ILION - Mrs. Irene E Pett, wife of Irving D. Pett of North Columbia, died in Ilion Hospital Saturday night following a two weeks illness.
She was born in German Flatts Sept. 30, 1900, and had always lived in this vicinity. She attended the North Columbia Church.
She is survived by her husband and three children, Edith, Leonard and Dorothy; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Robertson of Mohawk; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Purdy of Mohawk, and three brothers, Earl Sidney and Kenneth Robertson of Mohawk.
Funeral services will be condusted from the home by the Rev. Earl D. Ridgeway tomorrow at 2:30, standard time, and burial will be at Mohawk.

Irving. D. Pett, 67, of North Columbia Road, was found dead in a field on his farm Monday evening, June 3, by his wife. Cornor Upright said Pett died of multiple rib fractures and a ruptured spleen and liver.. An autopsy was performed by Faxton Hospital pathologist Dr. Legrand Thomas.
Pett apparently fell from the wagon he had been operating and then was run over by the machine. He was found at about six o'clock by his wife, who had last seen him at one o'clock.
Pett was chairman and director af the Herkimer County Soil and Water Conservation District past chairman of the Southern Herkimer County Republican Club and was an organizer of the Herkimer County Farm Bureau.
Mr. Pett was born Dec. 20, 1901 in the Town of Columbia. He was married to Irene Robertson, who died in 1929. He was later married to Laura Reed in Alton, N.. Y., Dec. 31, 1929,
He leaves his wife; four daughter, Mrs. Howarrd (Edith) Dunn of Richfield Springs, Mrs. Alfred (Julia) Llewelyn of Richfield Springs, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Frederick of Ilion RD, Mrs. Edmund (Irene) Zuis of Auburn; a son, Leonard of Ilion RD 2; a sister, Miss Lilliam Pett of Frankfort; a brother Harold of Ilion RD, Gorge Road.

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Howard Dunn, 70, of RD 2, sales manager of the Richfield Springs Mobile Homes, Inc., died yesterday in Upstate Medical Center.
He was born Dec 29, 1903, the son of Frank U. and Alice Emrich Dunn in Frankfort. He attended Frankfort schools. He married Edith I. Pett on Dec. 23, 1947 in Elkton, Maryland. He was a tool and die maker for Sperry-Rand UNIVAC. moving here from Oneida Lake 12 years ago.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters. Mrs Dale (Frances) Anthonson, of Richfield Springs RD. and Mrs. Willard (Shirley) V. Bicknell, of Kast Bridge, Herkimer RD; four sons, Robert of Boonton, N J.; Howard of Mohawk; Donald of Sunbury, Pa., and Frank of Syracuse, one sister, Mrs. Frances Harter of Herkimer, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 Saturday from the Applegate Funeral Home, Ilion, with the Rev. Charles Williams, officiating. Burial will be next spring in Oak View Cemetery, Frankfort

Marx Q. Cristman, 95, of Claxton Manor, suddenly passed away Friday, April 8, 2005 at the Little Falls Hospital.
He was a practicing attorney in Herkimer for over 69 years, until retiring from the practice of law on December 1, 2004. He was a member of the Herkimer County Bar Association and served as a past president of the Herkimer County Historical Society. He became a director of the Folts Home in 1942 and served as a board member and its treasurer for 30 years. He was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer, where for many years he served as lay leader representing the local church at the annual Northern New York United Methodist Conference. He loved his family camp at Lake Rondaxe in Old Forge, where he continually spent his summers since 1914. He and his wife Bess enjoyed many activities at Herkimer County Community College, where they jointly established the Cristman Scholarship. They also participated in many local dance groups, prior to Bess death, after which time he continued to enjoy attending polka dances. For many years he was an active amateur radio operator. Until recently he enjoyed good health, was very active and enjoyed swimming and dancing.
He was born in Herkimer December 19, 1909, the son of the Hon. Franklin W. Cristman and Camilla Quackenbush Cristman. He attended Herkimer Schools and Syracuse University, where he received his bachelor of arts degree in 1932 and his law degree in 1935. In 1935 he was admitted to the New York State Bar. He married Bess in 1935, who predeceased him in 1994, after 59 years of marriage. He is survived by his three children: Camilla Aulerich and husband Richard of Mason, Michigan; Hall Cristman of Tuscon, Arizona; Scott Cristman and wife Kathleen of Pittsford, New York; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Calling hours at Fenner Funeral Home Inc, 115 Court Street, Herkimer, will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, 127 Prospect Street.

ILION—Minard L. Ward, 68, of 59 Elm St., died following a heart attack last night in his home.
He was born Dec. 5, 1885 in Ilion, a son of Lester and Susanne Wondisford. He was married in 1908 to Bertha Truax, of Herkimer.
He retired in 1950 from Remington Arms, where he had been a member of the 25-Year Club. He was a member of the Methodist Church and for 44 years of Ilion Lodge, IOOF, of which he was a past district deputy.
He leaves his widow; one daughter, Miss Ruth Ward, both of Ilion; one son, Ronald, Watkins Glen; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Tubbs, of El Monte, Calif.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday from the home, with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Ilion Lodge, JOOF, will meet at 7:30 p. m. Friday at the home for ritualistic services.

ILION—Mrs. Bertha T. Ward 74, a native of Herkimer, died yesterday at her home, 59 Elm St., after a long illness.
She was bom in Herkimer on July 10, 1886, a daughter of Herbert and Catherine Nichols Truax. On April 8, 1908, she was married to Minard L. Ward in Herkimer. He died in 1954.
Mrs. Ward had lived here since her marriage. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, its Delta Alpha Class and the WSCS.
Surviving is a son, Ronald of Watkins Glen; a daughter. Mrs. Ruth Power, Ilion; two grandchildren; Marsha and Norman Ward; Watkins Glen; two niecesx and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home by the Rev. Carlton Van Ornum, pastor of First Methodist Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer.

West Winfield — George Beach, 71, of North St., injured when struck by a postal truck Wednesday near the Post Office, died early yesterday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Utica.
Trooper R. J. Chidsey, West Winfield State Police sub-station, said Beach suffered a severed spinal column and shock. The accident occurred about 10 a. m. in the driveway next to the Post Office on Main St.
State Police reported that a 1 1/2 ton truck, driven by Norman F. Satterlee, 29, of Collins Ave., Whitesboro, was backing into the driveway when the driver heard a noise. He stopped and found Beach lying in the driveway. Beach had apparently been walking in the driveway near the rear of the Post Office, State Police said.
Mr. Beach was born March
22. 1889, in Town of Brookfield, son of Eugene and Mary Simmons Beach. He was educated in Brookfield schools. On Feb. 9, 1924. in West Winfield, he married Corlie Ward. The Rev. William Williams performed the ceremony.
A farmer, he had lived in this vicinity 36 years. He was caretaker of the Federated Church and the Post Office in recent years.
He was a member of West Winfield Grange and West Winfield Methodist Church.
He leaves his wife; a son, Arthur Beach of Binghamton; a daughter, Mrs. Francis Jones of Frankfort; a brother Frank Beach of Byron; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 3, Sunday, from the West Winfield Federated Church with the Rev. Douglas Passage, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. William Douglas, pastor of the Utica Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, New Hartford.

WEST WINFIELD — Dora H. Ward, 81, died December 3,1988, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
She was born July 18, 1907, in the Town of Schuyler, the daughter of Roscoe and Mary Ann Richards Horning. She received her education in Babcock Hill and West Winfield Schools. She was married to Harold G. Ward on September 24, 1924, in North Winfield. Mrs. Ward was employed by the Hitemah Tannery, worked as a telephone operator, was employed by the Gatesdale Dairy Bar and the Farmer's Museum Gift Shop, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the West Winfield Federated Church and a life member of Winfield Chapter #418 Order of the Eastern Star.
Besides her husband, Harold, she is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Hazel Mary and William L. Coppen, of Saquoit, Louise and Edwin Kosmoski and Inez and George Thomas, all of West Winfield; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Kenneth (Jennie) Williams, of Syracuse, and Mrs. Gladys Ephrain, of Bridgewater, several neices, nephews and cousins; teo sisters-in-law, Dorthea Horning, of Saquoit, and Helen Horning of Utica.

Miss Hazel Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Harold Ward of West Winfield, and Lowell Merritt, son of Mrs. Frank Liddle, Cooperstown, were married April 6th, in. the West Winfield Methodist churih.
The Rev. Henry Fisher of Parish, officiated at the double ring ceremony.
The bride was attended by her sister; Miss Louise Ward, and the best man was the groom's brother, Corliss Merritt. The ushers were Edward Merritt, also a brother of the bridegroom, and Ronald Miller, Syracuse.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white brocaded satin, fashioned with a high neckline and full skirt. Her finger-tip veil of net, trimmed with lace, was caught with a cluster of seed pearls and orange blossoms. She carried white roses and sweet peas.
Her maid of honor appeared in blue satin with matching net skirt. Her shoulder length veil was caught to a crown of blue flowers and she carried yellow roses and sweet peas.
After a reception at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merritt left for a wedding trip to Boston and New York. They will live in Cooperstown.
The bride was graduated from West Winfield Central school and has been employed as a nurses Aide in the Mary Imogene Bassett hospital.
The bridegroom attended Cooperstown Central school and served in the U. S. Navy, in the Pacific theater on the U. S. Sargent Bay.
