“Tomah Boy Married In Iowa
The following notice of the marriage of a well known Tomah boy is clipped from the Davenport, Iowa, Herald:
Dr. Blanche Jones and Robert Getman were married last Monday by Elder Howard at the Christian parsonage. The doctor is the daughter of a widowed mother, Mrs. D.A. Jones of this place. Her father, the Elder Robert Jones, having died at Maitland, Mo., when she was very young. Mrs. Getman is possessed of the requisites necessary to a true American womanhood. Thru her persistent efforts she has been in turn school teacher, assistant editor of the Osteopathic Journal, Kirksville, Mo., and for more than a year past has been in the successful practice of her profession, that of dental surgery, with splendidly equipped parlors at Davenport, Iowa.
Mr. Getman of Tomah, Wis., comes well recommended, with the attainments of a first quality gentleman, at present in the employment of the American Telephone and Telegraph Co. as inspector, headquarters at Chicago. We with their many friends extend our congratulations.”

Edith Violet Getman was born in the vicinity of Tomah, Wisconsin, Feb. 7, 1892, and departed this life, at the home of her mother in this city, April 20, 1917. Her childhood was spent in and near this place, where she later attended the Tomah Public schools, participating in the various activities of the same. Some time later she accepted a position with the American Telephone and Telegraph Company as operator, performing her duties faithfully, and gaining the confidence of all with whom she came in contact. Although being the youngest of a family of six children, she it was to whom they all gave their confidences, and to her they looked for advice.
After leaving the employ of the Telephone Company she was happily married on April 16, 1913, to an old school mate, Mr. Arthur Sherwood, and the family resided for some time in Mauston. Two children blessed the home, John H. and Robert G., to whom she was a devoted mother.
Funeral services were conducted from the parental home in this city Monday afternoon, by Rev. L. E. Hoisington, assisted by Rev. H.A. Link of Watertown, formerly of Mauston. The services were largely attended by sympathizing friends, and the many beautiful floral tributes testified to the high esteem in which the deceased was held.
Besides the husband and little sons mentioned she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Clara Getman, two sisters, Miss Ethel and Mrs. Ernest Johnson, and two brothers, Harry and Robert H. Getman.”

Mr. Arthur Sherwood of Mauston and Miss Edith Getman of this city were united in marriage Wednesday evening, April 16th, at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Hiram Getman, on Holton street. The ceremony was performed at 8:00 o'clock by the Rev. L.E. Hoisington of the M.E. church. The wedding was a very quiet affair and the young couple left on the east-bound train for Mauston which will be their home. The groom is a former Tomah boy, living here until a year ago when his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Sherwood, removed to Mauston. He is engaged in the moving picture business at that place. Both bride and groom have many friends here who extend best wishes.

Irene Getman, 88, of Sumner died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, in Kearney. She was born June 4, 1921, in Kit Carson to Joseph and Mary (Olinger) Mahlberg.
In 1944, she married Jake Dodd. He died in December 1961.
In 1967, she married Frank Getman. He died in 1996.
Survivors include her son, Joe Dodd of Sumner; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Miles City – William H. Wise, 66, for many years an engineer on the Milwaukee system, died recently. He was with the railway 43 years, first as fireman. He came here in 1909. Mr. Wise was born in Tomah, WI, and married Millie Loehr there. Mrs. Wise and one son, William Wise, former assistant city engineer here and now of Palo Alto, CA, survive. Another son, John, died 14 years ago. Two sisters and one brother also survive.
