook, cousins of the groom, from Hudson Falls, and Stanley Cook, also a cousin, from Starkville.
  The mother of the bride was gowned in a pale green linen two-piece dress and wore a white daisy corsage.
  The mother of the groom wore a white dress and a yellow daisy corsage.
  A reception for 200 guests was held at the General Herkimer Hotel in Herkimer. The newlyweds will resdde in a mobile home at Gano Corners following a week's honeymoon at Expo 67 in Canada.
  The bride is a 1965 graduate of the Richfield Springs Central School and is a bookkeeper for Skinner and Damulis.
  The groom is a graduate of the Van Hornesville Central School and Adirondack Community College. He will enter Hartwick College, Oneonta, in September as a
senior student in preparation for the Lutheran ministry.
  The bride was honored at three pre-nuptial showers.
  Guests attended the wedding from Rochester, Hudson Falls, Herkimer, Illon and neighboring towns.
