 - Obituary (Los Angeles Daily News, CA, August 20, 2011)
William Harold Depew passed away on August 2, 2011, in Burbank, California, at the age of fifty-six.
A graveside service was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, on Friday, August 19, 2011.
Bill and his twin sister, Elizabeth Ann "Beth", were born November 11, 1954 to Harold G. and Lydia S. Depew, and grew up in Burbank, California.
He attended Lincoln Elementary, Jordan Junior High and graduated from John Burroughs High School in 1972, after which he briefly attended UCLA.
Bill enjoyed sports and playing the guitar, but his passions were electronics and computer programming. Bill had an uncanny ability to learn most things seemingly without effort. He was always thinking outside the box and looking for a way to do something that no one else thought of.
He was a founding partner of the software company Artsci, and was instrumental in developing a word processing application and games for the Apple II computer.
Bill is survived by his loving mother, Lydia S. Depew; and his three sisters, Dolores J. Springer of Tucson, AZ; Eva M. (Tom) Umholtz of Fresno, CA; and Elizabeth A. (Ron) Morgan of Loyalton, CA. In addition to his numerous cousins, he is survived by his niece and nephews and their families: Gretchen Umholtz (Mike Ierardi); Bill (Yuri) Springer; Tom (Ana Maria) Umholtz Jr.; Kurt (Lisa) Umholtz; and Kenneth Morgan. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Harold G. Depew, in 1973.

Information supplied by Loretta Turns Schlott. Known as Al, he served with the Army Air Corps in WW II in the south Pacific theater. Loretta calls Al her prize possession, and says her dad thought the sun rose and set on Al. Larry recalls his dad was the smallest of Fred's children, called "tot" by his brothers and sisters, and describes Al as a shy, quiet and retiring man, strongly Christian, who lived out his faith and was respected by everyone who knew him.
Al's family and the other siblings rarely got together, according to Larry, and he did not know them at all well.
