Clay A. Timmerman
Production manager
CLAYTON - Clay A. Timmerman, 94, formerly of East Main Street, Brownville, a longtime resident of Clayton, died Friday afternoon in Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he had been admitted earlier in the week. He had been a resident of Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, since January.
Mr. Timmerman worked for the former Clayton Manufacturing Co. and Johnston Knitting Co. for 45 years before retiring. Following his retirement, he worked as a production manager for three years at Ridgeline Industries Inc.
He was an accomplished artist whose paintings and sketches were displayed locally, and was a member of Clayton Fire Department.
Born Sept. 26, 1909, at St. Lawrence Corners, town of Cape Vincent, son of Dennison and Mabel Harter Timmerman, he attended local schools.
A 1933 marriage to Henrietta LaRue ended in divorce.
Mr. Timmerman married Delene Cromwell on Nov. 19, 1949, in Philadelphia. Mrs. Timmerman died April 3, 2003.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Daniel Hall, Brownville, with whom he lived from October 2000 until January, and Barbara and Dennis Fontaine, Las Vegas, Nev.; a son and his wife, David and Margaret, Clayton; a brother, Richard, Clayton; a sister-in-law, Helen Timmerman, Alexandria Bay; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Jennie Taylor and Emma Moffatt, a twin brother, Clifford, and a granddaughter, died before him.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the family plot in Clayton Cemetery. The body will be cremated at Frederick Bros. Crematory, Theresa.
