Down Memory Lane - 50 Years Ago - July 12, 1917 …While on a 600-mile trip to Ithaca, Elmira and other places last week, Ernest Woolver had 14 punctures, 13 of which were caused by nails in the road.

Down Memory Lane - 40 Years Ago - June 26, 1924
During the severe thunderstorm early Saturday morning, the barn on the poultry farm of Ernest Woolver, near this village, was struck by lightning and burned with loss of hay, fertilizer and tools The barn was built on the site of one struck by lightning and burned 23 years ago, at which time Mr. Woolver's grandfather, Mr. Klock, was killed.

Mrs. Ruth S. Woolver, 63, of Shoemaker Hill, died Friday, September 2, 1955 in St. Luke's Hosjpital, Utica.
She was born Apr. 26, 1892 in German Flatts, a daughter of Alvah and Philena Shaffer Swift and was married to Ernest Woolver in Herkimer on Sept 13, 1917.
A former Richfield Springs and Ilion resident Mrs. Woolver moved to the old family homestead about 11 years ago.
She was a member of the Paines Hollow Church; Richfield Springs DAR, a charter member of the Ilion Home Bureau and was active in Girl Scout work while in Ilion.
She graduated from Oneonta Normal School and taught school in Orlskany and Herkimer before her marriage.
Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Philena Wells, Reseda, Calif.; Miss Ernestine Woolver, New Hartford; a son, Ernest, Ilion; a sister, Mrs. Vera Pammetta, Toledo, Ohio, and four grandchildren.
The funeral was held Monday in Ilion, with the Rev. S. Bowen Hawkins, pastor of the Paines Hollow church, officiated. Burial was in Armory Hill cemetery, Ilion.

Vernon G. Klock, 72, a retired railway mail clerk, died yesterday in the Holden-Seward Nursing Home, Minoa, after a long illness.
A native of Herkimer, he lived on the Kirkville Road, East Syracuse R.D. Mr. Klock retired seven years ago after 25 year’s service in the postal department.
During World War I, Mr. Klock was in the Navy’s postal service in France. He was a member of Nortrip Masonic Lodge 998, Modern Woodmen of America and the Minoa Methodist Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alice Klock; two sons, David of Lancaster and Paul of East Syracuse; two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Russell H. Schepp Funeral Home, Minoa, the Rev. Gordon Knapp will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens.

She was born on January 31, 1917 the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ross Ackler. She was married to Milton Williams who died in 1969. At one time, she was a machine operator for Remington Rand Co and Sperry Rand Univac.
Survivors include two step-daughters Mrs Raymond (Dema) Fink of Mt Morris, Mich and Mrs Gordon (Lucia) Helmer of Connecticut, two step-sons Milton Williams. Jr of Michigan and Warren Williams of W Winfield, RD; two brothers, Lyle Ackler of Michigan and James Ackler of Schyrer l.ake NY; 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, several nieces nephews and cousins.

He was born in Frankfort, son of William and Agnes Regan Williams. He married Alta Ackler who died in 1936. His second marriage was to Alice Ackler, not related to his first wife, in West Winfieild in 1945.
Mr. Williams had lived in Leonardsville for the last four years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

ILION — Lawrence E. Shepard, 70, of 43 W. Montgomery St., who retired several years ago as a carpenteer wit the Phil Wick Coonstruction Co. died yesterday in the home of his son Larry Shepard, Richfield Springs.
He was born in Martinsburg. He married Mary Culver in 1929 in Camden.
Besides his wife he leaves four daughters, Mrs. Edna Spatto of West Leyden, Mrs. Madison (Ruth) Getman Sr. of IIion, Mrs. Mary Gutheins of Herkimer, Mrs. George (Helen) Rose of Dolgeville; five sons, Larry, Gerald of Orange Grove, Calif., Donald and Lawrence, both of Morrisville, Harold of Herkimer, and two brothers, Harold of Utica and George of Camden.
The funeral will be at 1 Monday from the Graves-Applegate Funeral Home, Mohawk. Burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.
