ONEIDA CASTLE - Glenn P. Caple, 68, of 88 Seneca Ave., a former executive secretary of the Oneida Chamber of Commerce, and a retired management analyst of the Manpower Branch of the Rome Air Development Center at Griffiss AFB, died Saturday in Syracuse Upstate Medical Center.
He was born in Mohawk and had lived in Oneida Castle for several years. He married Marion Brockmiller in Utica in 1941.
Mr. Caple, a veteran of 22 years of Federal Civil Service, began his career as assistant manager of the War Housing Office. He later transferred to the then Rome Air Service Command as organization and methods examiner. In 1951, Mr. Caple became associated with the development center.
While at Griffiss, Mr. Caple was active in the suggestion program, and received awards for proposals and a sustained superoior performance award. He was assigned at that time to establish a management improvement program.
He was acting vice chairman of the United Funds Appeal, chairman of the Civilian Advisory Council, a member of the Executive Club, coordinator of the Management Improvement Program and was also advisor of the Junior Achievement Program. Mr. Caple retired from Gnffiss in 1963.
Mr. Caple later served for several years as executive secretary of the Oneida Chamber of Commerce, Community Chest and area industries. He served with the Army during World War I.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, the Vienna Lodge F&AM. and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Utica Ziyara Shrine. He was also a member of the Oneida Castle Brotherhood, Volunteer Fire Department, Oneida Post 160 of the American Legion, and a past president of the Fish and Game Club.
Besides his widow, he leaves a son, Richard, of Oneida Castle, and a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Melissa) Crumb of Waterville.
The funeral will be at 10 Wednesday from St. John's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.

The Waterville Methodist Church was the setting for the 7:30 nuptials on the evening of Nov. 23, uniting Miss Melissa Jane Caple and Sgt. Roger William Crumb, USAF. The Rev. Carl G. Holton officiated at the double ring candlelight ceremony with Mrs. David Fanning as the orgnaist.
The bride given in marriage by her father, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn P. Caple, Oneida Castle. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence W. Crumb, Hubbardsville.
The couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Caple, the bride's brother and the bridegroom's sister. Lawrence D. Crumb and Dale W. Crumb ushered for their brother.
A reception was held in the church pariors, after which thecouple left on a trip through Western New York. the will make their home at 1207 Brinckerhoff Ave.
The bride attended Mohawk Valley Community College and is employed by the sales office of the State Farm Insurance Co., New Hartford. Her husband is in his seventh
year with the Air Force, having served one year in Viet Nam. He is now stationed with the 49th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Griffiss Air Base.

Herkimer — Mrs. Flora Caple Irwin, 56, a former resident of this area died July 14, 1960 in Tucson, Ariz., after a, long illness.
She was born Oct. 31, 1903, daughter of Edmund and Jessie Phillips Caple. In 1922 in Syracuse she was married to Fred Irwin. For a number of years they lived in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Mrs. Irwin was a member of the Kalamazoo Methodist Church, the Ladies of the Moose and the Rebekahs in that city.
She leaves her husband; two daughters, Miss Jessie Belle Irwin, Niles, Mich., and Mrs. Ward Conrad, Vernon Center; two sons, Frederick, Tucson, and Arthur, Schoolcraft, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Johnston, Lyons Falls; a brother, Glen Caple, Oneida Castle; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Fred H. Irwin, 74, of 320 Berkley Circle, Liverpool, died yesterday at St. Joseph's Hospital.
A native of Oakmont, Pa., he had lived in Liverpool the past two years, moving here from Clearwater, Fla.
Mr. Irwin was a retired real estate man.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ella Irwin; two sons, Fred E. of Tuscon, Ariz, and Arthur C. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Cronkwright and Mrs. Belle Vaught, both of Syracuse; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren;

Glenn E. Thurber of Penhurst Ave., recently retired from the American Railway Express Agency after 48 years as a railway clerk, was the recipient of a service placque from the company. The presentation was made by C. B. Dooley, district superintendent.
Mr. Thurber, was born Jan. 26, 1884 at Colesville, and first entered the service of the U.S. Expresss Company at Binghamton on March 7, 1906. He resigned on January 26, 1814 and re-entered the service of the Adams Express Company, also at Binghamton, on November 5, 1916, as a train service employe. He operated over various routes in train service for the Adams Express Company until July 1, 1918 when all the old line companies such as the American, the Adams and WellsFargo were consolidated during World War 1 upon the request of the government in order to function more efficiently with respect to the transportation of defense materials and military personnel.
From July 1, 1918 he covered various routes in train service on the DL&W Railroad, the New York Central Railroad, the old Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburg Railroad, spending the last 24 years of his service in Railway Express train service on the New York Central Railroad principally between Buffalo and Albany.
Mr. Thurber is a member of the Odd Fellows, Orchard Park Lodge 187. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, home gardening and woodworking.

William H. Vedder, a village assessor in Herkimer for many years, died today in his home, 123 N. Bellinger St., after a long illness.
Born in Herkimer, a son of Ira and Anna Horrocks Vedder, he married Mildred F. Volk on Nov. 21, 1961 A life resident here, he had owned and operated a gas station and garage on the site of the present Victory store. He had been village assessor since the garage closed.
Mr. Vedder was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Royal Arcanum, local Masonic Lodge, member, trustee and past exalted ruler of the Herkimer Elks.
His wife survives; a brother, Stanley, Florida, and two cousins.
Rev. Rex G. Van Court, Baptist pastor, will conduct services at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Fenner Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

MOHAWK — Mrs Agnes Kaples, 68, formerly of 12 Otsego St., died Saturday in the Blossom Nursing Home, Rochester, where she had been a patient for the last four years.
She was born March 1, 1904 in Mohawk, the daughter of James and Edith Caple Boss. She wasmarried to Raymond Kaples in Mohawk. Mr. Kaples died several years ago. Mrs. Kaples had lived in Mohawk many years before moving to Rochester.
She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Edith Quigley, Rochester, and one son Raymond Kaples, San Antonio. Tex.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 this afternoon at the Burns-Richer Funeral Home, Herkimer. Intement was in Mohawk Cemetery.

Mohawk, Oct. 26.—Floyd Kaples, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Kaples of Mohawk, accidentally shot Macy Miller, aged 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Miller, living two miles south of this place, yesterday morning. The two boys were hunting near Mohawk when the accident occurred. Young Kaples loaded his rifle with .22 short and in some unaccountable manner discharged the weapon just after he had finished the loading. The bullet struck his chum in the fleshy part of the right hip. Dr. J W. Jennings was called and yesterday was unable to locate the lead by probing. The condition of the lad is not considered serious. Dr. Jennings administered tetamus antitoxin last night. Mohawk— Floyd Kaples, 48, of 28 North St., died today, Feb. 13, 1947, in a Utica Hospital, just 20 days after the death of his brother Ray, Jan. 24, 1947.
He was born in the Town of German Flatts, and was the son Jacob and Ella Kaples. He conducted the Citizens’ Supply Store here fr many years and was a member of the Methodist Church.

Mrs. Mabel (Kaples) Jeal, 82, of 42 Walnut St., Mohawk, died Saturday, Feb. 11, at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion.
She was born July 6, 1895, at Beech Hill, town of New Bremen, the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Rice.
On Oct. 1, 1919, she was married to Floyd Kaples, Mr. Kaples died February 14, 1948. She was later married to John Jeal on December 17, 1960. Mr. Jeal died in 1977.
She is survived by one son, Reginald Kaples, of Mohawk, one sister, Mrs. Nellie Warner of Rome, and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters and two brothers predeceased her. They were Mrs. Maurice (Cora) Bedford, Lowville, R.D., Mrs. Seth (Minnie) Peckham of Waterville, and William and Fred Rice. Lowville, R.D.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Graves-Applegate Funeral Home in Mohawk with Rev. Lloyd Tanner, pastor of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer.

Maynard P. Beach. Macy Miller acted as best man and Miss Alma Kaples, a sister of the groom, was the bndesmaid. Immedietly after the ceremony a dainty luncheon was served and the couple left in an automobile for Utica. Their wedding trip will include visits with friends in Syracuse and the parents of the bride in New Bremen. A very pleasing feature of the wedding was that the young people were married in the home they will occupy when they return to this village. They had purchased their new furniture and their new home before the wedding. The grooms gift to the bride was a beautiful dining room set consisting of round oak table, six chairs and china cabinet. His gift to the best man was a gold scarf clasp. The bride presented her maid with a set of gold lingerie clasps. The wedding presents consisted of cut glass, a silver tea service and linen. The young people have a host of friends who wish them a very happy future. They will be home to their friends on North Street after October 15, 1919.

Lloyd Kaples, 73, of 86 E. Main St., died yesterday in Herkimer Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb 14, 1899 in Mohawk, the son of Jay and Ella Voodre Kaples. A life-long resident of Mohawk, Mr. Kaples had been employed by both the Mohawk Lumber Co. and the Ilion Lumber Co. He attended the Mohawk United Methodist Church.
He leaves three sisters, Mrs. George (Alma) Scharpe, Camden, Mrs. Harold (Elsia) Stone, Ilion, and Mrs. Donald (Florence) Rice, Ilion; one brother, James Kaples of Rochester, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday from the Graves-Applegate Funeral Home, with the Rev. William A. Wilbur, assistant pastor of the Herkimer United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be this spring in Mohawk Cemetery
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

Mrs. George Sharpe, 74, of 727 W. Dominick St., died today in Rose Hospital after a brief illness.
The former Alma Kaples, she was born in Mohawk Sept. 15, 1901, daughter of Jay and Ella Kaples. She spent most of her life in this area and attended area schools.
She and Mr. Sharpe were married July 1, 1922. He died in 1972.
Mrs. Sharpe was a member of Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Iris) Jeffrey, Glendale, Calif.; Mrs. Francis (Elinor) Raut, Camden; Mrs. John (Loraine) Smith, Rome; Mrs. Joseph (Harlene) Pawlikowski, Blossvale; Mrs. Frank (Rachel) Pawlikowski, Rome, and Mrs. Charles (Patricia) Jones, Youngstown, Ohio; five sons, George Sharpe, Painesville, Ohio; Gerald Sharpe and James Sharpe, both of Rome; Peter Sharpe, Camden, and Paul Sharpe, who is serving with the Navy in Maryland. She also leaves two sisters, Elsie Stone and Florence Rice, both of Ilion; 62 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Mrs. Beverly Ceci, died in 1965.
Arrangements by the Griffin & Aldridge Funeral Home are incomplete. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Camden.

He was born in Watertown. son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Sharpe. He married Alma Kaples in Carthage in 1922. Thev had lived in Camden since l923 [sic].
Mr. Sharpe was a retired machine operator for the Rome Cable Corp.
He was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Rome and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white lace, ballerina-length, with tightfitting bodice. V-neckline, and short sleeves, with a full skirt of satin net under lace. Completing the costume was a juliet cap with shoulder-length veil, and three-quarter-length gloves. She carried a bouquet of white carnations with a white orchid and streamers.
The maid of honor wore a gown similar in style, of powder blue crystalette, ballerina-length, but with the tight bodice having a long torso. Her pixie-style hat was of matching color and she carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations.
The couple toured through Northern New York after the reception at the home of the bride. They will reside in Youngstown, Ohio.
The bride attended Rome schools and was employed at the Cavalier Restaurant.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Rayen School in Youngstown and is employed by the G. M. McKelvey Department Store. Youngstown.
A pre-nuptial shower was given the bride by Mrs. John R. Smith, and showers and a reception will be given by the parents of the bridegroom on their arrival in Youngstown.

ILION — Before an altar decorated with white gladiola and chrysanthemums. Miss Vicki Ellen Rice, daughter of Mrs. Donald V, Rice and the late Mr. Rice, of 20 S. Fourth Ave., became the bride of Thomas Charles McClave, son of Mr. and Mrs. Finley E. McClave, 174 S. Third Ave., at 2 p.m. today in Annunciation Church.
The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Patrick Mangan. Mrs. Clarence Urtz played traditional organ music.
Given in marriage by her uncle, Glynne R. Rice., the bride was attired in an organza and alencon lace edged cage type gown which fell loosely to floor length from a semi-fitted empire waistline. A full chapel length, detachable train, draped from the shoulder, was accented with alencon lace edging. Her petaled headpiece of organza and lace was attached to an elbow length bouffant veil of silk illusion. She carried a cascade bouquet of white and pink pompons, stephanotis and baby’s breath, centered with a white orchid.
Matron of honor, Mrs. Cheryl Deyle, chose an A-line cage gown of almond pink, accented with white Venice lace sleeves with pink ribbon inserts. Her petaled illusion headpiece, with short bouffant weil to match, completed her outfit. She carried a bouquet of pink and white pompons and chrysanthemums. .
Bridesmaids were Miss Janet Cormia, Mrs. Lynne Ferrari, Miss Linda Kennell, Mrs. Margaret Robertson, sister of the bridegroom. They wore gowns identical to the matron of honor’s and carried bouquets of white and pink pompons and chrysanthemums.
Best man was Jon Gerber. Ushering were Samuel Geragi, David Lonis, Edward Murray, Ken Williams.
After a reception at 3 p.m in the Top Hat Restaurant, the couple left on a trip to Miami Beach, Fla. On their return, they wiill reside at 206 West St.
The bride attended Boston University, and is a 1967 graduate of Ithaca College. She is a physical therapist at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital Center, Utica. Her husband, a three-year Navy veteran, is plant manager at Prine Cleaners and Laundry.
Pre-nuptial events were given by Mrs. Glynne Rice, Mrs. Frances Wright, Miss Martha Wright, Mrs Gordon Bernard, Mrs. Vincent Vernooy, and the bridesmaids.
Guests attended from Hudson, Camden, Kingston, Fairport, and valley towns.

MOHAWK - William Ira Kaples, 53, of 11 Warren Rd., formerly employed by Remington Arms Co., Ilion, as a woodfinisher until ill health forced his retirement in 1961, died in Ilion Hospital yesterday.
He was born in Mohawk on Oct. 4, 1908, a son of John and Ella Voodre Kaples, and was educated in Mohawk schools. In 1928 he married the former Roberta Sponburgh.
Mr. Kaples had also been employed by the Town of German Flatts, Citizen’s Supply Co., and Mohawk Hardware Co.
Mr. Kaples a member of the Mohawk Methodist Church, was a past noble grand of Mohawk IOOF January Lodge, a member of the Mohawk Fish and Game Club and the Remington Aims Employes Mutual Assn.

Born Feb. 3, 1909, in Exeter, N.Y., a daughter of Fred and Mabel Herrick Sponburgh, she was married to Mr. Kaples May 19, 1928 in Mohawk. He died in 1959. She was a member of the Methodist Church and Elizabeth Rebekah Lodge.

A background of white flower decorations formed the setting Mrs. Blanch Rankins was organist and Howard Hoffman sang “Because,’’ "The Lord’s Prayer” and "At Dawning."
Miss Donna Bridge, Mohawk, was maid of honor and Richard Stowell, also of Mohawk, best man. The Misses Patricia Booth, Mohawk, and Virginia Dapson, Delmar, were bridesmaids and William Finnegan, a cousin of the bride, ring bearer. Flower girls were Brenda and Barbara Monohan, twin nieces of the bride. David Bleau, the bride’s brother and Darrell Lubey, Mohawk, ushered.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore floor-length gown of Chantilly lace and tulle, with Southern Belle skirt, featuring set-in lace panels, accented with seed pearls and sequins, and flowing into a chapel train. Her shirred bodice was fashioned with a high Sabrina neckline, edged with embroidery and seaquins, with tiny sleeves. Her long mitts ended in calia points. Her fingertip veil of pure silk illusion fell in a double layer from a crown of pearls and sequins. She carried a colonial bouquet of white mixed flowers and ivy.
Her attendants wore long southern Belle gowns of white nylon eyelet over mint taffeta, wtth taffeta sashes forming butterfly bows in the back. Their large mint-green picture hats were banded with tafteta ending in flat bows on the brims. All carried colonial bouquets of white carnations and ivy.
The flower girls were in floor-length gowns of white eyelet over mint green taffeta with head-bands of white flowers and carried miniature bouquets of white mixed flowers.
The bride's mother wore beige handkerchief linen, trimmed with matching lace, and biege accessories. Her corsage was of yellow roses. The mother of the bridegroom selected blue and white print with white accessories and a pink rose corsage.
After a 2:30 reception at the home of the bride the couple will leave tor California where they will make their home.
She is a 1956 graduate of Mohawk Central High School attended Utica School of Commerce, and has been employed as secretary at Mohawk Central School. He is a 1954 Mohawk High graduate, served two years in the Army, and has been employed by Sperry-Rand in Utica.
Showers were given by Mrs. Clara Olyer, Mrs. Ira Kaples, Mrs. Richard Monohan, Mrs. William West and Miss Donna Bridger.
Guests attended the ceremony from Denver, Colo., Falls Church, Va., Binghamton, New London, Conn., Beverly, Mass., New York City. Delmar, Newport, Utica and Valley Towns.

Mohawk — John H. Gokey, 65, of 44 Walnut St, a veteran of old Company M during World War 1, died yesterday in Herkimer Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Gokey was born March 17, 1894, in Mohawk, son of John and Elva Caples Gokey. He was a painter and paperhanger by trade.
In 1920, he married Mary Denis in Mohawk.
Mr. Gokey was a member of Company M, First Infantry, New York State National Guard, which was merged with the former Seventh Infantry of New York City in 1917, while he was at Spartansburg, S. C. to become the 107th Infantry.
He served in France with the 27th Division, seeing action in Belgium and northern France. Mr. Gokey returned to Mohawk in 1919.
He leaves his wife; an adopted son, Francis Gokey of Plainfield N. J.; two brothers, George Gokey of Largo, Fla., Robert Gokey of Mohawk: two grandchildren: several nieces and nephews.
Military funeral services will be held at 2 tomorrow from the Graves Funeral Home here with the Rev. George C. Greenway, rector of Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mohawk Cemetery.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William (Marguerite) Moschetioof Herkimer and Mrs. John (Betty) Rathbun of Fort Plain; one brother, Robert Gokey of Mohawk. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Graves Funeral Home in Mohawk, Calling hours are Tuesday from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m..

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - George A. Stickles, 64, formerly of Academy Ave. Bookfield, died Monday in the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was bom at Fly Creek, son of Irving and Anna Van Steinberg Stickles. He was a machine operator at the Kelsey Hayes Company in Utica and retired in 1968.
Mr. Stickles leaves three daughters, Mrs. William (Nancy) Alsante of Utica, Mrs. Elizabeth Rathbun of Fort Plain, and Mrs. Peggy Moschetto of Herkimer; a stepson, Gary Ebare of Hudson Falls.
The funeral will be at 10:30 Friday from the McGrath Funeral Home in Richfield Springs. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight.
