  Canajoharie. Dec 21 0 Mary Elizabeth Young, wife of Adam Young, died at 11 o'clock Sundey night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harold Timmermanon Division street in Amsterdam. She had been in poor health for some time, being severly afflicted with asthma. The deceased was born in the town of Palatine, November 16, 1857 and was 58 years of age. she is survived by her husband, and aged father, Alonzo Eacker of Palatine; three sons, Alvin and Ray Young of Amsterdam, and Homer G. Young of Springfield, Mass.; three daughters. Mrs. Timmerman of Amsterdam, Mr. Leon Jennings of Gloversville, Miss Sarah E. Young of Amsterdam; three brothers, Adelbert of Johnstown, William of Palatine and Myron of Boise City, Idaho. Mrs. Young was sister-in-law of Undertaker C. L. Young of this village, who will have charge of the funeral to be held at 1 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon at the Reformed Church in Fonda. The Rev. Mr. Cussler, pastor will officiate. Burial at the Sand Flats.

 - Obituary (Schenectady Gazette,Tuesday morning, April 10, 1928)
  Adam Young, for the past seven years a resident of Scotia, died yesterday morning at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Harold F. Timmerman of 8 Washington road. Mr. Young was born February 11, 1853, in Ephratah, N. Y.. and spent all his life in the central part of this state. He is survived by two sons, Alvin of Northville, N. Y.. Homer of Springfield, Mass.; two daughters. Mrs. Harold F. Timmerman and Mrs. Frank Howe, both of Scotia; two brothers. Clark J. of Canajoharie and George H. of Johnstown, and nine grandchildren.
  The funeral services, which will be private, will be held at the Timmerman home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. Anthony Van Westenhurg will officate. Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Tribes Hill.

  Ray Alonzo Young, one of Amsterdam's well-known young businessmen, died Friday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock at his home, 10 McDonnell street, after several days' illness of pneumonia.
  Mr. Young was born at Stone Arabia, in the town of Palatine, April 12, 1885. He was married Novmeber 28, 1912, to Miss Margaret Boyd, of Fonda, daughter of the late J & C Boyd. He was a resident of Fonda for may years, coming to this city about three years ago. While at Fonda he served as deputy postmaster under Postmaster James A. Snell. He at once identified himslef with a number of organizations of this city and interested himself in its various activities, after coming to Amsterdam. Last January the firm of Tiffany & Young, insurance and bond brokers, was formed, of which Mr. Young was the junior member.
  Mr. Young was a member of the First Reformed church of Fonda, of the Elks club and Antlers Country club of this city, also of the Liberty Bond Vocal club. He occupied positions as tenor soloist in various chiors of the churches of the city, and had been recently been connected with a churchchior in Schenectady. Mr. Young was known throughout the Mohawk valley as a vocalist of high degree, and was heard with pleasure wherever he sang.
  Physically the picture of health, robust, and virtually exuding good cheer to all within the circles in which he moved. Ray Young was admired by everyone who knew him and his early passing brings deep sorrow to an unusually large number of friends - because of his cheery smile, his pleasing personality and unbounding faith in all that was good.
  Mr. Young is survived by his wife; his grandfather Alonzo Eacker, of Ephratah; his father, Adam Young, and a brother, Alvin Young of Amsterdam; another brother, Homer G. of Springfield, Mass., and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Rowe of Schenectady, and Mrs. Harold timmerman, of New York.

  Frank M. Rowe, a native of Schenectady and a resident of Scotia, died Wednesday in EllisHospital after an illness of two weeks.
  An employee of the General Electric Co., Mr. Rowe made his home on Amsterdam road in Scotia.
  Rev. Daniel Y. Brink, pastor of the Scotia Reformed Church, of which Mr. Rowe was a member will officiate at a private funeral. Burial will be in Park View cemetery.
  His wife, Mrs. Sara Young Rowe, survives.

  Fort Plain - William Eaker, 88, a lifelong resident of the town of Palatine, died unexpectedly Spt. 2, 1949 after working ona ditch. Coroner Raymond E. Wytrwal, St. Johnsville, pronounced death due to a heart attack.
  Mr. Eaker was born in the East Stone Arabia section of the town Apr. 9, 1861, a son of Alonzo and Sarah Cook Eaker. He was a farmer and was a member of the Evangelical United Brethern Church, East Stone Arabia.
  He leaves his wife, the former Ida May Curry; a daughter, Mrs. Grover Borden, Willett St. Fort Plain; a son, Stanley Eaker, Canajoharie; a step-daughter, Mrs. James Moore, Utica; four grand-children and four great-grand-children.
  The funeral will be tomorrow at 3 p.m. from the Swartz Funeral Home, Center St. with the Rev. Martin, pastor of the Evangelical Church, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda.


Violetta Abel

 - Obituary (Amsterdam Evening Recorder, NY, Monday, February 28, 1916)
  Canajoharie, Feb. 28. — Violetta Eaker, wife of William Eaker, died at 1:30 p. m.. Saturday, at her home in East Stone Arabia. Mrs. Eaker had been in poor health for some time, and for ten weeks confined to her bed. Death resulted from a compilecation of diseases which affected the heart.
  Mrs. Eaker was born in East Stone Arabia, in the town of Palatine, Sept. 1, 1865. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Abell, and always resided in the vicinity of her birth. She was a member of the Evangelical church of East Stone Arabia, and a highly and most estimable woman, whose death has occasioned much sorrow among all who knew her.
  Mrs. Eaker is survived by her husband, aged mother, one son, Stanley A., and one daughter, Mrs. Jacob D. Hinckle, all of East Stone Arabia; three brothers, William Abell, of Ephratah; Arthur and Ezra Abell, of Fort Plain, and three sisters, Mrs. Horace Walrath, of Johnstown, and Mrs. Myron Showerman and Mrs. John Crider, of East Stone Arabia.
  The funeral will be held Tuesday at 12 o'clock noon at the home. The Rev. Henry Haag, pastor of the Evangelical church, will officiate. Burial in the cemetery at the Sand Flats.

  Adelbert J. Laning, life-long resident of Stone Arabia passed away yesterday afternoon at 3 at his home there. He suffered a severe stroke December 17, 1930 and has been in failing health since that time. He was 71 years ot age.
   Laning was born in Stone Arabia, December 10, 1860 and was a member of the Reformed church of that place.
   He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Emma Laning; one son, Jesse; one daughter, Edith; one brother, Jesse Laning, 4 West Montgomery street, Johnstown; one sister, Miss Ella Laning, 4 Gilbert street, Johnstown.
  The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon from the home at 2 (DST). Rev. Royal Stanton, former pastor of the Reformed church ot this city, will officiate.

 - Obituary (Evening Recorder, Amsterdam, NY, Friday, July 6, 1945)
  FORT PLAIN, July 6. — Edith Laning Greene, 36, wife of Harry W. Greene, died suddenly at her home Wednesday afternoon.
  She was born in the Town of Palatine on March 17, 1889, the daughter of Adelbert and Emma Eacker Laning. Mrs. Greene was a member of the Reformed Church and its Missionary Society. For a number of years she was secretary of the Mohawk Valley Historical Association. Mrs. Greene was a writer of poems and only a short time before her death her poems, "Heartsease," had been issued in book form.
  The survivors are her husband; one step-daughter, Miss Katherine Greene, Fort Plain, and a brother, Jesse Laning, Stone Arabia.
  The body will remain at the home until Saturday at 12 noon. Services will be held at the Gray funeral home at 2 o'clock. The Rev. E. R. Kruizenga of the Reformed Church will officiate. Burial will be in the local cemetery.

 - Obituary (Amsterdam Evening Recorder, NY, Tuesday, February 12, 1968)
  FORT PLAIN — Harry W. Greene, 85, of 18 Home St., Fort Plain, died Monday afternoon at Utica Hospital, where he had been a patient for nine months.  
   He was born in the Town of Minden on Oct. 20, 1882, the son of Elfonzo and Anna Dygert Greene, and had been a lifelong area resident. He attended local schools and Cornell University and had operated a dairy farm until 1950, when he retired. He was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church.
  Mr. Greene was married twice. His first wife, Leta Doxstader, died in 1932. In 1936 he married Edith Laning, who died in 1944.
  He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. L. Randall Dixon, and two granddaughters, Suzanne and Deborah Dixon; a sister, Mrs. Melvin Kasler, and several nieces and nephews, all of Fort Plain.
  Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home in Fort Plain, with the Rev. H. T. J. Hilbrands, pastor of the Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be made later in the spring in the Fort Plain cemetery.


Marriage Notes for Edith Laning and Harry W Greene

 - Wedding Announcement (Enterprise and News, St Johnsville, NY, October (undated), 1935)
  The marriage of Harry W. Greene son of Mr. Elphonso Green of Fort Plain and Miss Edith Laning, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adelbert Laning of Stone Arabia was solemnized on Tuesday, October 15 at two o'clock in the old stone church, Stone Arabia with Rev. E. R. Kruizenga, pastor of the Reformed church of Fort Plain performing the ceremony. The single ring service was used. The attending couple were Mr. and Mrs. Albert F. Kilts of Stone Arabia. Mrs. Kilts is a cousin of the bride. The bride's gown was of Eleanor blue silk lace. She wore the white silk shawl worn by her maternal grandmother at her wedding, just 75 years ago. She also wore a white lace cap and carried a white prayer hook, Her attendent's gown was blue figured crepe. The only flowers used was a huge basket of white Madonna lilies which was placed in front of the altar. The bride's going away gown was a suit of blue basket cloth with matching accessories. After spending Siome time in Mount Vernon and Jersey City Mr. and Mrs. Greene will be at home at the Greene Heights, 300 Main street, Fort Plain. Those present at the wedding were Miss Kathryn Greene, Mr. Elphonso Greene, Mrs. Alice Gramps Gray, Miss Carmeta Gray, Mrs. E. R. Kruizenga, Fort Plain Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Laning, Miss Ella Laning, Mrs. Howard Cole, Miss Gertrude Eldrett, Johnstown and Mrs. Earl Dockstader, Mrs. Wm.   Fort Plain ... Jesse J. Laning, 73, died unexpectedly last night at his home, Fort Plain RD 2.
  He was born Dec. 21, 1892, in the Town of Palatine, a son of Adelbert and Sarah Eacker Laning.
  On June 22, 1925, he married the former Veda Vosburgh.
  The couple had since resided in the Stone Arabia area, where Mr. Lansing operated a dairy farm until the time of his death.
  The only survivors are his wife and several cousins.

  FORT PLAIN- Mrs. Vada Laning, 70, of RD 2 Fort Plain died unexpectedly at her home  yesterday.
  Born in the Town of Palatine, Mrs. Laning had lived in that area all of her life. The widow
of Jesse J. Laning, she was a member of the Megiddo Mission of Rochester.
  Survivors include three brothers, Ralph, Gerald and Vaughn Vosburgh, all of RD 2 Fort Plain. Several cousins also survive.
  The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home. Newton Payne of the Megiddo Mission of Rochester will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery. The funeral home will be open this evening and tomorrow afternoon and evening.

  FORT PLAIN ... Jacob Eacker, 84, died early Sunday morning at his home in Stone Arabia. Born February 5, 1863. in the Town of Palatine, Mr. Eacker was a son of Oliver and Mary Gramps Eacker. He was a member of the Stone Arabia Evangelical Church.
  Survivors, besides his wife, are two sons. Adelbert, Stone Arabia, and Harold, Fonda; six daughters, Mrs. Harry Dunckle, Mrs. George Hinkle, Mrs. Carl Hillabrandt, Stone Arabia, Mrs. Robert Smith and Mrs. Rita Cramer, Salt Springville, and Mrs. Walter Rurry, Cherry Valley; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
  The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 P. M. at the Gray funeral home here, with the Rev. Gerald Boyer, pastor of the Stone Arabia Evangelical Church, officiating. Interment will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

  FORT PLAIN. July 29 — Mrs. Emma Fox Eacker, 82, widow of Jacob Eacker, died yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Hillabrandt, in East Stone Arabia. She had been ill for some time.
  Mrs. Eacker was born April 1, 1866, in the Town of Palatine, the daughter of William and Rosanna Grandon Fox. She spent the greater part of her life in East Stone Arabia. She was an active member for many years of the Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church of East Stone Arabia.
  The survivors are six daughters, Mrs. Harry Dunckel, Mrs. George Hinckle and Mrs. Earl Hillabrandt, East Stone Arabia, Mrs. Robert Smith and Mrs. Rita Crane, Salt Springville, and Mrs. Walter Rury, Cherry Valley; two sons, Adelbert Eacker, Little Falls, and Harold Eacker, Fonda, also 19 grandchildren and 10 greal-grandchiidren.
  Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Gray funeral home in Fort Plain. The Rev. Mark Baker, pastor, and the Rev. Gerald Boyer, former pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, will officiate. Burial will be made in the Fort Plain Cemetery

  AMSTERDAM - Mrs. Florence (Flossie) Hinkle, celebrated her 90th birthday, Saturday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital where she has been a patient for the past seven weeks.
  A birthday cake in her honor was served to her many friends and relatives who visited her throughout the day. They came from East Stone Arabia, Fort Plain, Canajoharie, McKinley, Palatine Bridge, Scotia, Fonda, Endicott, Johnstown, Cherry Valley, Amsterdam and Virginia.
  Mrs. Hinkle, who resides in Stone Arabia at the home of Leona Hinkle, was born March 22, 1890 in the Town of Palatine. She was married to George Hinkle Jan. 18, 1911. He died April 17. 1977. The couple farmed all their life in the Stone Arabia area.
  Mrs. Hinkle is a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, the Ladies' Circle and Missionary Society of the church.
  She attributes her longevity to "hard work".

  Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church in Stone Arabia with the Rev. Clair Carpenter, assisted by the Rev. Gerald Boyer, officiating. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.

   Mrs. Walsh was born in Stone Arabia, daughter of John H and Nancy Ecker, She had been a resident of Johnstown over fifty years.
   The survivors, besides her husband are one step-son Joseph W. Walsh: one sister, Mrs. Alice Young; two grandchildren: several nieces and nephews, all of Johnstown.
   The body was removed to the Rogers & Young funeral home, Gloversville, to be prepared for burial. Announcement of the funeral arrangements will be made later.

  Mrs. Nancy Alice Young, 86, who had been ill a long time, died Sunday afternoon at the Burleigh Nursing Home where she had been a patient 4 1/2 years.
   Mrs. Young was bom at Stone Arabia on Aug. 25, 1870, and received her education in the local school. On Dec. 18, 1888, she was united in marriage to Martin Young, who died several years ago.
   Mrs. Young resided in Johnstown for 58 years and for the last 10 years resided in Gloversville. She attended the Johnstown Methodist Church.
   Surviving are one son, Clyde Young of this city; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

  Born in Fort Plain on March 14, 1900, he was the son of Clayton and Katy Whyland Green. He was a member of the Stone Arabia Reformed Church and had been a member of the Circus Fans of America Association.
  He is survived by his wife the former Burdella Lasher, to whom he was married on Jan. 11, 1922; one aunt and several cousins.
  Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Stone Arabia Reformed Church, with the Rev. Frank H. Shlmer, retired pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in the Fort Plain cemetery.

  FORT PLAIN—Raymond Lasher, 78, Nelliston farmer, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at his home. He had been in ill health during the winter and had been about the farm buildings Saturday and Sunday for the first time in several weeks.
  He was born in Stone Arabia, Town of Palatine, Oct 12, 1876, son of Henry and Charlotte Eacker Lasher, and had lived in Nelliston 42 years. He was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church.
   Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Wilda Green Lasher, and two sons, Carlton and Edwin, all of Nelliston; one daughter, Mrs. George Staley, Canajoharie: also one grandson and several nieces and nephews.
  The funeral service will be held at the Gray funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. John Pelon, pastor of the Reformed Church, will officiate. The body will be placed in the vault of the Catherine Nellis Memorial chapel until burial in the spring in the Fort Plain cemetery.

  Mrs. Raymond (Wilda) Lasher, 93, West Main street, Nelliston. died Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
  She was born May 10, 1884, in Gloversville.
  Her husband died a number of years ago.
  Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marion Staley, Canajoharie; a son, Edwin Lasher, Nelliston; a grandson, Richard Lasher, Nelliston, and three great grandchildren.
  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today from the Gray Funeral Home, Fort Plain, with the Rev. Robert Hess, pastor of the Fort Plain Reformed Church, officiating. Interment was made in the Fort Plain Cemetery.

  CANAJOHARIE - George Dewey Staley, 64, died early Friday evening at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Coopcrstown after an illness of six months.
  Born on April 28, 1898 in Sprakers, he was the son of Alfred Staley and Amy Planck.
  Survivors include his wife; Mrs. Marion Lasher Staley; three sisters, Mrs. Molly Henry of Amsterdam, Mrs. James VanAlystine of Nelliston, and Mrs. James Neill of Canajoharie; three brothers, Seward of Orbana, Ill., Leo of Columbus, Ohio, and Fred of Wells; nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services will be held on. Monday at 1 p.m. at the Houghtaling funeral home in Canajoharie, with the Rev. Earl Van Leeuwen, pastor of the Canajoharie Reformed Church, officiating.
  The body will be placed in the Fort Plain chapel for burial in the spring.

  A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the William Hempstead VFW Post and the llion Fish & Game Club. He was a Methodist.
  He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Irene Wilcox of llion and Mrs. Kenneth (Alice) Ball of Clinton and two brothers. Harry of Syracuse and Harold of Herkimer.
  The funeral will be at 1 tomorrow from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, llion.
