  Mrs. Charles T. (Lucina) Beeching, Middleville Road, Herkimer, designated Rome's "first lady" in 1945 for her outstanding service to the community, died Sunday in a Utica hospital.
  For 10 years before her retirement in 1960 she had been a case supervisor for the Herkimer County Department of Social Welfare.
  A Rome resident during the 1940s, Mrs. Beeching was selected as "first lady" from nominations by Romans in a program sponsored by Gamma Iota Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
  A one-time case supervisor in the Rome Bureau of Public Welfare, she was also director of the home service department in the Rome Chapter, American Red Cross, and in this capacity worked with thousands of servicemen and their families during World War II. She was also president of the Rome Parent-Teachers City Council and was a member of the Rome Housing Authority.
  Mrs. Beeching's service to the community during the war period was marked by her leadership in obtaining child nurseries for war-working mothers. She worked to gain public support for this project and was largely responsible for obtaining state funds for its operation.
  A native of Herkimer she was graduated from Mt. Holyoke College and did graduate work in the University of Pennsylvania. She was a field worker for the Near East Relief in Turkey after World War I, and was later in charge of an orphanage for American children. From 1933 to 1935 she was a case worker in the Herkimer County Welfare Department.
  She rejoined the department in 1950 and on Feb. 1 of that year was named case supervisor. She had also taught in Herkimer High School for four years.
  The daughter of John and Ida Folts Thompson, she was married to Charles T. Beeching at Key West, Fla., in 1925. They lived in Cuba for three years where Mr. Beeching was employed bv the United States Steel Co. He died in 1949.
  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the New York State conference on Social Work, and the Reformed Church of Herkimer.
  Surviving area son, Charles T. Beeching Jr., Syracuse; a daughter, Mrs. Rosemary Turvey, New York City; a sister, Miss Edna R. Thompson, Herkimer, and seven grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 at the Fenner Funeral Home, Herkimer. Friends may call tonight from 7 to 9. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer.

  Charles Train Beeching, 63, of 503 N. George St., Rome, husband of the former Miss Lucina Thompson, this village, died yesterday in the Rome Hospital of a heart attack.
  He was born July 3, 1885, in Sterling, Ill., a son of William P. and Ellen Amanda Sprout Beeching. He resided in Herkimer in 1942 and 1943.
  In Key West, Fla., on July 20,1925, he married Miss Thompson. Besides his widow, he leaves a daughter; Miss Rosemary Beeching, Barnard College; a son, Charles T. Beeching, Jr.; a sister, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p. m. tomorrow from the Thomas A. Cox Funeral Home, Rome, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

 Miss Rosemary Beeching, daughter of Mrs. Charles Train Beeching, 316 Caroline St., and the late Mr. Beeching, was married in New York on Dec. 21 to Joseph Turvey, of Staten Island, New York, it was announced today.
  The ceremony took place in Corpus Christi Church, Morningside Heights, with the Rev. George B. Ford officiating. The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, Arch J. Thompson, Herkimer.
   Mrs Turvey, formerly of Rome and a graduate of Rome Free Academy, was graduated from Barnard College, cum laude, in the class of 1950, and was elected to the Barnard College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. She is now employed in the Treasury Department of the American Telephone and Telegraph Co.
   A Navy veteran of World War II, Turvey was graduated from Columbia College in the class of 1949, and from Columbia University School of Law this spring. A member of the New York Bar, he is associated with the law firm of Saxe, Bacon, O’Shea & Bryan, New York City.
  After a wedding trip through New England and a visit to the home of the bride’s mother, the couple will live in New York.

  Dolgeville, July 13 - Yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Miss Edith A. Freygang, daughter of Mrs. Josephine Freygang, became the bride of Horace A. Thompson, son of John Thompson of Herkimer.
  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Charles A. Rasay of Little Falls, at the home of the bride's mother, 14 Howard Street. The attending couple were Miss Betty Hardendorf of East Williaton, L. I., Arch F. Thompson of Herkimer, brother of-the groom. The bride was given away by her uncle, Charles F. Katfenbarger of this village.
  The bride wore a gown of white serene satin, trimmed with Spanish lace. Miss Hardendorf wore pink georgette. The bride carried a shower bouquet of white roses and lilies et the valley, and her maid carried a bouquet of pink roses.
  Mr. and Mrs. Thompson will spend their honeymoon touring the west and will later make their home In Zanesville. Ohio. The bride's going away costume was of tan canton crepe, with shoes and hat to match. Mr. Thompson is district plant engineer for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company st Zanesville.
  The bride is a former teacher of the junior high school in Oneida. She was guest of honor at pre-nuptial functions given by the teachers of the school, by Miss Betty Hardendorf and Mrs. Ada Butler of Oneida; by Mrs. Edward Kaffenberger and Mrs. Albert Plows and by Mrs. Clayton Brown of this village.

  Herkimer - Frank B. Stagler, 86, of 521 Renwick Ave., a bonded locksmith here for more than 68 years, died yesterday in the Genesee Nursing Home, Utica.
He was born in Herkimer. He marred Ida C. Barney in 1900 in Herkimer. She died in 1959. He retired in 1960.
  He leaves a son Brayton, Herkimer and a sister Mrs. Bessie Bills, Ilion.
  The funeral will be 11 tomorrow from the Fenner Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin J. Mosher, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be Oak Hill Cemetery.

  Mrs. Ida Cora Stadler, 76, of 521 Renwick Ave., a member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years, died yesterday in Herkimer Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
  She was born on Nov. 18, 1882, Cold Brook, a daughter of Fred and Cora M. Carpenter Barney. She came to Herkimer as a child and was married to Frank Stadler on Oct. 24, 1900, in Christ Episcopal Church here.
  She leaves her husband; a son, Brayton, of Herkimer; a sister, Mrs. Lena Payne of Hartwick; several nieces and nephews.
  Rev. Calvin Moon, pastor of First Baptist Church, will conduct services at 3 p.m. tomorrow from the Fenner Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

   Mrs. Ida Dick was matron of honor and Miss Carol Marie Costello, of Frankfort, niece of the bride, maid of honor. J. William Ellwood was best man and Lawrence Soroka, of Herkimer, and Anthony Costello, of Frankfort, were ushers.
  Escorted by her cousin, Frank Mallozzi, of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the bride wore a white pure silk crystal organza gown and headpiece with shoulderlength veil and carried a white prayer book with white orchid and stephanotis.
  The matron of honor wore ice yellow with matching bow and headpiece and carried yellow carnations and the maid of honor ice blue with matching bow and headpiece and blue carnations.
  After a reception in the church parlors, the couple left for a trip to Cape Cod. They will reside on Highland Ave. The bride was formerly employed by UNIVAC in Ilion, while the bridegroom is with the electric department of Niagara Mohawk Power Corp.

  STRATFORD—Mrs. Bessie L Bills, 90, of Stratford, died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Sawyer in Stratford, where she had resided the past seven years.
  Born Feb. 11, 1881, in Herkimer, she was the daughter of William and Julia Stanchel Stadler.
  Her first husband, Earl Palmer, died in 1914. On Jan. 5, 1915, she was married to Chester O. Bills in Frankfort. He died in 1960.
  A former resident of Ilion, she was a substitute rural mail carrier out of the Frankfort post office for 15 years. She was a member of. Christ Episcopal Church of Herkimer and a former member of the RFD Mail Carriers auxiliary.
  Surviving are one son, Charles Bills of Utica; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Nelson of Utica; Mrs. Gertrude Goodell of Fort Plain, and Mrs. Sawyer; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and one nephew.

 - Wedding Announcement (HerkimerCitizen, NY, Tuesday, August 15, 1905)
  Last evening at the home of the bride's uncle, C. A. Clemens, Miss Bessie Stadler was united in marriage to Earl Palmer of Litchfield. The ceremony was performed by Rev. B. L. Nichols of Frankfort Hill in the presence of about thirty relatives of the contracting parties They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Newth of Utica. Mrs. Newth is a sister of the groom. The bride was attired in a traveling suit of blue broadcloth and carried a bouquet of white roses and maiden-hair ferns. The bridesmaid wore white mull and carried a bouquet of sweet peas. There was a reception and a wedding supper was served after the ceremony. The presents were both valuable and useful. at a late hour a bridal party left for Litchfield, where they will make their future home., Mr. Palmaer being a prosperous farmer at that place.
