GASOLINE CATCHES FIRE IN HAGCERTY STORE AND SEVERAL RECEIVE BURNS
SUGAR GROVE- Several persons were burned and several hundred dollars loss was sustained late Thursday afternoon when gasoline in the D. H. Haggerty hardware store caught fire.
It was reported that an employe named Kibbey was drawing high test gasoline from a drum in the implement room when the gasoline burst into flames.
The Sugar Grove Fire department was called and used foamite on the blaze.
Meanwhile, another employe, Lawrence Dalrymple, carried the flaming drum of gasoline from the structure, receiving burns about both arms. He was treated by a physician.
Several spectators who sought to extinguish the fire with hand extinguishers were burned slightly about the hands. The Haggerty store was badly damaged eight years ago when a fire swept several buildings here. The structure was rebuilt following that fire.

Mr. Williams has served as corporation counsel of Utica, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York, official referee and in important bar association positions including presidency of the Oneida County Bar Association.
At the time of his death, he was senior member of the Williams & Williams law firm.
He was born at Verona Mills, Town of Verona, and except for four years spent on a Western New York farm, called that village his home until 1914. Then, he moved to Utica and joined in a law partnership with M. William Bray, who later became lieutenant governor of New York State.
He had served a clerkship of two years with attorney John E. Mason. He was graduated in 1913 from Albany Law School and was admitted to the bar that year.
He married Florence Carpenter in June 16, 1916.
In 1946, he formed a partnership with his son, Roger H. Williams, with offices in the First National Bank Building.
Mr. Williams was serving as assistant U. S. attorney when his chief died and he assumed charge of U. S. attorney and served in that office until the late President Harding appointed his successor.
While in office, he tried and convicted Harry Stone, one of the largest smugglers of narcotics in the United States.
Other cases in which he obtained indictments and  convictions were those of the notorious Arnold Rothstein, for conspiracy and employees of the Watervliet Arsenal who defrauded the government on a large scale in the sale of wartime machinery.
In World War I, he served as counsel to the U. S. Food Administrator for Oneida County. Mayor Fred Gillmore appointed him corporation counsel of Utica in 1924, and he served for four years.
In that period he represented the city in cases involving 50 claims for damages due to the removal of "the hump" the Genesee St. overcrossing of the Erie Canal. The claims aggregated $2.5 million. Mr. Williams was appointed by Justice Edward North Smith to serve as referee in a primary election dispute in the fall of 1934. A recount  in 157 election districts resulted, Justice Smith complimented him upon his thoroughness and fairness.
Mr. Williams, a lifelong Democrat, was that party's candidate for Supreme Court in 1935 and he carried Oneida County by 6,500 voted by did not win due to the predominantly Republican texture of other counties of the Fifth Judicial District.
As chairman of the Utica City Charter revision committee in 1937, he served with Alexander Pirale, the new congressman and counsel.
Mr. Williams served for many years as president of the board of visitors of Utica State Hospital. He was a member of the bar's committee for the past 18 years under appointment by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Democratic Club, Utica Lodge 33, BPO Elks, and the (illegible) Golf Club.
