Bertha Maude Sehn

  GARFINKLE - Bertha Maud Garfinkle, 91, of Springfield died November 16, 1990 at a local care center. She was born on September 13, 1899 in Spearfish, South Dakota to Lavina and Joseph Sehn. She and David Garfinkle were married in the late 1940's in Carson City , Nevada. David preceeded Bertha in death in 1976. Bertha lived in this area from 1938 to 1941 and then later returned in 1977. Prior to retirement she worked as a cashier for A.C. Transit. Survivors include 2 daughters: Shirley Cournoyer, and patricia Barber and her husband Richard, all of Eugene, 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Ruth Clay of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Elizabeth Stonefelt of Sacramento, California. Bertha was preceded in death by her son, Allan C. Caulkins in 1981. Ther will be a funeral service on Monday, November 19, 1990 at 2 p.m. in Buell Chapel
  Interment will be in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

  Mohawk - Dean Pierce 75, died Dec 8, 1938, at his home 11 E Center.
  Mr. Pierce was the son of the late James Dean Pierce and Mary E Skinner Pierce, and a native of the Town of Columbia.
   He had been employed for the past 18 years at the Remington Rand Typewriter plant in Ilion and attended Mohawk Reformed Church.
  He married Marcia Adella Skinner who died a few years ago.
  A daughter, Miss Sylva Pierce survives with two brothers, Milo, of Jordanville and Orlando, of Carlisle, N.Y., also one sister, Elizabeth of Clarkston, Mich.

  The funeral of a young wife and mother, Mrs. Dean Pierce, of the Haner settlement, was held at the Columbia Church Monday. The many friends in the Sabbath school of which she was a former member, provided a profusion of choice and neatly arranged flowers. The remains were enclosed in an elegant white casket, while Rev. S. R. Ward offered words of comfort to the bereaved friends. She was 22 years old, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Delos Skinner and leaves an infant (Sylvia) not yet three weeks old.

  CANAJOHARIE — Orlando Franklyn Pierce, 88, died Wednesday evening at the home of Seymour Olmstead, Moyer street, after an illness of five months. He was born in Herkimer county Nov. 18, 1864, a son of James and Mary Skinner Pierce.
  Survivors are one daughter, Miss Mildred Pierce of this village, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  The funeral service was held Saturday at 2 p.m., at the Houghtaling funeral home with Rev. Cornelius Dykhulzen, pastor of the Reformed church, officiating. Burial will he In the Carlisle cemetery in the spring.

  SOUTH COLUMBIA - Oct. 7.—The death of Mrs. O. F. Pierce which occurred at her home Sept. 29, removed from this place a noble. kind hearted Christian character, Mrs. Pierce's maiden name was Cora I. Bronner. She was born in the town of Warren in 1863. In 1884 she married Orlando F. Pierce, who has the sympathy, of many friends in this great bereavement. Mrs. Pierce bad been a sufferer for over two years and during that time had manifested great patience and fortitude, but after loving hands had done all that any. power on earth could do she died as calmly as she had lived, trusing God as her redeemer. She was beloved by all who knew her best. The funeral was held from ber late residence at Orendorfs Corners Oct. 2, Rev. Mr. Cross officiating, assisted by Rev. F. V. W. Lehman; Interment at Cemetery Hill. The profusion of floral tributes attested to the high esteem in which the deceased was held by her many friends. She leaves to mourn her death a loving
husband, father, stepmother and one brother. They will miss her oh, so much.

  Canajoharie ... Mrs. Rena S. Pierce, 69, wife of Orlando Pierce, died last night at her home, 87 Moyer street. She had been ill about six weeks.
  Mrs. Pierce was born June 18, 1879 in Carlisle, the daughter of Henry and Celia Hunt Sweetman. She spent ths great part of her life in Carlisle. The family came to Canajoharie about four and one half years ago.
  She attended the Carlisle Presbyterian church.
  Besides her husband, the only survivor is one daughter, Miss Mildred Pierce of Canajoharie.
  Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Lana funeral home. The Rev. Herbert Guth of the Reformed church will officiate. The body will be placed in the Canajoharie Falls cemetery vault until Spring when burial will be made in the Carlisle cemetery.

  Miss Mildred Pierce of Canajoharie, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Orlando F. Pierce, and Everett Ludlam of Canajoharie, formerly of Cooperstown, were married at noon on Saturday, Oct. 8, in the chapel of the Canajoharie Methodist Church with Rev. Albert M. Brockway, pastor, officiating.
  Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ludlam, of Holyoke, Mass., son and daughter-in-law of the bridegroom, were the attendants.
  The bride wore a street-length dress of aqua taffeta with beige accessories and a corsage of white pompons. The honor attendant wore blue-gray taffeta with navy blue accessories and a corsage of pink pompons.
  After a reception at Stone Lodge, Palatine Bridge, the couple left for a wedding trip to the New England States.
  They will reside at 87 Moyer street, Canajoharie.
  The bride is employed in the laboratory of Arkell and Smith's Co. and the bridegroom is employed at the Beech-Nut Packing Co.

  Milo Pierce, 80, of Mohawk, brother of Orlando Pierce of Canajoharie, died Friday at his home. He retired several years ago from the Derby Sportswear Company in Herkmer.
  Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the Graves Funeral Home in Mohawk with the Rev. Russell Rauscher of Ilion officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Center Cemetery.

  Mohawk — Mrs. Arabella Pierce, 78, Cemetery Road, Frankfort, died yesterday in Ilion Hospital after a long illness.
   She was born May 6, 1881, in Jordanville, a daughter of Ai and Detta Snell Heath. In 1903, she was married to Milo
Pierce. He died Sept. 19, 1952.
  The family lived in Jordanville until the death of Mr. Pierce.
  She was a member of the Ilion Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
  She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Linden Lyon of Dolgeville; a son, Gordon Pierce of Middletown, Pa; a brother, Clark
Heath, of Chittenango; a nephew; several nieces.
  The funeral will be at 2 tomorrow from the Graves Funeral Home, 48 E. Main St., with the Rev. Russell Rauscher presiding minister of the Ilion Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Center Cemetery.
  Calling hours this afternoon and evening at the funeral home.
