 - Newspaper Article (Watertown Daily times, NY, Saturday, August 16, 1919)
Philadelphia, Aug. 16.—Mrs. Wilbur Standish, mother of Scott Standish, who died Monday in the Onondaga County hospital, today received a letter from the matron of the hospital. The boy died of typhoid fever in tbe the Syracuse hospital, but did not disclose his identity, thinking that it would cause needless worry oat the home of his parents in Philadelphia. He was ill about three weeks in the Onondaga County hospital. The following letter was recieved by Mrs. Wilbur Standish from Nillie C. Driscoll, the matron:
  "My dear Mrs. Standish: --
" I feel that I want to tell you something about your dear boy's last illness. He came to the hospital July 16 very ill with typhoid fever. We tried very hard to save him as well as he did himself, as he did everything we asked him, He was a good patient, the nurses were all attached to him. He did very nicely until last week, when the long run of fever seemed to tell on him and he grew delirious. When I realised that he could not live, Which was on Sunday, I tried to get your son on the telephone.
"I wish I could say something to comfort you, but I know I cannot, but I hope our Heavenly Father will in all his goodness camfort and keep you.
"He did not want for anything in his sickness. God knows that perhaps your boy was taken to save you both from some greater sorrow.
  "Yours most sincerely,
   "Nelllie C. Driscoll,
    "R. W. Matron."
