Harvey D. Lyman, 88, Bismarck, formerly of Jamestown, passed away on May 25, 2013, at Sanford Health, Bismarck.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 30, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Pastor Odea Sigh, Jr., officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 29, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Harvey Donald was born October 26, 1924, at Williston, ND, the son of Richard (Earl) and Hilma (Stokke) Lyman. He was raised and educated in Stoney Creek Township and Williston, ND. Harvey shared many stories of his days working on the family farm and helping his dad at Creighton Motor Company.
Harvey was enlisted in the Army from May 20, 1943, to February 18, 1946. He spent time in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines working as a surgical technician. He re-enlisted September 5, 1946, to February 12, 1949, and was a part of the Japan occupation. He returned to the United States in 1949. He drove truck and worked construction until 1959. On August 17, 1959, he married Marjorie Hoffman in Pierre, SD. In the spring of 1960, they moved to Bismarck and Harvey began working with Cloverdale Foods as a salesman/truck driver, transferring to Jamestown later that year and continued until his retirement. Harvey enjoyed calling on the cafes and grocery stores on his route and many times found a hot cup of coffee waiting for him.
Harvey was a man of great faith and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jamestown and served as a deacon for many years.
Harvey enjoyed shooting pool, fishing, gardening, auction sales, and tinkering around his garage. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Jamestown.
Harvey's last year was spent at Mapleview Memory Care, whose staff, patients, and families embraced and encouraged Marge and Harvey at Harvey's home away from home.
Harvey is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie; nephew, Bruce (Kathy) Brogger, Williston; nieces, Jean (Billy) Lester, Mesa, AZ, and Kaye (John) Hambleton, El Cajon, CA; his brother-in-law, Robert (Corrine) Hoffman; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard (Earl) and Hilma Lyman; his dear sister, Mae Ellen Brogger; and an infant sister June.

Marjorie L. Lyman, 93, Bismarck, formerly of Jamestown, passed away on June 25, 2018.
Marjorie Lavonne was born February 6, 1925 near McClusky, ND, the daughter of Peter and Annetta (Haas) Hoffman. She was raised and educated near McClusky. At 13 years of age Marjorie began working for area farmers caring for children and helping in the farm kitchens. She moved to California in 1942, returning to Bismarck in 1944 to work at the Bismarck Hospital and the BonBon Café. She then moved to Williston in 1951, working at Corky’s Café and Quality Bakery with her brother, Walter. On August 17, 1959, she married Harvey Lyman in Pierre, SD. In 1960, they moved to Jamestown. Marjorie worked in food service at Jamestown State Hospital for 20 years, especially enjoying the patients that she worked with.
Marjorie loved the Lord and was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jamestown and served as a deaconess for many years.
Marjorie enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines and dolls. She and Harvey spent many weekends fishing, gardening and caring for their lovely home. Her sense of humor was a gift that made her a friend to all who knew her.
Marjorie is survived by her brother, Robert (Corrine) Hoffman, Bismarck; many nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; her parents, Peter and Aneta (Nettie) Hoffman; brothers, Herbert, Walter, and Harvey; sister, Vivian Bauer; an infant brother, Waldemore; and infant sister, Olivia.

SPRINGFIELD — A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Eugene Alliance Church for Herbert E. Rupp of Springfield, who died Nov. 3 of age-related causes. He was 98.
He was born March 26, 1910, in Butterfield, Minn., to Edward and Marie Hubin Rupp. He married Mabel Mae Van Slyke on April 30, 1932, in St. Paul, Minn.
Rupp graduated from St. Paul Bible Institute in 1931. He was an ordained minister who worked as a builder for Arthur Gilbert & Sons and later for Breeden Brothers Home Builders until his retirement. He served as minister of the Mohawk Community Church for two years, in 1968 and 1969, was a part-time pastor for various churches.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Joyce Sorensen of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Wayne of Eugene and Ken of Portland; a sister, Kathy Young of Bear, Del.; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Private burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene. Remembrances to the church or to Cascade Health Solutions Hospice.

George H. Smith, resident of Shevlin, died unexpectedly Saturday night, November 2. He was 78 years old.
Mr. Smith was born November 26, 1884 in Omaha, Nebraska. His parents were Jerry and Amanda Smith. He came to Grand Forks in 1911 and married Sara Smith, May 21, 1913. They lived in Grand Forks until 1919, when they moved to Alida and settled on a farm. In February of 1959, they moved into the village of Shevlin.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: (Esther) Mrs. Henry Peppin, St. Paul; (Frances) Mrs. Henry Rose, Bemidji; (Edna) Mrs. William Morse, Salt Lake City, Utah; Donald, Crookston; Walter, Moorhead; Ralph and Earl, Shevlin; James, Grand Forks; 28 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; one brother, Earl of Burlington, Colorado and one sister, Mrs. Nancy Houghton of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by a son, George, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 6 at the Alida Lutheran Church. The Rev. C. W. Hanson officiated and the burial was in the Alida Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Cease Funeral Home of Bagley.
