  GOUVERNEUR — Mrs. Rena K. Orford, 83, of 77 Barnes St., widow of Charles Orford, died Wednesday at 5:05 p.m. in the Gouverneur E. J. Noble Hospital, where she had been admitted May 14.
  The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sprague Funeral Home with Rev. George R. Cox, pastor, First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday afternoon and evening.
  Surviving are two sons, Emerson and Stanley, both of Gouverneur; three daughters, Dorothy J. Orford, Gouverneur, Mrs. Max E. (Vivian) Tessmer, Gouverneur R. D. 3, and Mrs. Anthony P. (Sally) Swarthout, Vestal; 16 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Howells, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. Bertha Harsh, Rochester, Lula Belle Tuttle, New York City, and Mrs. Virginia Scott, Gouverneur.
  A son, Vern E. died in 1943, and a daughter, Bethany R., died in 1952.
  Born at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, March 9,1893, daughter of Frederick and Kate Morrison Tuttle, she was graduated from Gouverneur High School and from teacher training class. She taught in Gouverneur area schools for five years.
  She married Charles H. Orford June 29, 1918, in Gouverneur First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. W. F. Skinner officiating. The couple operated a Fowler area farm for several years and moved to the village in 1954. Mr. Orford died in Aug. 23,1949, at age 56.
  Mrs. Orford was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 68 years and was formerly a member of Circle 3 of the church.

  CAMP DRUM (UP)—A soldier and his girl friend were killed by a jeep at this Army reservation early Monday.
  Police identified the dead as Miss Bethany Orford, 24, of RD 4, Hailsboro, St. Lawrence County, and Cpl. Albert Rogers, 24, of Quincy, Mass.
  They were struck as they alighted from an automobile, and died a few hours later in the post hospital.

  Funeral services were held on Apr. 16 for Benjamin f. Howells at the McDougal Mortuary, with Bishop Marvin Beckstrom of the Union Second Ward officiating. Speakers were Phil Alldredge, Joseph Johnson, and Bishop Beckstrom.
  Mr. Howells, Union, died Apr. 13, in a Salt Lake hospital. He was born Mar. 5, 1888, in Salt Lake, to Thomas and Mary Parrish Howells. He married Sylvia Tuttle Apr. 19, 1919 in Brooklyn, N.Y. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Howells graduated form the University of Utah, and was a veteran of World War 1. He served a mission to Switzerland from 1914 to 1916.
  He is survived by his widow; six sons, Benjamin F. Jr., Taylorsville; Thomas F., Vernal; Peter T.., James M. and David J., Samuel J., all of Union; six grandchildren; two brothers, and one sister, Dr. Thomas,H. Howells, Runyon S. Howells and Mrs. Josephine Folland, all of Salt Lake.

  Furman Street Methodist Church was the setting Saturday for the marriage of Miss Virginia A. Tuttle, daughter of Mrs. Ralph O. Frazier of 617 Irving Ave., to William Joseph Melchior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Melchior of 1535 S. State St.
  The Rev. Barber L. Waters performed the 10 a.m. ceremony and a reception followed in the church parlor.
  Maid of honor was Miss Patricia Tuttle, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were the Miss Patricia Maishock, Miss Kay Lamphere, Miss Suzanne Harris, Miss Mary Fisher, of of Chittenango, and Miss Barbara Melchior, sister of the bridegroom.
  Adolph Weisenberg was best man. Ushers were Robert Warden, Martin Manning, Tony and John Zona and Paul Frazer, Lois Marie Frazer and Robert W. Frazer were flower girl and ring pearor, respectively.
  Both the bride and groom are graduates of Central High School.
  The couple will live at 339 Holland St. after a honeymoon at Lake Placid.

  Benjamin W. Tuttle, 87, of 1440 County Route 12, Johnstown Road, died July 6, 1999 at Kinney Nursing Home.
  He was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Gouverneur, a son of Frederick and Kate Morrison Tuttle. He married Doris M. Gray on Jan. 20, 1930, in the United Methodist parsonage with the Rev. Harold Thomas officiating.
  Mr. Tuttle operated a dairy farm on Route 58, town of Macomb, from 1948 to 1974, when he retired to Gouverneur.
  Surviving besides his wife are three sons, a daughter, a brother, two sisters, 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
  A son, Benjamin D. "Junior," died Oct. 31, 1997. Also dying before him were three brothers, Wallace, Harvey and John; five sisters, Bertha Harsch, Rena Orford, Frances Watt, Sylvia Howells and Leone Tuttle; and a grandson.

  The funeral for John N. Tuttle, 63, Gouverneur, RD 5, former farmer and gas station owner who died Thursday June 23 at Gouverneur was Sunday June 26 at 2pm at the Sprague Funeral Home.
  Rev. Stanley E. Brown, pastor United Methodist Church, officiated and a private burial service was Mondat at 10 am in East Riverside Cemetery.
  Mr. Tuttle died on his birthday, Thursday at 10:05 PM in the Gouverneur Edward John Noble Hospital where he had been a patient since June 17.
  Surviving are his wife, two sons, two daughters, five grandchildren, three brothers, Wallace, Syracuse, Benjamin, Gouverneur and Earl (Tom) Massena; four sisters, Mrs. Ben (Sylvia) HOwells, Midvale, Utah, Mrs. Bertha Harsch, Rochester, Miss Lulu Belle Tuttle, New York City and Mrs. Virginia Scott, Gouverneur; nieces and nephews.
  He was born at Gouverneur June 23, 1914, son of Frederick and Kate Morrison Tuttle and after attending Scotch Settlement School he worked on local farms.
  Mr. Tuttle later was employed for ten years by St. Joseph Lead Co., operated farms on the Rock Island and Welch Roads and worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway project for five years.
  He operated a gas station and grocery store at Richville for eight years and in 1976 worked with the Title X federal program for St. Lawrence County.

  She was a daughter of John M. and Dorothy (McRoberts) Tuttle. She attended various programs at St. Lawrence NYSARC but most notably her 20+ years at Potsdam Day Habilitation. She possessed skills that were instrumental to the opening of the Crafts-n-Such store many years ago. She enjoyed cutting material, hand sewing, and choosing fabric for the projects that were sold. She loved all holiday celebrations but her favorite and most important was her birthday.
  She was survived by two brothers, Morris and Tracy; and a sister, Rosemary O’Malley.

  LAKEWOOD - Leonard B. Tuttle, a retired accountant, died Wednesday at Paul Kimball Hospital.
  He was 83. He was born in Gouverneur, N.Y. and lived most of his life in northern New Jersey before mobing here 10 years ago.
  Mr. Tuttle retired in 1962 after 43 years as an accountant for the Western Electric Co.
  He was a member of the Harry B. Thayer Chapter, Telephone Pioneers of America, New York, and the Colgate University chapter of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
  Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Bonin; two daughters, Mrs. Patrich Fisher, Severna, Md., and Miss Gabriel Tuttle, Yeadon, Pa.; a brother Herbert, Rochester, N.Y., three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

  Miss Bessiedel Pilcher, daughter of Mrs. Teresa Pilcher of 464 St. James place, Chichago, Ill., was married at noon Saturday to Leonard b. Tuttle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron J. Tuttle, of Gouvernour, N.Y., in St. Paul's P. E. Church, Flatbush, the Rev. Dr. Wallace J. gardner officiating. The maid of honor was Miss Jean Crombie of Montreal, Canada. The bride was gowned in ivory crepe satis and her tulle veil was held by a coronet of pearls and gardenias. Her bouquet was a shower of white roses and lillies of the valley. Miss Crombie, who was the only attendant for the bride, wore blonde white picture hat to match and cattied tea roses.
  Frank Chaffee of Manhattan was Mr. Tuttle's best man. Ralph Brainard, tenor, sang during the ceremony.
  The bride was a pupil of the Bishop Strachan School, Toronto, Canada, and Mr. Tuttle was educated at Colgate.
  On the return from their wedding tour Mr. and Mrs. Tuttle, after May 15, will be at home at 77 Linden boulevard.

  Miss Patricia Ruth Tuttle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard b. Tuttle of 244 Elmwood Road, Verona, became the on Saturday eveng of Frank Fisher Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Fisher of Bloomfield. The ceremony was performed at the Episcopal Dhurch of the Holy Spirit of Verona by the Rev. Louis P. Nissen, pastor. A reception followed at the Rockaway River County Club.
  The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore an imported shadow organdy gown with an off-the -sholder neckline and long poiinted sleves. The gown had a ruffled train and was finished at the skirt with a matching ruffle, Her vail hung from a headpiece of braided net and seed pearls and she carried an old fashoned bouquet of valley lillies, sewwt peas and sweatheart roses.
  Miss Charlotte Erkander of Cedar Grove acted as maid of honor and Miss Gay Tuttle also of Cedar Grove as flower girl. Miss Erkander's gown was marquisette over ice green with ice green applique on the bertha collar and at the waist. Her picture hat was of green horse-hair with a velvet ribbon and she carried an old fashoned bouquet of snap dregons and talismen roses. The flower girl wore a maize marquisette dress with a maize bonnet and carried an old fashoned bouquet.
  David Fisher of Bloomfield was best man and ushers were David P. Taylor of Bloomfield and Francis Osborne of Albany.
  Mrs. Tuttle chose an aqua dinner dress and wore a coursage of gardenias. The bridegroom's mother wore a dusty pink dinner gown and and orchid.
  The bride was graduated from Bloomfield High School and attended Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Va. Mr. Fisher was graduated from Bloomfied High School and is with the Navy in Little Creek, Va.
  After a wedding trip to the shore the couple will live in Norfolk, Va.

  He was born in the Town of Litchfield, June 10, 1903 son of David and Bertha Jacobson Metzger. He attended Litchfield schools and on October 27, 1934 was married to Irene Sloan in Herkimer. The couple operated a dairy farm near Cedarville for about 27 years. About 20 years ago, they retired from the farm and moved to West Winfleld. They have lived in Bridgewater for the past five years. Mr. Metzger was a member of the Lutheran Church in Herkimer, While living in Litchfield, he served for 25 years as a Councilman on the Litchfield Town Board.
  Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Marian) Nielsen, Marcy, Mrs. Carol Moody, Utica and Mrs. Clifford (Linda) Dunham, Bridgewater; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Burns, Cedarville; also seven grandchildren and one niece.
   Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 from the Wilcox Funeral Home, West Winfleld, with Rev. Walter Hillis officiating Burial will be in Cedarville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home, Friday 2-4 and 7-9.

Church, Cedarville. The Rev. Donald Bell performed the double ring ceremony and Miss Sharon Wollaber was the organist and vocalist.
  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Metzger, West Winfield. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sturdevant Sr., Clockville.
  Mrs. Robert Sturdevant Jr., Clockville, was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Charlotte Burns; Cedarville, and Miss Olivia Waldruff, West Winfield.
  Robert Sturdevant Jr., Clockville, was best man. Ushering were Royal Denet, West Winfield, and Clifford Nielsen, Geneva.
  Having spent their honeymoon in Pennsylvania, the
newlyweds are living at Elmtree Estates, Frankfort.
  The new matron is employed by Freedman Rambler. Her husband is affiliated with the Dairymen's League.
