George William Burke, 61, widely known bee keeper in the Fultonville area, died yesterday in the Amsterdam City Hospital. He had been ill two and one half years. His condition became critical a week ago and he was moved to the hospital Sunday.
Mr. Burke was born in Rockwood Sept. 19, 1897, the son of Ira J. and Melinda Weaver Burke, where he spent the early part of his life. He attended school in Fultonville and had been a resident of the area for many years.
On Oct. 31, 1922 he married Bertha Hastings at Johnstown, who survives. He was a retired glove cutter and was last employed at Elmer Little & Son in Johnstown. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Beside, his wife, the survivors are two sons, Charies J. Burke of Fultonville RD and Robert Burke of Gloversville; two daughters, Mrs. Cady Staley of Amsterdam RD 3 and Mrs. Richard Holden of Fultonville RD; three brothers, Harry Burke of Fonda RD and LeRoy and Reed Burke of Johnstown; one sister, Mrs. Mae Saltsman of Johnstown, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Reed Burke, 67, Johnstown, who died Thursday in Johnstown Hospital, will be buried Sunday in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda, following funeral services at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, Gloversville, at 2:30 p.m.
Mr. Burke was born in the Town of Palatine Nov. 8, 1900, and resided in Fonda and Ilion prior to moving to Johnstown 10 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose Burke; one son, Richard Burke, Gloversville, one daughter, Mrs. Robert Pettit, Perth; two brothers, Harry Burke, Fonda, and LeRoy
Burke, Johnstown; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rose Z. Burke, 64, died suddenly early this morning at her home, Amsterdam RD 6 (Perth). She was the widow of Reed Burke.
Born in Lewis County, she had lived in Fonda and Johnstown for many years before moving to Perth about two years ago. She had formerly been employed at the Swears Glove Co. in Johnstown. Mrs. Burke was a member of the Perth Bible Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Pettit, Perth RD; a son, Richard Burke, Gloversville; her mother, Mrs. Mary Zehr of Lowville; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Streeter, Tastorland; a brother, Oliver Zehr, Lowville; seven grandchildren, one greatgrandchild, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home in Gloversville, with the Rev. Charles F. Scheide, pastor of Perth Bible Church, to officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and Saturday from 2-4 and 7- 9 p.m.

He was born February 11, 1926 in Ilion, NY to Reed and Rose Burke. He graduated Fonda High School in Fonda, NY. Richard worked as a fore man for Viplex Corporation retiring in 1992. He was a veteran of WWII proudly serving in the Army. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary Lou; son, Wayne (Burette) Burke; daughter, Bonnie Burke, and four grandchildren. The altar was decorated with an arrangement of white gladioli and carnations. James Hugtiston of Johnstown played traditional wedding music at the organ.
The bride was given in marriage by her stepbrother, Robert Hodges of Springfield, Mass. She wore a 3-piece mortarcolored pure silk suit with a matching polka dot blouse designed with a roll collar. She wore a beige feather whimsy and beige accessories and a white orchid corsage.
Mrs. Alice Brumaghim of Gloversville was matron of honor for her sister. She wore an apple green rayon and linen ensemble with a white feather whimsy and white accessories and a white orchrid corsage.
Robert Pettit of Perth, brother-in-law of the bridegroom was best man. Ushers were Harold Brumaghim, brother-inlaw of the bride, and Gerald Moore, step brother of the bride both of Gloversville.
The bride's stepmother, Mrs. Irene Van Wegenen, wore a yellow and brown print dress and white accessories. The mother of the bridegroom wore an aqua blue dress with white accessories. Both wore corsages of yellow roese.
A reception for 70 was held at Bendl's Brass Rail, Northville after the ceremony.
For the wedding trip to Bermuda, the bride chose a light blue imported crimp-knit longsleeved dress, a beige whimsy and accessories and a white orchid corsage. The couple will reside at 6 Second Avenue.
The bride, a graduate of Broadalbin Central School, is employed by St. Thomas Inc. The bridegroom, a graduate of Fonda - Fultonville Central School is employed by Glen and Mohawk Milk Association Inc., Fultonville.

Harry Haven Burke, ten years old, died at 4:45 yesterday afternoon at his home in Berryville, the victim of an extremely rare disease, lymphatic leukeima. The case was one of six listed in medical records and for which there is no known cure. The disease, according to physicians, affects the glands. He had been ill about
three and one-half months.
Harry Haven Burke was born April 17, 1932, in Amsterdam, but spent practically all his life in Berryville. He was the son of Harry and Olive Mary Furkart Burke.
He was a member of the Fonda Methodist church and the Sunday school. He was an adept pupil In the Fonda public schools and was promoted from the Fifth Grade last June. He was presented with a perfect attendance certificate just before he was taken ill.
Besides his parents, the survivors are his grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Burke of Fonda and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Furkart of Troy: his great-grandmother, Mrs. Thurfey Moore of Pittsficld, Mass., several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the home in Berryville. The Rev. Herbert S Roberts, pastor of the Fonda Methodist church, will officiate.
Interment will be made in the Evergreen cemetery on the Sand Flats.

Mrs Lulu M. Lake, 74 of 422 North Market Street, died early this morning at Littauer Hospital where she admitted last night.
She was born in Rockwood and resided in Gloversville until 1937 when she moved to Caroga Lake She moved to Johnstown about two years ago
Mrs. Lake was the widow of Clarence Lake, who died in 1953. She was a member of the Fremont Street Methodist Church in Gloversville. She was a member of the Fulton County Home Bureau and was an honorary member of the Caroga Lake volunteer fire department auxiliary.
Survivors are one son. Clarence S. Lake of Johnstown, and three grandchildren

Frank L, Pfliegl, 78, of 60 East Eighth Avenue, died at 1:30 this morning at Littauer Hospital where be was a patient since June 17.
He was born Oct. 10, 1896, in Athens, Greene County, the son of Charles and Ella Weiderman Pfliegl.
He moved with his family to Johnstown when he was a boy and attended schools there. He resided in Johnstown until his marriage to the former Lena Clements May 8, 1940, after which the couple resided in
Gloversville Mrs. Pfliegl died Dec. 2, 1974.
Mr. Pfliegl was an auto mechanic by occupation. He was employed a total of 28 years by the former Parsons Ford company and by Nelson Jones Ford company before retiring In 1973. He was employed in his earlier
years by the former H and P Machine Shop.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Gardiner of Gloversville; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Finch of Great Barrington, Mass.; three grandchildren, one niece, several nephews and cousins.

Raymond Shults, 55, of 331 Forest Avenue, Amsterdam, former local resident who has four survivors residing here, died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday afternoon about 1.
He had worked up to noon at the Home Dairy Cafeteria in Amsterdam, where he was employed, and was stricken on Church Street in thst city. An ambulance was summoned and he died en route to the Amsterdam City Hospital.
He was born March 3, 1899 in the Town of Palatine, son of Edward and Libbie E (Weaver) Shults. He moved to Johnstown as a young man and later took up his residence in Gloversville, where he was employed at the Home Dairy Cafeteria. Twelve years ago he moved to Amsterdam and had resided there since.
He attended the Methodist Church.

Marine Corps, stationed aboard the USS Iowa; one brother, Harold, of Johnstown; four sisters, Mrs. Lulu Lake of Caroga Lake, Mrs. Viola Ford and Mrs. Gertrude Ward of Johnstown and Mrs Lena Pfliegl of Gloversville.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete last night due to the fact that his wife left yesterday for Princess Ann, Va., to visit their son Edward, who is about to leave for Japan.
The Betz & Van Buren Funeral Home of Amsterdam is handling the arrangements.

She was employed at the Glovecraft factory. Mrs. Sparks was a member of the First Methodist church.

PFC, RAYMOND SHULTS, FIRST REPORTED MISSING, IS NOW WELL AND SAFE, CABLE SAYS
Pfc. Raymond Shulta. Jr.. aged 26. reported missing in action in Germany since March 17. in a War Department telegram received April 2 by his wife. Mrs. Dorothy (Robarge) Shults. 18 Whitmore avenue. is "well and aafe." according to a cablegram from him received by his wife yeaterday. His mother, Mrs. Frank Sparks, of the same address, was the recipient of a similar cable.
It is believed that he was libderated from a German prison camp by the advancing Allied forces, although no report had been received here to the effect that he was a prisoner of war.
Pfc. Shults entered the armed forces with a Selective Service contingent from Local District 388, (CIty of Gloversville), February 11, 1944. and received his basic training at Camp Swift, Texas.
He waa assigned to the combat engineers and in September of last year was sent east to Fort Dix, N. J. and was shipped overseas that month.
His outftt landed in France and became a unit of the l02nd Division of the Ninth Army. He has the European Theatre of Operations ribbon and also a bronze star for participation in action in the Ruhr valley..
His wife resides with his mother on Whitmore avenue. Hia father, Raymond Shults, resides In Hagaman.
Pfe. Shults' uncle, Pvt. Walter Shults, 34, of 308 Parkwood avenue, was first reported missing in Germany since December 6, in a wire received on the 30th of that month, but later, on March 5, a letter from him waa received by hia wife. Mrs, Anna Shults, saying he was a prisoner of the Germans.

This morning at 10 in the rectory of the Sacred Heart Church, the Rev. Anthony Kruegler united in marriage Dorothy Robarge of 14 North Boulevard to Raymond Shults, Jr., of 18 Whitmore avenue, Johnstown.
The bride was very attractively attired in aquamarine blue lace over blue satin, with a corona shaped cap and shoulder veil trimmed with pearls. She carried a bouquet of token roses and baby breath with long aquamarine blue streamers.
The maid of honor, Miss Betty Teetz, was also dressed in aquamarine blue chiffon, with a corona shaped cap and her corsage was pink roses and sweet peas.
The bridegroom and best man, Douglas F. Mills, of Johnstown, wore blue coats and white flannels with boutonniers of white carnations.
The couple presented their attendants with personal gifts.
Following the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served to the bridal party at the bride's home.
After several days' wedding trip they will reside at 14 North Boulevard.

Harold C. Shults, 51, of 109 Glebe Street, died at 3:55 yesterday afternoon in St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, where he was admitted in mid-morning.
He was a life long resident of Johnstown, born here Aug. 19, 1906, son of Edward Shults and Libbie
E. (Weaver) Shults.
He was an employe of the Rebel Dye Company, Gloversville, a member of the Exempt Firemen's Association
and Moose Lodge, and an attendant of the First Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Alzina Shults; two daughters. Miss Betty Shults of Johnstown and
Mrs. Fred Kuhne of Gloversville; a son. Ronald Shults, Johnstown: four sisters, Mrs. Lulu Lake of Caroga Lake, Mrs. Viola Ford and Mrs. John Ward of Johnstown and Mrs. Frank Pfiegl, Gloversville.

Mrs. Carrol Walsh Sr., organist, offered a recital while the guests were arriving and played the traditional wedding music. Mias Clara Fiacco sang "On This Day, O Beautiful Mother" and Schubert's "Ave Maria."
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a white gown of French imported rosepoint lace over satin. It had a fitted bodice, long pointed sleves, mandarin neckline trimmed with iridescent sequins, a bouffant skirt and sweep train.
She wore a rosepoint lace pillbox headpiece trimmed with iridescent sequins and a silk illusion fingertip veil appliqued with lace. The bride carried a white orchid on a prayer book with streamers of stephanotis.
Miss Joan Alexander, maid of honor, wore a strapless, ballerina length gown of blue nylon net over taffeta with ruffled skirt. The gown was fashioned with a white lace bodice and peplum extending to the bottom of the skirt in back.
She wore a matching stole and large blue horsehair picture hat with velvet streamer trim. Miss Alexander carried a blue nylon net fan covered with red roses, white carnations and stephanotis.
Miss Betty J. Shults, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. She wore a yellow strapless ballerina length gown of nylon net over taffeta, fashoned with a lace bodice and tiered skirt.
She wore a matching stole and a large yellow horsehair picture hat with velvet streamer trim. The bridesmaid carried a yellow net fan covered with red roses, white carnations and stephanotis.
Lynn Michele Stafford, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a gown of blue nylon net of over taffeta with a low neck and very full floor length skirt and a bonnet to match of net and taffeta trimmed with blue flowers. She carried a nylon net fan covered with red roses, white carnations and stephanotis.
The brides, mother wore a two-piece navy blue shantua sheath dress trimmed with white lace white accessories and a corsage of red roses
The bridegrooms mother wore a chiffon voile dress of white and blue with white accessories and a corsage of red roses.
The best man was Theodore Kuhne. Jr., brother of the bridegroom, William Laird Jr., of Glovresville, and Alfred Smith of this city were ushers and Ronald Edward Shults, brother of the bride, was ring bearer.
A reception was held at 2:30 in Glove Inn where a buffet luncheon was served to 115 guests. The couple cut a four-tiered cake. Music was furnished by Thomas D'Errico's orchestra.
The bride was graduated from Johnstown High School. Class of '52 and is emoloyed at the Peoples Branch of the State Bank of Albany.
Mr Kuhne Is employed by the Fulton County Highway Department.
The couple left on a trip to Canada and the New England states.
Out-of-town guests were present from Albany, Newport, Mayfield, Northville, Fonda, Tribes Hill. Caroga Lake and Gloversville.
A rehearsal party was held Friday night at the home of the bride's parents. at which time the attendants received personal gifts.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white Chantilly lace gown and a matching headbow from a circular veil. The gown, worn over taffeta, was designed with a high, scallop-edged ring collar, long tapered sleeves, front trim of lace re-embroidery interwoven button closing and a soft A-line skirt. She carried a semi-cascade bouquet of white miniature carnations and pink and white sweetheart roses.
Mrs. Renee Leach ot Gloversville, sister of the bride, was matron of honor in a ruby red velvet gown and a matching Dior bow headpiece with bouffant veiling. The gown, worn over taffeta, was designed with a fitted bodice adorned with venise lace re-embroidery, puffed sleeves and a soft, A-line skirt. She carried a semi-cascade bouquet of pink Elegance carnations.
Richard Sommese of Hopewell Junction, Dutchess County, was best man. Ushers were Salvatore Licciardi and Donald Lampman, both of Johnstown.
A reception for 90 was held at the Johnstown Motor Inn after the ceremony with music provided by Ralph Gardner and his orchestra. Guests attending were from Gloversville, Johnstown, Tribes Hill, Poughkeepsie, New Hartford and New Jersey.
For the wedding trip to the Catskills, the bride chose a pale coral sculptured pant suit, silver accessories and a corsage of coral roses. The couple will reside at a trailer park in Wappingers Falls, Dutchess County.
Attendants were presented gifts at a rehearsal dinner at the inn Thursday night. The bride was honored at two pre-nuptials showers. One was given at the home of Mrs. Hazel Batty, 86 Oakland Avenue, with the matron of honor and Mrs. Jane Cerrone assisting. The bride, a 1967 graduate of Mayfield Central School, attended State University at Potsdam and was graduated in 1970 from Fulton-Montgomery Community College with a degree in business administration.

PVT. WALTER SHULTS, AGED 34, IS MISSING IN GERMANY
Pvt Walter Shults, aged 34, has been reported missing in action in Germany since. December 6, according
to a War Department telegram received by his wife, Mrs. Anna Shults, 309 Parkwnod avenue.
Private Shults. who is a native of Johnstown, entered the U. S. Army on April 21. 1944 He reported at Camp Upton and received his basic and other training in the infantry at Camp Croft, S. C.
Late In the Summer, he was transferred to Fort Meade. Md. and early in October Mrs. Shults received word that he had arrived safely somewhere in England. He Was stationed there until late in November, when he was transferred to France.
Early thia month Mrs Shults received a letter from Private Shults, which was dated November 20 In the letter he set forth that he had been with an outfit which had Been through France, Belgium and Holland He also told her the letter w u being written in Germany.
Mrs. Shults also said that from information she received through her husbands letters, he couldn't have been in the combat area inside Germany for any length of time before he was reported missing in action. Relatives have expressed their belief he may be a prisoner of war There is also the possibility, it was pointed out, that he became separated from his company and in the confusion was listed as missing.
Private Shults was born and has always resided in Johnstown. Prior to entering the army he was employed
at Bormana Sportswear. Inc.

Walter Shults, 38, POW During War, Dies in Hospital
Was Confined in Army Hospital Year After Return to the States
Walter Shults, aged 38. who earned the Purple Heart and was a prisoner of war of the Germans for six months during World War II died Friday afternoon at 4:30 in the Llttauer hospital to which he was admitted at 8 A. M. that day after suffering a slight stroke and internal hemorrhages.
His health was affected by the imprisonment as a POW and he was confined to Army hospitals nearly a year after his return to the states May 10, 1945.
Mr. Shults, who resided at 304 North Market street, was born August 28, 1910 in Johnstown, son of Edward and Libbie (Weaver) Shults.
He entered the Army April 24, 1944 and received his basic training at Spartansburg, S. C. Pfc Shults went overseas on October 12 of that year and served In Germany with the 334th Infantry, 84th Division. A rifle marksman, he saw action In Rhineland battles and was captured and confined as a prisoner of war for six months in a camp near Bremen.
In addition to the Purple Hearthe received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service medal with two bronze stars, Good Conduct medal, combat infantryman badge and World War 2 victory medal.
He was given his honorable discharge from ths Army at Fort McPherson, Georgia, April 13, 1948,
He was a member of the Reformed church of this city, the Gloversvllle Eagles aerie and Glen Grange. He was a former member of the Glen Reformed church, where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. His last place of employment was Borman Sportswear, Inc.
The survivors, besides his wife, Anna (Morford) Shults, are a daughter, Ruth Esther; son. Robert Lloyd; five sisters, Mrs. Clarence Lake of Caroga Lake, Mrs. Frank Pfliegl of Gloversvllle. Mrs. Viola Ford and Mrs. John Ward of Johnstown and Mrs. Leo Simons of Altken, S. C; two brothers. Raymond, of Amsterdam, and Harold, of Johnstown, also several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 at the Cole funeral home. The Rev. Chester A. Wing of the Reformed church officiated assisted bv the Rev. J. E. Burggraaff of Watervhet.
The bearers were Frank Mac Gregor, Everett Conroy, Elmore Sigbee and Willard Vrooman.

Mrs. Isabel Tuttle, 60, of 15 Third Street, died early this morning at Littauer Hospital after an illness of several years. She was born Feb. 2, 1911, in the Town of Ephratah and had resided in Gloversville the last 42 years.
Mrs. Tuttle had been employed by Crescendoe Gloves in Johnstown before her retirement. She was a member of Fremont Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charles G. Tuttle Sr.; four sons, Charles Tuttle Jr. of Rutherford, R.I., Harold Tuttle of Gloversville, Richard Tuttle of Walden (Orange County) and Stanley Tuttle of Huntington Beach, Calif.
Three daughters, Mrs. Donald Clifford and Mrs. Stewart Seager, both of Gloversville, and Mrs. Arthur Jellie of Charlestown, N. H.; 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Clair E. Carpenter by candlelight in the First Methodist Church in a setting of Eastor lillies. Mrs. Marcella Van Deusen played the wedding music.
The bride, given in marriage by her uncle. David Cool, wore a gown of white chiffon embroidered tulle over taffeta. The bodice was designed with a dropped waistline, square neckline, and long pointed sleeves. The bouffant skirt ended in a chapel length train. Her head piece was a matching seed pearl pillbox cap caught to a ballerina length veil of English imported illusion. She carried a Colonial bouquet of white carnations and pink rose buds.
Miss Joan Staley of Johnstown, the maid of honor, wore a pink lace ballerina length gown with matching headpiece. She carried a Colonial bouquet of pink carnations.
David Van Slyke, brother of the bride. was best man. The ushers were Edward Donnan of Johnstown and Ward Walsh of Fultonville, brother-in-law of the bridegroom.
The bride's mother wore a light blue sheath dress with bolero jacket and beige accessories and a corsage of white carnations. The mother of the bridegroom wore a flower print dress with white accessories and a corsage of white carnation.
A reception was held in the hall of the church when the couple cut a three-tiered wedding cake. Later they left on aTrip to Washington D. C. and upon their return will reside at 108 East Clinton Street.
The bride wore for going away a light blue walking suit with beige accessories and a white carnation corsage.
The bride was graduated from Johnstown High School and is employed at Sutton's Glove factory. The bridegroom attended the Amsterdam schools and is employed by Kasson & Keller in Fonda.

Roy Van Slyke. 54, of 9 Franklin Street, died at 5 yesterday morning at Albany Veterans Hospital. He had been a patient there, intermittently for the last 15 months.
He was born Dec. 29, 1909, in the Town of Ephratah, the the son of Mrs. Adeline Weaver Van Slyke of Johns town, and the late Dorn R. Van Slyke.
He was married to the former Edna M. Perry in Broadalbin Oct. 10, 1958. She survives.
Mr. Van Slyke entered the Army, Sept 22, 1942, and was a member of Battery B. 592nd Field Artillery. He served in the European Theater of Operations from November, 1944 to September, 1945, and was honorably discharged in October, 1945.
He was employed at the Johnstown Tanning Company, retiring in February1963 because of ill health. He was a member of local 1712, United Tannery Workers Union
Survivors in assition to his wife and mother are three daughters, Mrs. Gene Steele and Miss Roylene Van Slyke, both of Gloversville and Mrs. Richard Bentley of Johnstown; teo sons, Francis Van Slyke of Los Angeles, Calif., and Richard Van Slyke of Sammonsville, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Alvina Mosher of Gloversville, one sister, Mrs. Agnes Chamberlain of Johnstown; also nine grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Miss Dawn Van Slyke, sister of the bridegroom, was the maid of honor and she wore a gown of blue taffeta. The bridesmaids were Ida Beekman and Jeanette Van Slyke, sister of the bridegroom.
The best man was Reynolds Malley and the ushers were William Galway and Stanley St. Louis.
A reception was held at the Moose Home.
Mr. and Mrs. Van Slyke will reside at 8 John Street, Johnstown.
