  Matie N. Twitchell, 97, of 5263 Jefferson St., died Monday evening at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, where she had resided since June 13.
  Mrs. Twitchell was a member of the Lowville Baptist Church and a member of the Lowville Baptist Women's Council. She enjoyed gardening.
  Born Aug. 2, 1899, in the town of Harrisburg, daughter of Patrick and Helen Getman Nefsey, she attended Harrisburg rural schools.

  LOWVILLE .— Adelbert Twitchell, 78 of 5482 River St., died Thursday at 5:45 p.m. in Lewis County General Hospital,where he had been a patient six days.
  The funeral will be. Monday at 10 a.m. at the Virkler Funeral Home. Rev. John Von Harten, pastor of the Lowville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in West Lowville Cemetery.
   Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2.to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
  He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Matie Nefsey Twitchell; a daughter, Doris Twitchell, at home; two brothers, Robert, Denmark, Charles, Copenhagen.
  Born at Denmark, Dec. 24, 1895, a son of George and Harriet Hulbert Twitchell, he was employed at the Louis Bush and Sons Feed Mill until he retired in 1969. On June 21, 1917, he married Matie Nefsey in Lowville.
  Mr. Twitchell attended the Nazarehe Church and was a former member of Denmark Grange.

  LOWVILLE — Mrs. Dorothea Allen, 87, Watson, widow of Roy D. Allen, died this morning at 1:55 in the Lewis County Extended Care Facility, where she had been a patient since 1970.
  The funeral will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 at the Virkler Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Chapman, pastor of the Beaver Falls United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in West Lowville Cemetery.
  Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday evening, 7 to 9.
  Mrs: Allen is survived by a son, Gorham Allen, Watson; a sister, Mrs. Alice Graves, Lowville; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
  She was born in the Town of North Martlnsburg Feb. 18, 1889, daughter of Frank
and Amanda Boshart Hall. She married Roy D. Allen June 30, 1915 in the Lowville Methodist Church.
  Mrs. Allen was a practical nurse and did private duty nursing for years. Mr. Allen operated a sand and gravel business in Watson for years and died April 1957.
  The couple had lived all their married lives in Watson.

  Anita Prior Bullard, 84, of County Route 6 died Friday at St. Luke's Health Related Facility, Oswego.
  A life resident of Demster, she was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Syracuse University. She was a grammarian and career teacher and taught English in Canajoharie and Poplar Ridge before retiring as a professor of English at SUNY Oswego after 17 years.
  A philanthopist, she supported many charities, especially those for the education of the less fortunate and protecting animal rights. She was active in the Republican party and supported the New Haven United Methodist Church.
  Surviving are a daughter, Joan Bullard of Los Angeles; and a sister, Kathleen Dale Clark of Liverpool.
  Services are 11 a.m. Monday in New Haven United Methodist Church. Burial is in New Haven Cemetery.
  Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Harter Funeral Home, 5305 Washington Ave., Mexico.

  PETER ETTESEN Peter Ettesen, of 377 Sunset Drive SE died Wednesday evening March 13, 1974 at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital following three weeks of illness. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 1974 in the chapel of St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. T. C. Plexico officiating. Bearers were: Edward Snuping, Salisbury, N.C., Richard Atkinson, Elkin, N.C., Col. John Smith, Wilson, N.C., William Boyette, Warsaw, N.C., Merle Kearns, Mount Olive, N.C., Robert Haywood, Concord, N.C. Manager of Cabarrus Country Club.
  Mr. Ettesen was former owner of the Dania Restaurant. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Salisbury. A native of Maribo, Denmark Mr. Ettesen was born July 17, 1907 son of the late Hans and Mrs. Elsie Nielson Yttesen. Surviving are his widow, Mrs Carmen Getman Ettesen; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce Moss of Winston-Salem and Miss Christina Ettesen of Wilmington; and five sisters and four brothers, all of Denmark. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, N.C. Mrs. Ettesen is formerly of Parish, and the daughter of the late Mary J. Getman.

  Leland O. Getman, 92, of Hannibal, passed away Thursday at home following a brief illness. Leland was born in Palermo, a son to the late, Harland and Alice Getman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanette L. Getman; five sons, Russell (Carol) Getman of Hannibal, Paul (Donna) Getman of Albany, Bruce (Terri) Getman of Chaska, MN, Gary Getman of Wilmington, NC and Mark (Melissa) Getman of Hannibal; one sister, Aleta (William) Huston of Venice, FL; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, at Hannibal United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hannibal Village Cemetery.   Harlan R. Getman, age 86, of Sylvania, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
  He was born March 15, 1923, in Clifford, New York to Harland and Alice Getman. He grew up on a small family dairy farm, the second of three children.
  Harlan attended Cornell University where he majored in Dairy Science/Refrigeration; he left college in 1942 to serve his country in WWII as a Second Lt. in the Army, serving in the European Theatre. He returned to Cornell in 1946 to earn his bachelor's degree, where he graduated with top honors.
  While at the university, a classmate, Arnold Page of Toledo offered Harlan a position as production manager at Page Dairy, initiating his career in the ice cream industry. While in Toledo, Harlan met Bob Vroman with whom he partnered to create an ice cream novelty company known as Vroman Ice Cream. For the next 35 years, Harlan served as vice president and production manager of what came to be known as Vroman Foods, Inc., where he was responsible for the development of the "Chilly Things" brand of ice cream novelties.
  Among his remarkable achievements were 29 U.S. patents for product and machinery, creation of Toledo Frigid Lines, a trucking company that delivered refrigerated product, and The Bakery, Inc., which created cookie products for a variety of ice cream sandwiches.
  In 1986 Vroman Foods was sold to General Mills and Harlan remained as consultant until his retirement in 1989.
  Since retirement, Harlan enjoyed traveling the world with his special companion, Margie Rusgo, furthering his education through Elder Hostels and college classes, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, the former Nancy Dowling who passed away January 11, 1997.
  Surviving are his daughters, Lori (Thodd) VanAllen and Jill (Philip) Turner; grandchildren, Sarah and Ashley Zahn, Kevin and Kristyn VanAllen, and Kimberlee Turner; brother, Leland (Jann) Getman; sister, Aleta (Bill) Huston; 10 nieces and nephews; and very special companion, Margie Rusgo and her entire family.
  Friends and family may visit on Saturday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

  Rev. Morris S. Scriber, 84, formerly of Oswego, died Friday at his home in Clarckson, Monroe County, N.Y. where he had resided for several years. Mr. Scriber was born in Albion August 17, 1860 and was educated at Adrian College, Michigan. He was ordained to the ministry of the Baptist church at Smithfield, N.Y. in 1892. During his active career of nearly 40 years, Mr. Scriber served Baptist churches at Amityville, Lakeville, Constantia Center, Mape Falls (two churches), Camden, Transit and Breesport, his lat charge being at Lancaser, all in New York State. Mr. Scriber made his residence in Oswego for several years. He retired from active ministry in 1931 since which time he had lived in Clarkson, N.Y.
  Mr. Scriber was the father of Arthur J. Scriber, director of the West Baptist church, Oswego, and Mrs. Frederick J. Crandall of this city. Another daughter, Miss Esther Scriber is assistant to the Baptist ministry at the Tonawanda Indian reservation. His wife, Mrs. Sarah Jane Scriber, also survives as do the following; Miss Cassie Scriber, daughter of Clarkson, N.Y., Keith Scriber of Brockport, N.Y., and Olin Scriber of Clarkson, sons D. S. scriber of Pulaski, brother and several grandchildren, including S-Sgt. Calvert Scriber of Oswego, Carroll Scriber of Binghamton; Mrs. Aleida Shur of Oswego; Lawrence, Gweneth and David Scriber of Brockport.
  Funeral services of Mr. Scriber will be held at the Fowler Funeral Home, at Clarkson, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Scriber and Mrs. Fred Crandall left Friday afternoon for Clarkson, and other family members will leave Sunday to attend the funeral Monday.

  Mis. Sarah Jacobson Scriber, 84, widow of the Rev. M. S. Scriber, who had been a minister in the Baptist church for many years, and a former resident at Oswego, died Thursday at the home ot her son, Olan V. Scriber, in Clarkson, N. Y., where she had been residing in recent years.
  She was born in Constantia, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Darius Jacobson, and after her marriage to Mr. Scriber, who served a number of pastorates, lived in Oswego, the family residence being for a number of years in East Fourth street, between East Bridge and Cayuga streets. Mr. Scriber's last charge was at Albion, N. Y., retiring about 10 years ago. His death occurred three years ago, shortly after he and Mrs. Scriber had observed their 60th wedding anniversary.
  She is survived by three daughters, Miss Esther Scriber, Akron, N. Y., Miss Cassie Scriber, Clarkson, N. Y., Mrs. Frederic J. Crandall, Oswego; by three sons, Olan V. Scriber, Clarkson, Keith M. Scriber, Brockport, N. Y., and Arthur J. Scriber, Oswego; by seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.
  Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoom at the Fowlor funeral home,  Brockport, by the Rev. Douglas Manson of Brockport and interment will be made in Maple Lawn cemetery, Dugway, Oswego county.

  A native of Albion, the daughter of the late Rev. Morris and Sarah Jacobson Scriber, she was for 35 years a missionary at the Tonawanda Indian Reservation. Miss Scriber was sent to the reservation from West Baptist church, this city, after graduating from a Baptist Missionary Training school in Chicago.
  Other survivors include another sister, Miss Cassie M. Scriber of Clarkson, and two brothers, Keith Scriber, Brockport and Olin Scriber, Clarkson.
  Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Scoville Funeral Home, the Rev. Artemus P. Goodwin, pastor of West Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dugway cemetery.

  PULASKI- Daniel Scriber, 89, died Thursday at his home in Rome St. He had been in poor health for some time but only seriously ill a short time. He had been a resident of the village or immediate vicinity more than 50 years. He was born in Albion July 25 1863 son of Abraham and Nancy Scriber. In 1883 he married Miss Leona E Williams who died in 1940 . He conducted a large dairy in Albion. He came to Pulaski and was extensively engaged in in raising strawberries. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by two daughters Miss Ida Scriber and Mrs Frederick Mahaffey. Burial in Dugway Cemetery.

  Funeral services for Lena Williams Scriber, who died Saturday morning, after several months illness, were held at the family home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Gardner officiated. Burial was in Dugway cemetery. Lena Williams was born Oct. 2 1864 in Phoenix, N.Y., to Lavinia and Smith Williams. On Mar. 4 1885, she married Daniel S. Scriber, who moved his family to Pulaski, about forty years ago. Mrs. Scriber was an active member of the Pulaski Methodist church and its societies, and also belonged to the Grange, Civic Club, and W.C.T.U. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Miss Ida A. Scriber, and Mrs. Fred G. Mahaffy; and a granddaughter, Betty S. Mahaffy.

  Pulaski - Miss Ida A. Scriber, 76, 0f 7 Rome St., died Friday in the Oswego Hosptial where she had been a patient for the past 15 days. Miss Scriber was born July 10, 1886, in the Town of Albion, daughter of the late Daniel and Lena Williams Scriber and was a retired teacher and school principal. She was a graduate of the training class at the Pulaski Academy and also the Geneseo Normal School. Miss Scriber taught school in Pulaski Academy and in Rochester before going to Mannsville where she served as principal of the high school. She later graduated from Syracuse University and did graduate work at Columbia University, for 27 years she taught history at Hackensack, NJ and retired in 1946 to return to make her home. Miss Scriber was a member of the Park Methodist Church and a past president of it's Women's Society of Christian Service. She was also a past district and conference official in the society. She was a member of the Arethusa Sorority and the Phi Lambda Theta Honory Society of Syracuse University. She was a past president of the Tuesday Study Club and a member of the Civic Club here. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Edith Mahaffy of Pulaski and a niece, Mrs. Charles Briggs of Utica. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. W. Russell Clark, pastor of the Park Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dugway Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Sunday at the Foster Funeral Home.

  George Jacobson, 92, retired town of Parish farmer died at his home in Parish where he spent the last 35 years of his life, early Wednesday morning. His death came about three weeks after he had suffered a stroke.He was the son of David and Naomi Jacobson.
  Mr. Jacobson's survivors are his widow, Mrs Catherine Hughes Jacobs; two daughters, Mrs Harry Flansburg of Cortland and Mrs. John Lewis of Parish; two sons, Jay of Central Square and Roy of Cicero; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
