  PALATINE BRIDGE - Mrs. Ada A. Nellis, 74, widow of Amos Nellis, died early this morning at her home at 154 West Grand St., Palatine Bridge.
  Born Nov. 22, 1883 in Ephratah, she was a daughter of Anderson and Amy Wood Allen.
  Mrs. Nellis had lived in Palatine Bridge the past 57 years. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Canajoharie, and its Ladies Aid Society. She was also a member of Fort Rensselaer Chapter, DAR, Canajoharie, the Montgomery County Historical Society and the Palatine Literary Society.
  Survivors include one son. Allen Nellis. Miami. Fla., three daughters, Mrs. Edith Hammer and Mrs. Darwin Shuler, of Palatine Bridge, and Mrs. A. B. Waffle, Fort Plain, three grandchildren one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the family home in Palatine Bridge with the Rev. Theodore Hammer, pastor of St. Mark's Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Obituary (Evening Recortder, Amsterdam, NY, Tuesday, January 26, 1943)
  Canajoharie - Amos E. Nellis, 65, lifelong resident of the Town of Palatine, died early this morning at his home in Palatine Bridge. He had been ill of pneumonia for about two weeks. Born July 1, 1877, in the Town of Palatine, a son of Peter and Mary C. Saltsman Nellis, be had lived in Palatine Bridge for 42 years, following the occupation of farming. Mr. Nellls was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Palatine Union Grange and had served as justice of the peace of the Town of Palatine for a number of years. He was also a member of the Montgomery County Peace Officers' Association.
  The survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ada Allen Nellls; three daughters, Mrs. Edith Hammer, Miss Hilda Nellis, Palatine Bridge, and Mrs. Alva B. Waffle, Fort Plain; one son, Allen, who is with the U. S. Army; a grandson, Jack Waffle, Fort Plain; a granddaughter, Mrs. Russell Alter, Canajoharie; a greatgranddaughter, Bonnie Lee Alter, Canajoharie; one brother, John D. Nellis, Fort Plain; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Klock. St, Johnsville, and Mrs. John C. Kilts, Fort Plain; also nieces and nephews.
  The, funeral will be held at the home Friday at 2:30 P. M., the Rev. Frank H. Shimer, pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Plain Cemetery.

  Canajoharie - Mr. and Mrs. Amos E. Nellls were pleasantly surprised Thursday evening when about 80 relatives and friends gathered at their home in Palatine Bridge to help celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
  Seasonal flowers decorated the house and a large wedding cake formed the center of attraction in the dining room. Guesst were from Canajoharie. Fort Plain, St. Johnsville and Johnstown.
  Miss Ada Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Allen, Stone Arabia, became the bride of Amos E. Nellls, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter I. Nellls, Town of Palatine on October 10, 1900. The Rev. Frederick Dutcher, pastor of the Stone Arabia Lutheran Church, performed the ceremony. Attendants at the wedding, both of whom were among the guests Thursday evening, were Miss Mabel Allen, Johnstown, sister of the bride, and John England, present supervisor of the Town of Palatine.
  Following the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Nellis made their home where they now reside. Both active members of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Mr. Nellis, former clerk of the Town of Palatine, is now justice of the peace.

  ST. JOHNSVILLE—Mrs. Anna Nellis, 64, died at her home at 35 Center St., St. Johnsville, Sunday evening following a long illness.
  Born in the Town of Oppenheim, Jan. 1, 1894, she was a daughter of Carrie Weaver and Edwin Flanders.
  For 30 years Mrs. Nellis and her husband lived at the Nellis homestead, Town of Palatine, and the past 12 years had lived in St. Johnsville.
  She was married to Carl J. Nellis Sept. 20, 1916.
  Mrs. Nellis was a member of Grace Congregational Christian Church, was a Sunday School teacher for many years and was assistant director of the Junior Choir. She was also vice president of the Women's Fellowship of the church and had been active in church work all her life.
  She was a member of the King's Daughters Society, the Community Club and the Ladies' Aid of the old Palatine Church.
  Survivors besides her husband include one son, Donald E. Nellis, St. Johnsville: two daughters, Mrs. Leslie Rockefeller, St. Johnsville, and Mrs. Dean Radley, Fayetteville; one sister, Mrs. Karl Vahret, Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, George Flanders. St. Johnsville; five grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Lull Funeral home. St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Bertram A. Walton, pastor of Grace Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.
  Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience. Members of the Women's Fellowship of Grace Church will visit the funeral home at 8 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to a memorial fund for Grace Congregational Christian Church. Donations cap be left under the care of the Rev. Mr. Walton.


Marriage Notes for Carl John Nellis and Anna Mae Flanders

 - 40th Anniversary (The Leader Herald, Gloversville and Johonstown, NY, Saturday, September 22, 1956)
  Mr. and Mrs Carl J. Nellis, St. Johnsville, observed their 40th wedding anniversary Thursday. They were married by the late Rev. Elmer J. Flanders of the Lutheran Church, New York City, an uncle of the bride. He was assisted by the late Rev. H W. McCrone, pastor of the Grace Congregational Church. The ceremony took place in the Grace Church with Mrs. Saltsman. sister of the bridegroom and the late Alton Flandersm brother of the bride, as attendants.
  Mrs. Nellis is the former Miss Anna Flanders, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Flanders, St. Johnsville. They have been members of the Grace Congregational Church for over 30 years.
  She belongs to the Ladies' Aid Society of the Palatine Lutheran Church and is affiliated with the King's Daughters and the Commmunity Club, St. Johnsville. He belongs to the Mens Club of the Grace Church and is employed by W. H. Lenz &  Son.
  They have three children: Mrs. Leslie Rockefeller, St. Johnsville: Mrs. Dean Radley, Fayetteville and Donald. St. Johnsville RD. They were entertained at a dinner party Thursday night at Union Hall, Johnstown, given them by Mr. and Mrs. Rockefeller and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Nellis. They received many cards, gifts and flowers.

 - 50th Anniversary (Schenectady Gazette, NY, Tuesday, Oct 14, 1969)
  Mr. and Mrs. Adin A. Nellis of Fort Plain recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a family dinner in the home of their son and daughter-in-law Mr.-and-Mrs.-John Robert Nellis, also of Fort Plain.
  Adin Nellis of St. Johnsville and the former Ella Mae Settle of Cobleskill were married on Sept. 17, 1919, at the bride's home. Their attendants were Myron Meliek and Miss Loreaine Settle, who was maid of honor for her sister. Bridesmaids were Miss Sarah VanWagenen, Miss Lorraine VanWagenen and Miss Anna Hutton, all of Lawyersville.
  The couple has three children and four grandchildren. Their children are Adin Nellis Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., John Robert Nellis and Mrs. J. Ogden Bellinger of St. Johnsville.
  The Nellises have been engaged in farming in the Dutchtown section of the Town of Minden since their marriage.

Marriage Notes for Leta Mae Nellis and Wilbur Adam Saltsman

 - Wedding Announcement (The Morning Herlad, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Tuesday, September 3, 1918)
  Miss Leta Mae Nellis. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Nellis, who reside on the new turnpike east of St. Johnsvllle, and Wilbur A. Saltsman, son of Adam Saltsman of East Main street, were united in marriage Saturday evening at the home of the bride's parents, in the presence of nearly two hundred friends and relatives. The ceremony was performed by Rev. L. F. Wagschal, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran church of Stone Arabia, and the bridal couple was attended by Miss Crystal Saltsman as maid of honor, and Adin Nellis, a brother of the bride, acted as best man.
  The bridesmaids were Miss Marion Nellis of Palantine Bridge, a cousin of the bride and Miss Harriet Jencks of St. Johnsvllle. Miss Edna Squires of Johnstown acted as flower girl and Ralph Saltsman of St. Johnsvllle was the ring bearer, carrying the gold band in the center of a latge white aster. The ushers were Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Nellis, the former being a brother of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Saltsman, the former a brother of the groom. They formed an aisle of ribbons through which the other members of the bridal party passed.
  The bride wore a white satin gown, trimmed with Georgette crepe and tulle. She carried a shower bouquet of bridal roses. The maid of honor was attractively gowned with white Georgette crepe with bead trimming and carried sweet peas. The bridesmaids wore white asters.
  Hambrecht's orchestra of Canajoharie rendered musical selections and during, the ceremony Mrs. L. F. Wagschal of Stone Arabia, sang "Oh Promise Me." At the conclusion of the ceremony a wedding supper was served under the direction of Mrs. Fred Skinner, caterer of F6rt Plain. The newlyweds left for a wedding trip to Buffalo and Niagara Falls. On their return they will take up their residence in Fort Plain.
  The bride is a highly popular and esteemed young resident of her home community and was remembered with a large and costly array of beautiful wedding gifts. The groom, who has been employed as bookkeeper at the Edgar W. Starr mill in Gloversvllle, has a host of friends in the Glove cities who will extend congratulations and best wishes.

  PALATINE BRIDGE - Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Saltsman, Palatine Bridge RD, observed their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at their home recently when they were honored by 130 relatives and friends.
  Mrs. Saltsman, the former Leta Mae Nellis, and Wilbur Saltsman were married at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Nellis, Town of Palatine on Aug. 31, 1918. The Rev. Louis Wagschal, then pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. and Mrs. Wagschal, now residents of Laurens, attended the anniversary observance. Mr. and Mrs. Saltsman have one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Charlotte) Walts, and two grandchildren, Nancy and Tommy Walts of Palatine Bridge.  
   They are lifelong members of Trinity Lutheran Church where Mrs. Saltsman was organist for many years, an active member of the Ladies society. They are members and former officers of Stone Arabia
Grange.
  They have lived on their home diary farm which Mr. Saltsman operated more than 40 years before he retired.
  Mrs. Saltsman received a gold throat orchid corsage and her husband a gold mum boutonniere Sunday, and their home was decorated with flower arrangements from their guests. John Farrow of Little Falls played organ music during the afternoon and Mrs. Herman Fredericks, Fort Plain, RD. sang several solos, including a vocal skit, "Memories of the Courtship."
