Near Porterville, on April 30, 1952, William James Getman, 79, native of Minnesota; beloved husband of Mrs. Clara B Getman; loving father of Mrs Elva Ashworth; adored brother of Alfred Getman, Mrs. Emma Winsor and Mrs. Edith Weston. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2pm Friday at the Myers Chapel with Dr. J. E. Robinson, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Funeral Services are pending at the Myers Chapel for William James Getman, 79, Rt 5 box 101, who passed away at his home this morning.
Mr. Getman, a native of Eyota Minn., had been a rancher in this area since 1923. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Arlington SD.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara B Getman; a daughter Mrs Elva Ashworth of Grants Pass, Ore; a brother, Alfred Getman of Fairfax Okla; and by two sisters, Mrs Emma Winsor of Sebastapol, and Mrs Edith Weston of Stroud Okla. Funeral services for William J Getman were held Friday afternoon at the Myers Chapel with the Rev JE Robinson officiating.
Carmel McIntyre sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Catharine Frame as organ accompanist.
Casket bearers were Harry Wilcox, Les Ridgeway, William Young, Ray Kincaide, Darrell Byers and Joe Kieffer. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Surviving Mr Getman are his wife, Clara B Getman; one daughter Mrs Elva Ashworth of Grants Pass Ore., formerly of Tulare; one brother, Alfred GEtman of Fairfax Okla; and two sisters, Mrs Emma Winsor of Sebastopol and Mrs. Edith Weston of Stroud Okla. (From the Porterville Evening Recorder, Sat May 3, 1952)- I believe that William J Getman was first married to Alice Troutman in Olmsted Co MN. I have yet to find a death record for Alice or a marriage record for Clara and William Getman. William and Clara lived in Alberta, Canada about 1913 and I have family postcards addressed to them from their nieces, Hazel and Carrie Winsor. (Colleen Lill)

"Charles Getman worked as a blacksmith in Rowley, Alberta Canada but the winters were cold there and they decided to move back to the States, seeking a location where the weather was more mild. He worked as a blacksmith in the ship yards in Vancouver WA where they moved in 1919. However, he contracted pleural pneumonia and died there the following year." In spite of all her struggles, Nettie was a wonderful person and had the respect of her children."
