Laura Skinner, dcaughter of John and Nancy Miller Skinner, was born Dec. 7, 1847 near Columbia Center. She was educated in the local school and at West Winfield Academy. She was never of robust physical strength, but outlived four brothers. Frank, Damon, Delos and Monroe, and two sisters. About 1915 she and her brother, Monroe, and nephew Will Skinner, moved from the homestead farm to South Columbia. Later the aged brother, Monroe, was laid to rest in the family plot in the Columbia Cemetery where he was of the third generation.
Her paternal and maternal great grandsires, after serving in the Revolution, settled in Columbia and Gersham Skinner passed the remainder of his life on the farm of his choosing and where his life-work ended over a hundred years ago. Laura Skinner, who was the last of her generation, has not lived an envied life, For her many days were dark and dreary, but despite the pain and suffering which she bore heroically, she has always striven for the welfare and happiness of others rather than her own comfort. In the words of Holy Writ, "She hath sone what she could," and doubtless the words "Well Done" greeted her from the other shore. She died Jan. 18 at the county hospital where she had been taken just a week earlier, and funeral services were held at Columbia, Sunday.
She is survived by her nephew, Will Skinner, with whom she resided and who has been untiring in his efforts for her comfort and Happiness.

SUED FOR $30,000 DAMAGES
On Monday afternoon, January 23d, 1893, while Michael S. Agata, an Italian in the employment of H. Ward Leonard & Co., the contractors who are building the electric railroad from Fonda to Gloversville for the Cayadutta Electric Railroad company, was warming dynamite cartridges over a fire near Mills & Co.'s upper flour mill in the village of Fonda, about thirty-eight pounds of dynamite exploded, killing Agata instantly and injuring Andrew Hayner of this city, so that he died at the Amsterdam City hospital a few days later. At the same time Delos Getman, of Fonda received injuries that resulted in the loss of his right eye. His face was also injured so that he will be disfigured for life. Mrs. Susan Hayner, the widow of Andrew Hayner, has brought suit against H. Ward Leonard & Co., the contractors, to recover damages, as administrator of her husband's estate, for his death, which occured, as she alleges, through the negligence of the company in employing incompetent men to handle the dynamite. She places damages at $5,000. Delos Getman, the young man who lost an eye and was otherwise injured by the same explosion, has brought suit against the same company for $25,000 damages. Jere S. Sitterly, of Fonda, is attorney for Mrs. Hayner and Mr. Getman and Westbrook & Borst, of Amsterdam have been retained as counsel.
