St. Johnsville, June 14. — The friends of Augustus Rumpff residing here were informed by telephone Saturday afternoon that he had passed on. Mr. Rumpff was a son of Adolphus Rumpff, formerly pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. Stone Arabia. He came to this village about 18--, entering into business with a relative under the firm name of Rumpff & Saltsman. This was not continued long, but Mr. Rumpff remained a resident of St. Johnsville, carrying on at one time the business of upholstering and furniture repairing. For a number of years he had been in the employ of the Central Railroad Company at St. Johnsville, Fort Plain and Herkimer. Last winter hie wife, Amelia, daughter of Peter I. and Catherine Saltsman of Palatine, died very suddenly at her home at Herkimer. A few years ago Mr. Rumpff experienced a slight attack of paralysis, which, while not disabling him, rendered the condition of his health very precarious. It was not generally known here that his illness had assumed a serious nature until his decease was Announced. The remains were brought to this village last night and the funeral will be held at 1 p. m. to-morrow at the residence of Jeremiah Saltsman. Rev. O. J. Hogan officiating. The interment will be in the village cemetery.

Fort Plain, July 14. — Frederick Saltsman, one of the best known farmers in this locality, passed away at his home in Stone Arabia yesterday at the age of 84 years. He had been in failing health for a number of years past. Mr. Saltsman during his life time came in possession of a good many hundreds of acres of land, divided into various farms, some of which he has awarded in later-years to his near relatives. One of the farms has been in the family since long before the time of his birth, the one that he occupied at the time of his death, the old homestead, in which he had lived his whole life time. He never married. His sister, Mrs. Arthur Richard, and her husband conducted the homestead farm. He was a Republican in his political faith. Three sisters survive, Mrs. Arthur Rickard, Miss Amelia Saltsman, who resides at home and Mrs. Delia Nellis of Palatine. The funeral will be held from his late home Thursday, July 15, at 1 o'clock. The Rev. L. B. Dutcher officiating.
