  Lawrence C. Van Curen
  ONEONTA — Lawrence C. Van Curen, 87, of Oneonta, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Fox Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
  He was born April 1, 1914, in Oneonta, the son of Charles and Mabel (Skillen) Van Curen.
  He married Grace Lord on July 7, 1943, in Louisville, Ky.
  Mr. Van Curen served with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater of operations.
  Mr. Van Curen was a former employee of the D&H Railway. After retirement, he worked at Homer Folks Hospital in Oneonta and then he worked in the maintenance department at the State University College at Oneonta until 1976.
   He was a lifelong area resident and a member of the Oneonta American Legion.
  Mr. Van Curen is survived by his wife at home; a brother and his wife, George and Eleanor Van Curen of Oneonta; a sister, Mrs. Frederick (Dorothy) Beams of Schenevus; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2002, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, at 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta, with the Rev. Mel Farmer officiating.
  Those who wish may call at the funeral home one hour before the funeral service on Friday.
   Burial will be later in Plains Cemetery.
  Contributions may be made to the Blind Work Association, 55 Washington St., Binghamton, NY 13901-3770 or the charity of one's choice.
  Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home of Oneonta.
