RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Wallace Getman, 91, of 10 Elm St., who trained race horses and operated a sales stable here, died Wednesday in a Utica hospital.
Born in Mohawk, he attended the old West Winfield Academy. He married Hattie A. Backus in 1898. She died a number of years ago.
He managed the Stone Store and post office in East Winfield many years ago, later residing in Columbia and West Winfield, where he had one of the first car liveries. He was a member
of the Exempt Firemen’s Assn.
Surviving are two daughters, Miss Alice Getman. with whom he resided, and Mrs. Chester Bennett, of Moravia.
Services will be 1 p.m. tomorrow from the Wilcox Funeral Home, West Winfield, with burial in East Winfield Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight

Mrs. Hattie A. Getman, 87, of 12 Elm Street, a former school teacher in the West Winfield area, died Thursday, April 18 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chester Bennett of Skaneateles R.D. 1, following a long illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Horace A. del Pozzo, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in the East Winfield Cemetery.
Mrs. Getman was born September 1, 1875, at Barstow's Corners in the Town of Richfield, daughter of Henry and Maria I Ely Backus. She was married to Wallace Getman of Columbia in June of 1898. She attended the West Winfield Academy and taught for several years in the West Winfield area. She first lived at East Winfield where Mr. Getman operated the Old Stone General Store and later operated a similar store in Stockwell. Later they returned to the Getman homestead at Columbia and Mr. Getman maintained a cattle and auto sales at West Winfield. In 1920 she moved to her present home at Richfield Springs where Mr. Getman operated a harness shop. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and its Philathea Union. Surviving are her husband and two daughters, Miss Alice Getman of Richfield Springs and Mrs. Bennett, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Arthur Hopkinson, 93, died in Danbury, Conn., on Saturday, October 14, following a long period of declining health.
Elizabeth C. Frear was born in the Town of Litchfield on June 18, 1879, a daughter of Sumner and Agnes J. Roberts Frear. She attended schools in West Winfield and married Alvin Getman in Millers Mills where he operated a farm. He died in 1908 and in 1917 she married Arthur Hopkinson of South Columbia. They lived in South Columbia where Mr. Hopkinson operated a farm and a general store. He died in 1963 and Mrs. Hopkinson went to Danbury, Conn., to live with her daughter, Mrs. Everett Seidel.
Mrs. Hopkinson was the oldest living member of the Millers Mills Baptist Church.
Besides her daughter she is survived by two stepsons, Harold and Leon Hopkinson of Richfield Springs.
Her funeral was held October 17 from the McGrath Funeral Home. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs, N.Y.

Mrs. Bertha E. Getman, 90, formerly of 272 Otsego Street, died yesterday in Folts Methodist Home, Herkimer, where she had lived since 1969. Mrs. Getman was the widow of George B. Getman, president of the former Manufactures National Bank here. She was the oldest living member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was born in the town of Columbia, daughter of Frank and Clara Shaul Myers. She was married to Mr. Getman in 1903. He died in 1954. Mrs. Getman formerly taught school in the town of Columbia. She was a member of the Dorcus Circle of First Presbyterian Church and was a long time member of the D.A.R. She was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Columbia Reformed Church. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Clara E. Carley, Ithaca, and four sons, Buriill M., of Providence, R.I., Frank N., of Darien Conn., Fayette B. of Mobile, Ala., and George H. of Ilion. The funeral will be 11 Wednesday from the Applegate Funeral Home. Burial will be in the spring in Armory Hill Cemetery. Calling Hours are from 7 to 9 tomorrow.

ILION—Services were conducted today from the Applegate Funeral Home for George Burrill Getman. 74, of 272 Otsego St., who died Friday after a long illness.
The Rev. Charles Bartlett, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of which Mr. Getman had long been an active member, officiated and interment was in Armory Hill Cemetery.
Directors of the Manufacturers Bank were honorary bearers. Mr. Getman had been a director of the bank since 1919, retiring last year. Honorary bearers were Arthur Slaughter, Carl K. Betzinger, Clayton Applegate, Floyd Clayton, Floyd Lewis. Ray D. Baker, A. K. McGowan and Edward Bedford.
Active bearers were nephews of Mr. Getman, Tracy Getman, Lynn Getman, Howard Getman. Charles Getman, Ralph Parent and Woodrow Perry.

W. R. MacClenthen. Miss Emma Salisbury, a sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid, and Harrie Myers, the groom's brother, was best man. The bride looked charming in her gown of white silk tulle and carried a handsome bunch of bride roses, edged with ferns, Her maid also wore white and carried pink roses. After the ceremony and congratulations of about 200 friends, a wedding luncheon was served by Caterer Case. The house was very pretilly decorated with autum leaves and flowers by the young frinds of the bride. Amoung eh numerous and costly presents were silver, cut glass, china, linel and considerable money. Mr. Myers is a resident of Cedarville and is a young man of excellent character, while his bride has for several years ben a successful teacher in the Saquoit Union School, where she has won many friends by her attractive manner. About 3 o'clock Mr. and Mrs. Myers left in an elaborately decorated carriage for New York and Brooklyn. Guests were present from Utica, Winfield, Sauquoit, Ilion, chicago and Cedarville.

WEST WINFIELD - Mr. Carlton H (Tubby) Gates, 67, formerly of West Winfield, died April 6, 1980 in Bradenton, Fla.
He was born in the Town of Plainfield. December 29, 1912, son of Harold F. and Stella Hackley Gates. He was wed in 1944 to Beatrice Myers of Bridgewater. He was associated with the Gatesdale Dairy and later operated the Gatesdale Dairy Bar in Bridgewater for a number of years. He was a member of the Federated Church of West Winfield and was chairman of the Building Committee for the New Federated Church building. He was a past member of the Unadilla Forks Fire Company and past president of the West Winfield Rotary Club. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Winfield Medical Center and was a former tax collector for the Town of Plainfield.
Surviving besides his wife is a brother, Arthur H. Gates; two half brothers, Kenneth W. Gates and Edward H Gates; his stepmother, Mrs Marion Reed Gates, all of West Winfield and one step-brother, Robert Reed of Decatur, Illinois.
A memorial service will be held at the Federated Church of West Winfield on Sunday. April 27, at 2p m.The family requests that any so wishing may contribute to the Carlton Gates Memorial Fund of the Federated Church

WEST WINFIELD — Harris J. Myers, 82, of E. Main St., a retired florist, died Saturday in Mohawk Valley General Hospital.
He was born on July 2. 1887 in Cedarville, the son of Frank and Clara Sholes Myers. He attended local schools and was graduated from Ilion High School. He attended Cornell University. He married Edith Cone of in Ilion in 1910.
Four years after their marriage the couple moved to West Winfield, where they operated a grocery store for four years, Then a restaurant and later the florest shop for 10 years. Mr. Myers retired in 1960.
He was a 50 - year member and past master of the Winfield Masonic Lodge, the fererated church, and the West Winfield Rotary.
Besides his widow, he leaves a son, Joseph Myers, Rockville Center, L.I.; three daughters, Mrs Ella M. Wilde and Mrs. Caroline Norton, both of West Winfield, and Mrs. Jayne Hess Lake Placid; a sister Mrs. Bertha Getman, Herkimer; 11 grandchildren and 10 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow from the Wilcox Funeral Home, with the Rev. Arthur Lacey, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Ilion, officiating. Burial will be in Cedarville Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 tonight. Masonic services will be held at 8 tonight.

WEST WINFIELD - Mrs. Edith C. Myers, 87, formerly of West Winfield, died Sunday in the Eden Park Nursing Home, Utica, after a long illness.
She was bom April 24, 1887 in Ilion, the daughter of Tracey and Ellen Kingsbury Cone. She attended schools there and in 1910, she was married to Harris J. Myers. Mr. Myers died July 12,1969.
The couple moved to West Winfield in 1914, where they operated a store, a restaurant, and later a florist shop, retiring in 1960. Mrs Myers had resided in Utica three years.
She leaves one son, Joseph Myers, of Rockville Center; two daughters, Mrs. Caroline Norton, Ithaca, and Mrs. Jayne Hess, Lake Placid, and several grandchildren and great-randchildren.
Funeral services will be tomorrow at the convenience of the family from the Wilcox Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter Hillis, pastor of the Bridgewater Congregational Church, officiating interment will be in Cedarville Cemetery this spring

NORWICH - Arthur Hoke, 67, of 157 south Broad Street, died Thursday night at the Chenango Memoiral Hospital after a short illness. A resident of Norwich for the past five years, he had worked for Ramington Arms for 20 years prior to his retirement one year ago.
Mr. Hoke was born in West Amboy, the son of the late Charles and Clarissa Getman Hoke.
Survivors include his wife, the former Katherine Kreuzer; three sons, Charles F. and Robert J. of Norwich and Arthur F. of Clearwater, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Demoski of Kirkwood and Mrs. Edward J. Garvey of Poughkeepsie; four brothers, C. Willard, Roscoe and Bennett Hoke of Ilion and John of Millers MIlls; a sister, Miss Barbara Hoke, of Ilion and nine grandchildren.
He was married in Herkimer in 1904 and had been a member for many years of Binghamton Lodge, Modern Woodmen of America.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the George J. Devine Funeral Home, the Rev. L. S. Charters rector of Emanuel Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Paul's Cemetery.

A Glen Aubrey grocer died yesterday afternoon in Ideal Hospital, Endicott, after a long illness.
He was Charles F. Hoke, proprietor of the Glen Aubrey Grocery. He was 47 years old.
Born in Herkimer, he lived for a time in Binghamton and later was in the automobile business in Norwich. He had operated the Glen Aubrey store since May 1954.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Katheirne Hoke of Glen Aubrey; two sisters, Mrs. Paul DeMoski of Kirkwood and Mrs. Edward Garvey of Binghamton; two brothers, Robert J. Hoke of Norwich and Arthur Hoke of Glen Aubrey, and several nieces and nephews.

ILION — S. Bennett Hoke, 86, of 167 West St., a toolmaker for Sperry-Rand Company for more than 47 years, died yesterday in his home.
He was bom Nov. 17, 1887 in Amboy, the son of Charles and Clarissa Getman Hoke. He was educated in schools there and married Eva Marie Phillips on Dec. 9,1908 in Ilion.
Mr. Hoke was employed as a toolmaker by Sperry-Rand Company until his retirement in 1957.
He was an active member of Ilion Baptist Church, a 65 year member of Ilion Masonic Lodge No. 591 and a member of Sperry-Rand 25-year Club.
Surviving Mr. Hoke, besides his widow, are a son; Bennett F. Hoke, of Syracuse; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from Applegate Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Koike, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Members of Ilion Masonic Lodge No. 591 will meet at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home for ritualistic services.
