  Lawrence L. "Larry" Zick, 89, died Monday, March 9, 2009 at Sunrise Cottages.
  Larry was born February 4, 1920 to William G. and Laura E. (Hiltz) Zick in St. Charles, MN. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1940. Larry served in the Army from 1942-46 during WWII. He lived in the St. Charles and Rochester area while working at the Mayo Clinic as a custodian for eighteen years. He retired in 1985. He was a longtime member of the Rochester American Legion and VFW. Larry was an avid bowler. He enjoyed playing cards and dominos. Larry was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and area high school sports.
  Larry is survived by his sister Helen Nichols, Rochester, MN and eight nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his three sisters and three brothers.
   A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes' chapel. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens at a later date. Military honors will be offered at the funeral home following the service.

  Virginia L. Schurhammer, 81, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Arden Hills, MN, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at Charter House Hospice Suites.
   Virginia Leila Zick was born January 1, 1927, in St. Charles, MN, the youngest of a large, close-knit family. She left home at age 18 for Rochester and then four years later, moved to Minneapolis where she met her husband, Leonard Schurhammer. They married April 29, 1950.
   In 1951, she went to work for Honeywell. She was employed for 37 years. In 1963, they moved to a wonderful neighborhood in Arden Hills. Their home had a large yard and garden which they both enjoyed tending. Leonard died in 1978. Virginia stayed on and kept the home for 22 more years.
   In 2000, she moved back to Rochester to be with her two older sisters and brother. Cancer struck in 2005, and she battled it for three years; she moved to Charter House in March 2008. She was grateful for the care given to her at Charter House which made her final days comfortable.
   Virginia enjoyed running. She participated in 5K runs in her 60s and 70s. She continued to enjoy working around her yard and home up until she became ill. She also enjoyed oil painting, reading, crossword puzzles and domino games with her siblings. She followed the Minnesota Twins faithfully by attending games or watching on TV.
   She is survived by a brother, Lawrence Zick, Rochester, MN, and a sister Helen Nichols, Rochester, MN, and three nephews and eight nieces, whom she was very fond of. Her husband, three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
   Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery, Kellogg, MN at 2:30 p.m.

Eugene Arthur Riess

  The funeral for Eugene A. Riess will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Gary E. Benson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
  Mr. Riess, 83, of Rochester, died Tuesday (March 18, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital, of complications from cancer.
   He was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Minneapolis. From Jan. 7, 1942, to March 8, 1946, he served in the Navy. He married Jean Hilts, who preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 1981. Mr. Riess later married Betsy Papke on June 10, 1989, in Rochester. She survives.
   Mr. Riess was a plasterer and belonged to Local 472 of Plasterers and Cement Masons. He was also a member of the Eagles Club, the American Legion and VFW, and enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing and bowling.
   In addition to his second wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kathie (Gale) Priebe of Chatfield; two sons, Robert E. of San Diego and Richard (Nancy) of Bloomington, Minn.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard (Alice) of Rochester. Other survivors include three stepchildren, Joleen Gullickson and Jeffrey (Helen) Papke, both of Rochester, and Jay (Patrice) Papke of Arden Hills, Minn.; and seven stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
   Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, and an hour before the service Tuesday at Zumbro Lutheran Church.

  ILION — Clark L. Trimper, 85, formerly of Ilion, died Oct 9 in Jacksonville, Fla., where he made his home with three nieces.
   He was born in Kinderhook. He married Helen Teft in 1914 in Ilion. She died in 1966. He was a former emplye of SperryRand. For many years he was personnel manager. He lived in Ilion about 60 years, leaving four years ago for Jacksonville.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Ilion Lodge, F&AM. He leaves six nieces.
   The funeral will be at 11 tomorrow from the Applegate Funeral Home. Burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight.

Fremont and Elizabeth Gittins Tefft She was graduated from Ilion High School in 1899. Her husband, Roy D. Chesebrough, died several years ago. A life resident of Ilion, Mrs. Chesebrough had been employed by Remington Rand during World War II. She was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church. She leaves a sister, Mrs. Clark Trimper, Ilion.
