Betty A. (McArthur) Mastin, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Edward Mastin; two children, Steve (Pattie) Hill and Susan (Richard) Fabrizio; four stepchildren, Michael, Gary and Mark Mastin and Nancy Galens; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Gail) McArthur and Douglas (Gail) McArthur; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Gary McArthur in 2011. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. Eugene Cring a farmer at lake Bonaparte many years, died at his home Sunday morning. His death was attributed to pneumonia. Mr. Cring was born in the town of Diana 50 years ago and always resided in that section. His parents, Chester and Jane Cring, pioneer settlers in the town of Diana, died two years ago. Mr. Cring was a member of Adirondack Grange. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Minnie Colwell Cring; four daughters, a brother, Theodore Cring, and two sisters. Mrs. Stella Wicks and Mrs. Gladys Dobson. Mrs. Stella C. Weeks, 79, wife of Bert W. Weeks, died Thursday at the House of Good Samaritan, Watertown where she had been a patient since Nov. 29.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Francis, Pine City and Richard, Cambridge; a sister Mrs. Gladys Dobson, and a brother, Theodore Cring, both of Harrisville; six grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A son, Bert W. Jr., died May 29, 1948 at the age of 20.
Born Dec. 29, 1890, at Harrisville, a daughter of Chester and Jane Lewis Cring, she attended local schools and taught schools in the Farely and Sternbecker Districts. She married Bert W. Weeks on March 18, 1913 in the Carthage Methodist Church by Rev. J. W. Barrett.
Mrs. Weeks was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the W.S.C.S of church, served as a 4-H Club leader, was a 60 year member of Adirondack Grange, served as matron of the Juvenile grange 10 years, was secretary of the subordinate grange 15 years, was a member of state and national Pomona Grange, a member of the W.C.T.U. and was a Sunday school teacher at Tylers Corners.

The wedding of Miss Gladys Cring to Ollie Dobson, both of Harrisville, was solemnized at the M. E. parsonage in Carthage on June 27, Rev. James Matthews performing the ceremony. Mae Dobson and Theodore Cring, a brother of the bride, were the attendants. Following the ceremony dinner was served to the bridal party at the Elmhirst hotel, after which the couple left by auto for Utica, Syracuse, Auburn and other Cities in the western part of the State. The bride is a popular young woman of Harrisville, who has taught many successful terms of school. The groom is a prosperous farmer near Lake Bonaparte, where they will reside. Both are well known and have a large circle of friends who extend congratulations.

HARRISVILLE - Mr. and Mrs. Theodore W. Cring, Natural Bridge Road, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 3 with an open house given by their daughter, Mrs. James J. (Evelyn) Hunter, Jr., at the United Methodist Church Community hall. Theodore W. Cring and Miss Mae E. Dobson were married May 1, 1920, at the Carthage Methodist parsonage. Albert Hathway, Corinth, and Mrs. Lyman (Grace Weeks) Humes, Harrisville,were attendants. Mrs. Cring is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dobson, Harrisville. Mr. Cring, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chet Cring, Harrisville, is a retired farmer. They have lived at their present address since their marriage, operating a farm. Mr. Cring also worked from 1939 to 1969 for the Harrisville Central School as a bus driver and maintenance man. Mrs. Cring has operated the Harrisville Bowling Alleys since 1959. Mrs. Hunter is their only child. They have eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

HARRISVILLE ... On the evening of August 31st, at the home of Archie Peryer, occurred the marriage of Rupert O. Cring and Ethel D. LaPlatney. Claude LaPlatney, a cousin of the bride, acted as best man, and Edna Cring, sister of the groom, as bridesmaid. A promiscoue company which had gathered outside to bombard the happy couple with rice, weredisappointed completely, as the couple escaped by the back door, and were gone about two hours before their departure was discovered.

Earl W. Cring, 27, Harrisville, was fatally injured late Saturday night when he fell from an automobile near Harrisville.
According to investigation by Sergt. F. B. Homedew, State Police. Cring was accompanying Earl Lavoy, Carthage, on a trip to Carthage when Lavoy swung sharply to avoid hitting the auto of Gordon Booth, Natural Bridge, halted on the side of the roadway for tire repairs. Cring was thrown out and suffered fatal injures. It was the seventh fatal automobile accident this year in Lewis County- Newspaper Article (Rome Daily Sentinal, NY, Thursday, October 13, 1938)

The couple have seven children; Leland A. Morrisville, Richard H, Harrisville, Adelbert W., Greenville, South Carolina and Mrs. Stanley (Marion) Bretsch and Mrs. Ralph (Lou) Green of Watertown, Mrs. John (Doris) Lewis, Constantia, Mrs. Rosalie Bassette, Harrisville. A daughter, Mrs. Edward (Beatrice) Chartrand, Harrisville, died Aug. 23, 1969.
Mr. and Mrs. Cring have 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Stanley F. Bretsch, 52, of 817 Academy St., a serviceman at Sears Roebuck & Co., died at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo, where he had been a patient two days.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Marion Cring Bretsch; a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Patricia) Rhinehart, Manchester N.H.; four grancdchildren, and a cousin, Mrs. William J. (Margaret) Tubolino, 315 Sullivan St.
Born Dec. 5, 1918, in Watertown, a son of claude and Edith Mae Simmons Bretsch, he was graduated from Watertown High School and served in the navy in the European theater in World War II.
Mr. Bretsch was employed years ago at the New York Air Brake Co., then for a firm of interior decorators. He operated a plumbing and heating business for a time and was employed at the Sears store for ten years.
He married twice. The marriage to Miss Dorothy B. M. Irish on Dec. 24, 1939, ended in divorce. On July 14 1946, in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, he married Miss Marion E. Cring of Watertown. Rev. Robert Wells Young, then pastor, officiated.
Mr. Bretsch was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Elks lodge and the American Legion.
The funeral is tentatively set for 11 a.m., Friday at Reed and Benoit Funeral Home, Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
