 - Obituary (The Morning Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Saturday, May 27, 1933)
  ST. JOHNSVILLE—Mrs. Mary Cromer Smith, 61, wife of Charles Smith of the town of Oppenheim, died Thursday evening at 9 in the Little Falls hospital, in which institution she had been a patient for a bout two weeks. Death was from a complication of diseases.
   Mary Cromer was born on August 25, 1871, daughter of James Cromer, and spent her early life in Lassellsville. She attended the Lutheran church.
   Surviving, besides the husband, are the father, James Cromer, of Utica, and three brothers, Edward, Charles and David, all of whom reside near this village; two stepsons and two stepdaughters, Jacob Smith of this village, Wesley of Oppenheim, and Mrs. Ruth Luft and Mrs. Fred Cretser, both of this village.
   The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon, at 1 at the home in Oppenheim, and at 2 at St. Paul's Lutheran church in this village with the Rev. George H. Kling, pastor of the church, officiating. Services will be on standard time. Interment will be made in Prospect View cemetery, here.

  Charles Wesley Smith, 89, died last night at his home in St. Johnsville after an illness of several
months. He was bom In Hessville in the Town of Minden April 18, 1859, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Smith. He had spent all his life in St. Johnsville and vicinity, following the occupation of farming. He was a member of the Grace Congregational Christian church.
  The survivors are two sons Jacob F. and Wesley D Smith of St. Johnsville; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Kretser or West St. Johnsville and Mrs. John Nash of St. Johnsville, also several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Nash, 49 Monroe street extension. The Rev. Roland C. Updyke of the Grace church will officiate. The body will be placed In the St. Johnsville cemetery vault,

  On Monday noon at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Frank Stock in North Bush, occurred the marriage of Miss Mary Cromer of Green Lake and Charles W. Smith of St, Johnsville. The ceremony which was a beautiful and quiet one was performed by the Rev. Delos C Haven. Only a few of the intimate friends and relatives of the couple were present. After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served, and the happy couple left on their honeymoon for the east.

  Charles Cromer, aged 76 died yesterday morning about 8:30 in St Mary's hospital Amsterdam. where he had been a patient for about three and one-half weeks.
  He was born at Scotch Bush August, 15, 1874 son of James Cromer and Margaret (Webster) Cromer. He was married August 18, 1900 to Mary Fountain.
  After about twenty-five years spent in farming near St. Johnsville he moved to Canajoharie where he was employed by the village Water Works department. Twelve years ago he retired from that job and came to Johnstown where he resided with a son. Myron Cromer, in Linden avenue. Six months ago he returned to Canajoharie where he had since lived with a daughter, Mrs. Etta Whitbeck.
  He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, St Johnsville.
  The survivors are three sons, Clarence C and Myron, Johnstown, and Harvey Cromer, Gloversville; three daughters, Mrs. Whitbeck, Canajoharie, Mrs, Beatrice Ovitt, Johnstown and Mrs Mabel Hasfurier, Amsterdam, one brother, Daniel Cromer, Herkimer, his stepmother, Mrs Elisabeth Cromer, Utica , three half-sisters one half-brother, residing in Utica, twentyone grandchildren, thirteen greatgrandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.
  Friends may call at the Wassung-Brown A Ehle Funeral Home until this afternoon when  the body will be taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Whitbeck, 77 Mohawk street. Canajoharie where the funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 The Rev Wilmer M. Zuehike. pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, this city, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Canajoharie Falls cemetery.

 - Obituary (The Evening Recorder, Amsterdam, NY, Tuesday, November 14, 1961)
     Mrs. Mary M. Moyer, 74, a former resident of St. Johnsville. died at 11:30 Sunday night at the Johnstown nursing home, where she had been a patient four years. She had been in ill health for about six years.
  After moving from St. Johnsville, she lived at 102 East Main St., Johnstown. She was the widow of Lester Moyer.
Mrs. Moyer was born in Hope Falls on Jan. 13; 1887, the daughter of Dwell and Jennie Williams Fountain. She was a glove worker and was last employed by the Miller Glove Co. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Johnsville.
  Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Jewett Whitbeck of Canajoharie, Mrs. John Hassfurter of Hagaman and Mrs. Albert Ovitt of Johnstown; three sons. C. C. Cromer of Johnstown. Myron Cromer of Gloversville and Harvey Cromer of  Perth: one brother. Michael Mahar of Johnstown; 24 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and two nieces.

 - Obituary (St Johnsville Enterprise and Newa, NY, December 19, 1917)
  Seymour Cromer, aged nine years, died Saturday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cromer, on Sanders street after a short illness of tuberculosis. He was a bright little boy and well liked in the Grammar School; where he was a pupil. Besides the parents three sisters and two brothers survive. The funeral was held from the home at one o’clock this afternoon, with the Rev. Dr. B. E. Fake of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiating. The remains were placed in the receiving vault in Prospect View Cemetery.

  Wallace Clark died very suddenly Tuesday evening ar his residence on the Eli Claus farm, in Oppenheim. He had been afflicted for several years with weakness of the heart. He is survived by his widow, a daughter of James Cromer and four children. He was intending to exchange with the opening of the new year, the occupancy of the Claus farm for that of the D. R. Youker farm.

 - Newspaper Article (Utica Herald-Dispatch, NY, Monday, June 12, 1911)
  St. Johnsville, June 12 - The body of of Wallace Clark was recovered from the Erie Canal Saturday evening near the George Sager farm. The deceased was 15 years of age and had been employed by George Place of the South Side grocery. He had been missing since Wednesday evening when he borrowed a bicycle from his employer and started on the towpath to practice riding between here and Mindenville. The boy was alone and it is supposed he fell into the canal canal. His hat was found in the canal near the lock at Mindenville Friday evening, and the bicycle was also found In the waterway. Parties then started dragging the canal and continued until the body was found. Dr. C. C Vedder with Coroner Wessells of Canajoharie were called In the case.
  The victim of the drowning is survived by his mother, Mrs. Frank Stock of Caroga. which is near Canada Lake. The remains were taken in charge by Undertaker Gammond.

  GLOVERSVILLE - Funeral services for David Clark, 68, of Meco, who died yesterday at Littauer Hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Cole Funeral Home, Johnstown, by the Rev. Joseph Beatty.
  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery.
  Mr. Clark was born Feb. 8, 1904, in the Town of Oppenheim and was a lifelong resident of the county. He was employed by the Town of Johnstown Highway Department until retiring serveral years ago.
  He served in the Army in World War II, from Aug. 28, 1942, to April 20, 1943.
  Survivors are two stepbrothers, Roy Stock and Howard Stock, both of North Bush, and several cousins.

  Mrs. Ora Clark. 85, of the Farm-to-Market Road, West of Johnstown in the Town of Johnstown, died at 1:15 this morning in the Johnstown Hospital where she had been a patient six days. She had been in failing health several years.
  A lifelong resident of Fulton County, she was born March 6, 1900 in the Town of Johnstown, daughter of Nathan and Jane Martin Baum
  She was last employed as a home worker by the Grandoe Glove Corporation of Gloversville.
  The survivors, besides her husband, David Clark, are four daughters, Mrs. Hilda Christman, Mrs. Jeanette Smith and Mrs. Juanita McCarthy, all of Fort Plain RD3, and Mrs. Dorothy Bohnaker of Brooklyn; one son, Fred Christman of Johnstown RD 1, 13 grandchildren ant two great-grandchildren.

  A lifelong Town of Carojca resident, he was a self-employed farmer and woodsman and as a sportsman, actively participating in hunting and fishing until this year.

  Mrs. Josephine Fisher, 79, of 1026 Albany St., died November 23 in St Eliiabeth's Hospital.
  She was bom in St Johnsvllle, NY a daughter of James and Elizabeth (Cook) Cromer. Mrs Fisher came to the Utica area as a young girl and in 1921 was married to John Henry Fisher. He died in 1954 She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
  Mrs. Fisher is survived by four daughters, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Exline, Mrs. Jenny Wagner, Mrs. Shirley Hyde and Mrs John (Rose) Thayer, all ot Utica; two sons. John and Richard, also both of Utica; two sisters, Mrs Ada Knapp and Mrs. Nellie Fusco, both of New York Mills one brother. John Cromer of Utica; 21 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchilren.
  The funeral will be held Saturday from the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. and from Grace Episcopal Church at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Visitation is today only 2-4 and 7-9. Arrangements by the Eannace Funeral Home. Inc.. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave.

  John L Fisher, 59. of 1026 Albany St. Utica. died Friday, July 13. 1984 in St. Elizabeth Hospital.
  He was born November 14, 1924, in Utica. the son of the late John Henry and Josephine Cromer Fisher and was educated in local schools. Mr. Fisher was employed by ARC and was a member of the East and West Utica Boys (?) Clubs for many years.
  Surviving Mr. Fisher are four sisters and one brother. Mrs Jennie Wagner, with whom he resided; Richard Fisher of Utica. Mrs. John (Rosemary) Thayer of Boonville, Ms. Shirley Hyde and Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Exline, both of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephew and one great-great-niece.
  Funeral services will be at the convenience of the Family. Cremation was in Waterville. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Kirkland.

John Henry Wagner and his wife, JoAnn, and Leonard Wagner, and his fiancee, Lori Coons; 21 grandchildren: two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Exline; Sr., Mrs. Shirley Hyde. Mrs. John (Rose) Thayer; one brother. Richard Fisher; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
  She was predeceased by her husband, George Looman.

Luke's Memorial Hospital.
  She was born in the the Town of Oppenheim, the daughter of James and Elisabeth Cook Cromer, and came to Utica as a young girl with her family. In 1923 she was married to Fred Knapp. Mr. Knapp died in 1967. Mrs. Knapp was employed by the Hotel Utica, until her retirement in 1968. She is a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Utica.
  Mrs. Knapp is survived by four daughters, Mrs. John (Helen) Lachut, of Boca Raton, FL, Mrs. Donald (Dorcas) Owens, of Sauquoit, Mrs. Donald (Beverly) Harris of Bridgewater, and Mrs. James (Muriel) Sacsesny, of Rochester, two sons, Fred Knapp Jr., of Rockledge FL. and Robert Knapp, of Utica; a sister Mrs. Nettie Fusco, ov New York Mills, and a brother, John Cromer, of Utica; 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.
  The funeral will be Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at The Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home ar Friday, 2-4 and 7-9.
  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabeties Association.

  Dorcas M. Owens,92, of Rome, passed away Peacefully, on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 in her home and is now reunited with her husband of 59 years, Donald Owens, Sr.
  She was born on June 7, 1928, in Utica, and was the second daughter of the late Fred and Ada Knapp. She attended Utica Public Schools and briefly worked for General Electric in the 1960’s. Dorcas married the love of her life, Don, on November 16, 1946, in Utica. They moved to Frankfort Hill in 1964, where they lived for the next 50+ years. They shared eight children, 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, a point of great pride for her.
  She loved to gamble and play BINGO. She was a regular visitor to Turning Stone Casino and Yellow Brick Road Casino with her daughters. Dorcas and her husband took several cross-county road trips after his retirement from the F.X. Matt Brewing Company. She was also an avid reader and loved to watch The Price is Right. Dorcas never missed a family gathering, birthday party, wedding, or graduation, and loved to sit and chat with everyone. She had an infectious laugh that was easily recognizable to those who knew her.
  Dorcas is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Patricia and Sam Edwards, of Frankfort, May Lou and Tom Putch, of Ilion, Donald Jr. and Sandra Owens, of Clinton, Jacqueline Owens, of Rome, John and Linda Owens of San Diego, CA, Nancy Gardner, of Rome, Brian and Heather Owens, of Barneveld, and Wendy Owens, of New York Mills; her beloved grandchildren, Mary Ann Valente, Donald Owens III, Samuel Edwards, Christopher Hryb, Tamara Billard, David Edwards, Stephen Hryb, John Owens, Andrea Marx, Lisa Pepe, Kristen Putch, Vanessa Jarrell and Lauren Owens, as well as her great-grandchildren; her sister Beverly Harris, of Bridgewater; her brother-in-law, Arnold Owens, of Cassville and her nieces and nephews.
  In addition to her husband and her parents, she was also predeceased by her sisters and brothers and their spouses, Helen and Johnny Lachut, Fred and Delores Knapp, Robert and Anna Knapp and Muriel and Jim Szczesny.
  Mrs. Owens calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 1 – 2 with a service to be held at 2. Burial will be in Frankfort Hill Cemetery.
  Face masks will be required, social distancing will be enforced and contact tracing will be implemented.

  Mrs. Miles was born in Scotch Bush March 27, 1880. She had been employed in several glove shops and attended the Free Methodist Church in Gloversville and was a former member of that denomination in Scotch Bush.
  The survivors are Mrs. Frank DeNure of St. Johnsville, Emerson and Olin Miles of Scotch Bush, Mrs. Brunt of Gloversville, and Mrs. Eben Herrick of Johnstown; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, also two brothers, Henry Strobeck of Johnstown and a twin brother, William Strobeck of Ft. Plain, and several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon with a prayer service at the home of her son, Emerson Miles, in Scotch Bush and the funeral at 2 p.m. in the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Mr. Thomas of the Gloversville Free Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be made in the Fical Cemetery in Scotch Bush.

  Calvin Travis, 29, garageman, formerly of Utica and Eagle Bay, was killed yesterday in an auto accident near Buffalo, according to word received by relatives in Dolgeville.
  George Schulz, Hamilton, with whom Travis was motoring to California, was reported to be in a Buffalo hospital, seriously injured.
  Word of Travis' death was received by a brother, Walter, Dolgeville, who last night was seeking further details from Buffalo police.
  The two men had started for the Coast Sunday, according to Travis' brother. The only other details received were that the accident occurred at about 6 A. M. and that another car was involved.
  Travis had been employed at the Eagle Bay garage several summers and last summer was the proprietor. For the last two winters he had lived at 1535 Oneida.
  He was born in Ephratah, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ira Travis. Going in Dolgeville as a young man, he was employed there three years in a slipper factory. He left three years ago.
  He leaves another brother, Kenneth, also of Dolgeville, and a sister, Evelyn, Ephratah.
  The funeral will be held Thursday at 1 P. M. from the Moore Funeral Home, Dolgeville.

Mrs. Argersinger was born in Lassellsville on April 28, 1880, a daughter of Leander and Elizabeth Miles, and was married to Gordon Argersinger in 1902. She had spent most of her life in this immediate vicinity.   He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Theodore Wagner and Mrs. Henry Brigeman, both of St. Johnsville; three grandchildren; a great grandchild.

  Mr. Miles married Elizabeth Gray in 1906. She died in 1916. Mr. Miles was a farmer all his
life.

  Miss Mary Miles, 24 1-2 South Perry street, daughter of Fred Miles, of Lassellsvllle and Harry Bryant, 8 West Montgomery street, were united in marriage yesterday afternoon at 2, at ths parsonage of the Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. David Paton, pastor performed the ceremony.
  Arthur Wheadon, cousin of the bridegroom and Miss Margaret Moulton were the attendants.
  The bride was gowned in green organdie with accessories to match and she carried yellow roses. Miss Moulton wore a gown of pink organdie with matching accessories and pink roses.
  Following the ceremony the bridal party left for Richmondville where a wedding supper was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orson Smith. Mrs. Smith is a. sister of the bridegroom. The newlyweds plan to leave on a trip to the Thousand Islands later this week. They will reside at 24 1-2 South Perry street.
  The bride's gift to her attendant was a beaded evening bag. The bridegroom presented his best man with a belt and buckle set

  ST. JOHNSVILLE -- Carlton (Carl) Miles, 60, died Sunday afternoon in Little Falls Hospital where he had been admitted early that morning. He had been a resident of the Van Allen Nursing Home in Little Falls for the past three years.
  Mr. Miles was born in Scotch Bush, Town of Ephratah, Dec. 29, 1913, a son of Fred and Elizabeth Gray Miles.
  He was married in April, 1958, to Walty Blovat, of Little Falls, in that city. She died December 11, 1961.
  Mr. Miles had lived in Little Falls since 1958, and was employed by the H. P. Snyder Manufacturing Co. until his retirement because of ill health six years ago.
  He was of the Methodist faith.
  Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Harry (Mabel) Schulenburg, Johnstown; Mrs. Harry (Mary) Bryant, Johnstown; Mrs. Dorothy Richardson, Amsterdam, and Mrs. Howard (Elizabeth) Miles, St. Johnsville RD 1; one brother-in-law, Edward Blovat, in Florida, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Walter (Mary) Hopper, Johnstown; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the H. C. Smith Funeral Home, St. Johnsville, with the Rev. William Davis, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be later in Polish National Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Herkimer.
  Calling hours at the H. C. Smith Funeral Home are today from 7 to 9, and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
