- Obituary for Mary SCHUH, died March 11, 1977
  Mrs. Mary C. Schuh, 78, of Loretto Geriatric Center died yesterday after a long illness. She was a life resident of Syracuse. Mrs. Schuh was a former communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church. Surviving are a daughter, Sister Marie Aloysius, C.S.J., of St. John the Baptist Convent; two sons, William A. of Moraga, Calif., and Robert A.; two brothers, William A. CAPELS and Lawrence J. Capels of Baldwinsville; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Loretto Geriatric Center Chapel. Burial will be Monday in St. Mary's Cemetery in DeWitt. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. tomorrow at Donald W. Knight Funeral Home.

  Arthur T. Caples, Bradenton, formerly of Rochester, N.Y., died March 8, 2009.

  Mohawk — Mrs. Emma H. Appley 42, died at her home, 11 Walnut St., Nov. 31 (sic), 1952, following a long illness.
  She was born Feb. 3, 1910, in the Town of Litchfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Anderson. She moved to Mohawk 18 years ago where the has since resided. She was married to Roy Appley, who survives.
   She was a member of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament of Mohawk, and the Rosary Society of the church.
  Besides her husband, she leaves one son; Gordon, two brothers, Charles, Mohawk and Clarence, Richfield Springs, several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services will be from her home zat a time to be announced.

  Miss Gayle Nadeen Walker and Gordon F. Appley were married at noon April 11 during a double ring ceremony in the Reformed Church of Mohawk. The Rev. Benes officiated, wiih Bruce Stone as the soloist and Mrs. Paul Argrelius as organist.
  The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Walker, 201 E. North St., llion. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Appley, 11 Walnut St., Mohawk.
  The bride was given in marriage by her father. Miss Barbara Paske was maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Laura Staring, Mary Ann Kattanik, Charlotte Platts and Nancy Dekonek. Melissa Lee and Karen Ann Storne, cousins of the bride,
were flower girls.
  Paul Dekonek was best man. Ushering were Ramon Storne. the bride's uncle, John Platts, Curtis Dautel, and Ken Scherer. Master Paul Galinski was ring bearer.
  A reception was held inthe General Herkimer Hotel. The couple then left on a trip to Niagara Falls.
  The bridegroom is a radarman wi:h the Navy, stationed at Argentia, Newfoundland. After April 26, he will be stationed at Mayport, Fla.

  MOHAWK - Clyde D. Baker, 67, of 22 Michigan St., a retired tool grinder for the Remington Arms Co., died yesterday in Faxton Hospital, Utica.
  He was born in Washington County. He married Doris Appley in 1942 in Virginia. He retired in 1967 after 35 years at the Remington Arms.
  Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Miles (Lois) Ackler and Miss Bonnie Baker, both of Mohawk, and Mrs. Ronald (Doris) Smith, West Winfield; five sons, Clyde J., Lynchburg, Va.; John F., Ilion; Herman E., with the U.S. Navy in Japan; Robert A., and David A., both of West Winfield, a sister, Mrs. Harold (Beatrice) Stewart. Cincinnati, and a brother, Arthur Baker, Gansevoort.
  The funeral will be at 1:30 Monday from the Graves-Applegate Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mohawk Cemetery.
  Calling hours are from 7 to 9 tonight, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tomorrow.

  Mrs. Ada R. Damon, 76, of Fulton Street died yesterday at Community-General Hospital, Syracuse.
  A native of Syracuse, Mrs. Damon had resided in the Central Square area most of her life. She was the widow of David G. Damon and attended the First Baptist Church of Central Square.
  Surviving are a son, Donald Damon, a daughter, Mrs. Daniel Rothschild of DeWitt; a granddaughter; a grandson; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry C. Rice of Medeira Beach, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Florence Auburn, and several nieces and nephews.
  Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Watson Funeral Home, Central Square, the Rev: J. Holland Maughan officiating. Spring burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

 - Newspaper Article (Watertown Daily Times, NY, Saturday, July 31 1915)
   Black River. July 31.-Tuesday afternoon, William Campbell of South Rutland brought Miss Ada Rice and David Damon of the same place to Black River in his automobile to obtain a marriage license of William Scott, town clerk. When they reached the top of the Middleton hill the brake on the car refused to work and they proceeded down the hill at an ever increasing rate of speed. Mr. Campbell succeeded in keeping the auto in the middle of the road, but when they reached the breakwater at the foot of the hill the machine bounded in the air, but fortunately landed right side up, breaking only one spring. The three people escaped uninjured. They proceeded to the village, secured the license and later were married by Rev. Latimer at Watertown

  Funeral services were held Saturday (Jan. 17, 1953) at Utica, N.Y., for Mrs. Mary Goettel, wife of Shermasn Goettel. Mrs. Goettel was the daughter of the late George ans Anna Leininger, Lancaster, and formerly resided in Cuba.

  IUON - Rose H. Gilpin, 87, of 14 Marshall Ave., Ilion, passed away December 4, 1986.
  She was born December 22, 1898, in Stanwix, N.Y., the daughter of Emil and Anna Diedekindt Thierfelder. She attended Mohawk schools and married Arthur W. Caple in 1919. She then married Herber Gilpin in 1944. He passed away in 1977. She was employed as a stock checker with Remington Arms, retiring several years ago. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ilion.
  Mrs. Gilpin is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Vivian) Casey, of Ilion; a son, Arthur Caple, of Fruitland Park, Fla.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters and a
brother.
  Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc. with Spring interment in the Mohawk Cemetery. Calling hours are 7-9 Friday and 10-11 Saturday.

Robert John Casey

  Robert J: Casey, machinist mate, 3-c, has returned home after receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy in New York. Husband of Mrs. Vivian Casey, Second St, he had served aboard the USS Knight in the invasion of Sicily and Italy, for which he received two battle stars. Aboard the destroyer he made 17 crossings of the Atlantic. Casey enlisted on Navy Day, Oct. 27, 1942 and received basic training at Sampson. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James N. Casey, N. Fourth Ave., and was formerly employed by the Remington Arms Co.

 - Wedding Announcement (The Ilion Sentenel, NY, Thursday, April 16, 1942)
  The marriage of Miss Vivian Caple, daughter of Mrs. Rose H. Caple, 384 Second Street, to Robert J. Casey, son of Mr. and, Mrs. James D. Casey. 14 W. Rand St.,  took place Saturday in St. Augustine's church, with the Rev. L. R. Benson performing the ceremony.
  Mrs. Leslie Hoke was matron of honor and the best man Harold L. Casey, brother of the bridegroom. Ushers were John Fltzer and Emll Thierfelder, uncle of the bride.
  Miss Caple wore a white chiffon, floor length gown, with fingertip veil, caught with sweet peas and white spirea. She carried a white prayer book with white orchids.
  Following the ceremony, a reception took place in the home of the bride. After a wedding trip to New York. Mr. and Mrs. Casey will live at 294 Second Street.
