Grant Farrington, Prominent Farmer, Taken by Death
Grant Farrington, 85, prominent farmer and organizer of the dairy industry in Oswego county and a Holstein breeder for 69 years, died Sunday morning at the North Park Nursing Home where he had been a patient only a short time.
Funeral services were conducted at the Foster Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James N. Pauley, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. Interment was made in the family plot in Pulaski Cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Florence Hutt of Pulaski and Mrs. Earl (Ethel) Dexter of Mexico; one son, Horace G. Farrington of Pulaski; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His wife, the former Carrie Balsley Farrington, died
Jan. 11, 1951.
Mr. Farrington was born at Frankfort, Herkimer county, Sept. 22, 1868, on the Farrington farm, now the home of the Acme Products Co., the son of Horace G. and Erzila Chrisman Farrington. He came to this vicinity with his father and stepmother in 1883 (his mother having died when he was only three weeks old) purchasing a farm on the Centerville road one mile east of the village.
After his marriage to Carrie Balsley, on Dec. 12, 1888, they continued to operate the farm until 1931 when they moved to their late home on North St.
Mr. Farrington, however, has continued to supervise his farm making daily trips to it, until only a few months ago.
He conducted a fuel business with his son, Horace, for 22 years, selling that business and purchasing the Park Auto Service. Poor health forced him to retire as senior partner of this enterprise, and since that time he has devoted his time to his farm.
He was the first president of the Holstein-Freisian Association and a pioneer in establishing the Dairymen's League, a member of the original board of directors of that organization and a past president of the Salmon River local. He was a member and trustee of the Methodist Church for many years; a director of the former Peoples National Bank of Pulaski and was an active member in Pulaski Grange
