HERKIMER - Mrs. Mary J. Gay, 102, formerly of this village and Dolgeville, died yesterday at Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin, where she had been a patient since Nov. 1973.
She was born in Salisbury, daughter of William and Helen BArnes Jennings, and was married to Elmer Gay in 1892 in Herkimer. He died in 1949.
Mrs. Gay was a member of the Herkimer American Legion Auxillary and the Dolgeville Senior Citizens.
She was a Methodist.
She leaves two neices, Mrs. Gerald (Marjorie) Near, Salisbury Center; Mrs Robert (Dorothy) Goodman, North Syracuse and two nephews, Edgar Jennings, Brewerton and George Brown, Gloversville.
The funeral will be at 11 Tuesday from the Fenner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery this spring.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tomorrow.

Mrs. Grace M Jennings, 78, of the Knappville section of the town of Stratford, died at her home Sunday night. Mrs. Jennings was born in the town of Salisbury on October 13, 1882, daughter of Edward and Anne Pauley Jaquays.
On November 26, 1902 she was married to Milford Jennings. Mrs. Jennings was a member of the Universalist Church of Salisbury Center and its Hand in Hand Society; a member of the Salisbury Center Grange, the Herkimer County Pomona Grange and a 7th degree member of the State Grange.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs Marjorie Near, Salisbury Center and Mrs. Dorothy Goodman, North Syracuse, one son, Edgar, of Brewerton, one step-brother, William Jaquays, Waterville; three grandchildren two great crandchildren. nieces and nephews.

Edgar M. Jennings, 85, of Ladd Road, Brewerton, died Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital.
A native of Knappville, Mr. Jennings lived in Brewerton 45 years. He retired in 1966 as a truck driver after 40 years with Allied Chemical Corp., Solvay.
Mr. Jennings was a member of Fort Brewerton Lodge 256, F&AM, and the Brewerton Rod and Gun Club. He was a former member of the Brewerton Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife, Vera; two sisters, Dorothy Goodman of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Marjorie Roberts of Salisbury Center; two nephews; and a niece.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
There will be no calling hours.
Contributions may be made to Brewerton Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Fund.

William was one of 6 children born in Little Rock, Kendall, Illinois to George A. Beck (1838-1889) and Caroline E. Tenney (1842-1920) He was my step-great grandfather.
When he was 5 his family moved to York, NB. He went to school there with Mertie Dale.
He married Myrtle (Mertie) E. Dale June 23, 1890 in York, NB. In 1897, they moved to Denver and had two sons (Harold Lester Beck 1893-1962) and Claude Beck (1891-1972).
In 1900 he was a partner in the old Brown & Beck Bicycle Co. at 18th & Champa. By 1910-1940 he was the proprietor of a wholesale cigar (Mapacuba & Garcia) business called W.A. Beck Wholesale Cigar Co.
He was a member of the Traveling Men's Assn.
William and Mertie lived in Denver for most of their lives. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1940.

Mertie, or Minnie, was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to Peter W. Dale (1839-1902)and Elmira E. Dale (1839-1897). She was one of 4 children: Elsie, Lester, Myrtie & Ruby. Her father was a Laborer, her mother, a Dressmaker. At the age of 9 her family moved to Gibson, Ford, Illinois. By age 15 the family was in York, Nebraska.
She married William A. Beck June 23, 1890 in York, Neb. In 1890 they moved to Denver and had 2 sons: Claude G. Beck & Harold L. Beck. They lived at 2055 Eliot Street.
Mertie was active in several Denver musical organizations as pianist and singer.

Funeral services for Margaret Beck Maxwell were held Tuesday, January 23, 1968 at 1:30 p. m. from the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell, Iowa with the Rev. Dale Ellsworth officiating.
Mrs. Alice Gooden sang "Going Down The Valley One By One" and "Beyond The Sunset" accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Madeline Summitt.
The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Jack Viers and Mrs. Hadley Reynolds.
Casket bearers were V. O. Ray, Fred Maxwell, Jack Viers, Harry Cairns, Kermit Griffith and Russell Denton.
Burial was in the Cambridge Cemetery.
Margaret Catherine Beck, daughter of DeWitt Clinton and Barbara Malloy Beck was born September 27, 1887 at Cambridge, Iowa and passed away January 19, 1968 at 11:40 P.M. at the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, having reached the age of 80 years, 3 months and 23 days.
On March 10, 1915 she was united in marriage to Boyd W. Maxwell and to this union one son, Millard was born. She attended Cambridge School and lived her entire life in the Cambridge and Maxwell community with the exception of a few years she lived in Longmont, Colorado.
Four years ago she suffered a stroke and since that time has made her home with her sister, Nellie Beck in Cambridge.
On December 30 she reentered the hospital where she passed away.
She was a devoted mother, sister and grandmother and was always wanting to do something good for her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers. She leaves to mourn her loss her son Millard B. Maxwell and his wife Helen and grandson, Gary of Ankeny, Iowa and one sister, Nellie Beck of Cambridge, Iowa, besides many cousins and a host of friends.
