  Fonda, Nov, 27.—Henry Getman, aged 61, for many years a well known resident of Fonda, died at 9:30 o'clock Monday night at the Nathan Littauer hospital in Gloversville of acute appendicitis and peritonitis. Mr. Getman was born in the town of Ephratab, Fulton county, but has spent most of his life iiIn Fonda, where for a number of years he has been superintendent of the street and water works department He was a member of the Reformed church of Fonda, of which he was an elder in the consistory, and was also affiliated with the M. M. M. society of the Fultonville Methodist church. He was also affiliated with the Fonda lodge of Odd Fellows. Mr. Getman is survived by his wife, a daughter, Miss Anna Getman, of Fonda, and a brother, William Getman, of Toledo, O. The funeral will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Jesse F. Durfee, of the Reformed church, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery, Sand Flats.

 - Obituary (Fulton County Republican, Johnstown, NY, Thursday, February 13, 1908)
  Mrs. Bernard Lynaugh, aged 46, died at her late home in Scotch Bush Saturday. Death was finally due to pneumonia, having been confined to her bed for a week past.
  She was a member of the Methodist church of this city.
  The surviving relatives are, two daughters, Mrs. Deloss Palmateer, of Gloversville; Miss Mabel Lynaugh of Scotch Bush; two brothers, Norman and Marvin, both of the town of Johnstown: one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Frederick, of the town of Johnstown.
  The funeral was held Tuesday at 1 o'clock, Rev. M. D. Jump officiating. The remains were placed in the receiving vault of the Johnstown cemetery.

 - Obituary (THE LEADER-REPUBLICAN, GLOVERSVILLE AND JOHNSTOWN N. Y., MONDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1948)
  Bernard D. Lynaugh, aged 86 years, well known retired farmer, passed away this morning at 6:45 at his home, 1 West street. He had been in failing health for the past two years.
   He was born in the Town of Johnstown, February 26, 1862, the son of Patrick and Margaret (McGraw) Lynaugh.
  After receiving his education in the Old Johnstown Academy, Mr. Lynaugh taught school eight years in the rural districts, but for the greater part of his life was a farmer in the Town of Johnstown. He retired five years ago.
  He was an attendant of St. Mark's Lutheran church and a charter member of Kolencka Grange, 1441.
  He was married twice. His first wife, Sarah Catherine Frederick, died in 1908, and he was wed a year later to Emma Walrath who survives, together with two daughters, Mrs. Charles Peck of Mayfield, and Mrs. Howard Murdock, Fonda; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
  The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 at the Cole funeral home. The Rev. A. L. Dillenbeck, D. D., of St. Mark's will officiate, and burial will be made in the Johnstown cemetery.

 - Obituary (THE MORNING HERALD, GLOVERSVILLE AND JOHNSTOWN, N. Y., THURSDAY, OCTOBER, 1947)
  Norman Frederick, 74, of 19 Second street, Gloversville, died yesterday afternoon at 12:30 in the Littauer hospital, where he was taken after suffering a broken leg in a fall over the weekend while crossing Broad street in that city.
  He was born December 9, 1872 in the Town of Ephratah, son of Nelson and Lany Ann (Getman) Frederick.
  He was a farmer practically his entire lifetme in the Town of Johnstown. His wife, Christina (Gross) Frederick, died in this city in 1945.
  The survivors are five sons, Nelson of Ilion, Frank of Palatine Bridge, Raymond of Glen Cove, L. T. William of Mohawk, and Harlin of Johnstown; five daughters, Mrs. Joseph P. Cerrone, Mrs. Henri Causse and Miss Christina Frederick, Johnstown, Mrs. Clarence J. Roddy of Pittsfield, Mass., and Mrs. Walter Chapman of Washington, D. D. [probably DC]; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Frederick of this city; 18 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
  The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Cole funeral home. The Rev. Frank Jay Reid will officiate and interment will be in the Ephratah cemetery.


Christina Gross

  Mrs. Christine (Gross) Frederick, aged 59, died Saturday night at 11 at 101 South William street, where she resided. She had been in ill health for some time.
  She was born December 23, 1885, in the Town of Johnstown, daughter of John and Emma (Hanson) Gross. She resided in the Town of Johnstown on the old Gross farm until about live yearn ago, when she moved to the city.
  Her great, great grandfather, John Henry Gross, came to this country from Germany. In order to pay his passage, he bound himself to a wealthy Quaker, who, after some years, having confidencc in the young man, set him up in business as a traveling salesman. He carried his stock of goods from house to house, until he found his way into the Mohawk Valley thence to Johnstown, where he bought a large tract of several hundred acres, west of Johnstown.
  Mrs. Frederick was united in marriage about 44 years ago to Norman Frederick, who survives.
  The other survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Henri W. Causse and Mrs. Joseph Cerrone of this city; Mrs. Clarence Roddy of Pittsford, Mass.; Mrs. Walter Chapman of Washington, D. C, and Miss Christine Frederick, this city; five sons, Nelson Frederick of Ilion; Harlan Frederick of this city, and Ensign Raymond H. Frederick, U.S. Navy; William H. Frederick, seaman 1 c. U.S. Navy, and Frank Frederick of Canajoharie; four sisters, Mrs. William Hatchen of Wellington, Ohio; Mrs. Edward Hatchen of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Mrs. H. A. Honeywell of Santa Monica. Calif., and Mrs. Ernest Pilgrim of Ballston Lake; one brother, Frank Gross of New Jersey; fourteen  grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
  The body was removed to the Wassung & Brown funeral home, to be prepared for interment, and will be returned this morning to 101 South William street, where the funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2. The Rev. Frederick H. Belden, rector of St. John's Episcopal church will officiate. Interment will be in Johnstown cemetery.

 - Newspaper Article (The Leader Republican, Johnstown, NY, Wednesday, September 13, 1937)
  Norman Frederick Jr., 24 of 1 East Fulton street was found dead this morning about 8:30 on the newly constructed Rockwood - Lasselsville road, near the Happy Home. The young man was found lying face down on the concrete by a fellow workman on the construction job.
  Frederick left home this morning and drove to the paving job where he was employed, apparently in his usual good health. When he was missed by the other members of the crew one of the men investigated and found Frederick as described at a point in front of the truck which he was to have driven today.
  No one in the vicinity could say whether he had tried to crank the truck and was struck by the crank or had just dropped over. Although it appeared Frederick was dead the body was placed in an automobile and brought to the office of Dr. B. A. Winne who pronounced him dead and notified Dr. Frank G. Calder, coroner.
  The latter ordered the body taken to the Fulton County Laboratory in the Nathan Littauer hospital fee an autopsy.
  Dr. Calder reported this afternoon, although the autopsy had been performed, the report was not complete and he was not ready to render a verdict as to the cause of death.
  It was learned the young man was struck in the head by a piece of lumber yesterday and received a slight abrasion. Whether or not this injury contributed to the cause of death could not be learned.
  Norman Frederick, Jr., was born in the Town of Johnstown, May 10, 1913, the son of Norman Frederick and Christine Gross. He had spent his entire life In this section. He was a young man who was popular among a large circle of friends by whom the news of his untimely passing will be received with sorrow.
  The survivors are his widow, Beatrice Mahar Frederick, to whom he was married in July; his parents, residing in the Town of Johnstown; five brothers, Nelson Frederick, Ilion; Frank, Harland, William and Raymond Frederick, Town of Johnstown; five sisters, Mrs. Joseph Cerrone, Mrs. Henri W. Causse. Johnstown; Miss Dorothy Frederick, Miss Christine Frederick and Miss Clara Frederick, Town of Johnstown; also several nieces and nephews.
  The remains were removed to the A. G. Cole funeral home to be prepared for burial.
  Announcement of the funeral arrangements will be made later.

  Miss Beatrice Mahar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Watson Mahar, 1 East Fulton street, and Norman Frederick, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs., Norman Frederick. Johnstown, R D., were married in the parsonage of St. Mark's Lutheran church Saturday afternoon, July 31.
  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Andrew L. Dillenbeck, D. D.
  Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Christman, the former a cousin of the bride were the attendants.
  The newlyweds have taken up their residence at 1 East Fulton Street.
  Both are well known and popular in the city. Mr. frederick is employed by the Arborio Construction company, now engaged in constructing the Happy Home-Lasselsville concrete highway.

  Mr. Raymond H. Frederick, 80, of Kansas City, Missouri, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Carondelet Manor.
   He was born October 14, 1923 in Johnstown, a son of the late Norman and Christine Gross Frederick.
   Ray received his bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy 1944 to 1946 on active duty, in the U.S. Naval Reserve 1946 to 1950 and the U.S. Navy active duty 1950 to 1952, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander. Ray had been employed by Reynolds Metals Company, retiring after 42 years of service in Research and Development, Customer Sales Service, Product Manager-all in aluminum powders and pastes-and at retirement Regional Representative, Aluminum Powders and Paste/Midwestern Region.
   Survivors include one brother, William Frederick of Ilion, New York; numerous nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services were held on Sunday at the Muehlebach Funeral Home, Kansas City, Missouri.
   Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Johnstown Cemetery.
   Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

  A member of the First Baptist Church, she was employed by the Diana Knitting Company until retiring in 1960.
  Mrs. Frederick was the widow of Harry Frederick, who died in 1958. The werre married in 1902.

  Many friends from here attended services, which were held Thursday afternoon in the Vermillion Baptist church, for Mrs. Getman. She had made her home here with her daughter, Mrs. Lee Cusick, and had been in Wisconsinthe past two months with her daughter Frances. Four daughters, Mrs. Frances Light, Mrs. Inez Cusick, Mrs. Gene Wright and Justine Getman, and three sons, Richard, Frank and Bernard Getman, and eight grandchildren, survive.   She was born in Wampsville, daughter of Josiah and Margaret Nellis Lasher. She lived in Nelliston most of her life before coming to the home of her daughter. She was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church.
  She leaves another daughter, Mrs. Thomas Gaskell, Canajoharie.
 The funeral will be at 2 Monday from the Lenz Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Hilbrands, pastor of the Fort Plain Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Plain Cemetery.

  Fort Plain, April 16.—Papers demanding damages to the amount ot $25,000 for alleged breach of promise to marry have been served in tho action brought by Miss Laura Neach of Nelllston against Nellis Shaver of Canajoharie, and unless settlement is effected meantime the case will probably be tried at the term of supreme court to be convened May 31. Fox Sponable of this place is attorney for tho plaintiff and N. J. Herrlck of Canajoharie for the defendant.
  Miss Neach alleges that Mr. Shaver has on several occasions failed to live up to promises to marry her, even after going so far as obtaining a marriage license. He is a well known and successful real estate man of Canajoharie, and Miss Neach was long employed in the Maylender store in this village. Mr. Shaver is a divorced man and his former wife is a resident of Canajoharie.

  CANAJOHARIE - Nellis P. Shaver, 87, of 98 Rock St. died yesterday at his home after a
long illness.
  Mr. Shaver was a native of the Town of Palatine and had lived in Canajoharie for the past 73 years. He served as justice of the peace in the Town of Canajoharie for 14 years retiring in 1957. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the Men of St. Mark's, was a charter member and past president of Fort Rensselaer Club and a member of the Canajoharie Fish and Game Club.
  He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Laura Neach Shaver; a brother, L. James Shaver of Canajoharie; a sister, Mrs Alice Case of Coxsackie. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
  The funeral service will be held at the Lenz Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev Theodore Hammar, pastor of St. Mark's Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Fort Plain Cemetery. The funeral home will be open tonight and tomorrow afternoon and evening.

   CANAJOHARIE — Mrs. Marion Neach Gaskell of Canajoharie, 73, died Monday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past week.
  Mrs. Gaskell was born in Nelliston on March 14, 1893, the daughter of Walter and Ida Lasher Neach. She and her late husband, Thomas L. Gaskell, had resided in Albany for 37
years.
  Since Mr. Gaskell's death in 1960, she had made her home with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Nellls Shaver, 98 Rock St., Canajoharie. She was a member of the Fort
Plain Reformed Church.
  The only survivors in addition to her sister, Mrs. Shaver, are several cousins.
  Services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lenz Funeral Home in Canajoharie, with the Rev. H. T. Hilbrands, pastor of the Fort Plain Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be made in the Fort Plain Cemetery.

  Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Gray funeral home for Clark, Nellis, who died Monday in Amsterdam City Hospital after being a patient for eight days.
  Mr. Nellis was 91, and for many years a resident of Nelliston. He was born in Ephratah, September 30, 1859, a son of Rensselaer and Sarah Ann Empire Nellis. He was engaged in highway work for a long time and was employed on the Barge Canal prior to his retirement a number of years ago. Mr. Nellis was the last surviving member of the old Stone Arabia Drum Corps.
  Survivors include his wife, Georgianna Foote Nellis, Nelliston: three, sons, Leon Nellis, Cansjoharie, Howard Nellis, Nelliston, and Claude Nellis, Utica; a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Lasher, Nelliston; four sisters, Mrs. Harry V. Berry, this village, Mrs. John Darby, Johnstown, Mrs. Bertha Mason and Mrs. Lettie Johnson, Gloversville; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
  The Rev. Chester C. Chilton, pastor of the Reformed Church, conducted services. Burial was in Fort Plain Cemetery.

  Mrs. Georgianna Foote Nellis, 85, widow of Clark Nellis of Nelllston, died Wednesday morning at the Ft. Plain Convalescent home, after a long illness. She was born March 20, 1867, in Greene County, a daughter of George and Catherine Barnett Foote.
  Mrs. Nellis has been a resident of this section for many years and had lived in Nelliston for the past 26 years. Her husband died about one year ago. Mrs. Nellis was a member of the Ephratah Reformed Church. Before her marriage she was a grade, school teacher and later taught music.
  The survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Clyde Lasher, Nelliston; three sons, Leon Nellis, Canajoharie; Howard Nellis , Nelllston, and Claude Nellis, Utica; five grandchildren.
  The body waa removed to the Gray Funeral Home, Willett Street where the funeral will be held Friday at 2 p. m, Rev. Chester C. Chilton, minister of the Reformed Church, officiating, with burial in Ft. Plain Cemetery.

  Charles Nellis, resident of Johnstown, died in the Amsterdam City Hospital at 12:30 o'clock this morning. He had been a patient in the hospital for eight days.
  Mr. Nellis was born at Stone Arabia June 20, 1864, a son of the late Rensselaer and Sarah Empie Nellis. For a number of years he resided in the Town of Ephratah where he followed farming. His wife, Mary E. Nellis, died May 28, 1934. He was a member of the Reformed Church of Ephratah.
  Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Nora Hatfield, Johnstown, Mrs. George Miller and Mrs. Herman Liebelt, Amsterdam, Mrs. Clara Smullens and Mrs. Richard Tyher, Gloversville, and Mrs. Charles Smullens, Johnstown; four sons, Wesley, Eugene and Melvin Nellis, Johnstown, and Raymond Nellis, Gloversville; one brother, Clark Nellis, Nelliston; four sisters, Mrs. Harry Berry, Fort Plain, Mrs. Alvah Johnson, Gloversville, Mrs. John Darby and Mrs. Fred Mason, Johnstown; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

  Mrs. Ruth Miller, 69, of Amsterdam, a former Johnstown resident, died unexpectedly early yesterday morning at her home. She had been in declining health the past four or five months.
  She was born Sept 9, 1897, at Fort Plain RD 4, the daughter Charles and Mary Elizabeth Abel, Nellis. She spent her early years at Johnstown, moving to Amsterdam in 1935 when she was married to George Miller. Her husband died April 21, 1961.
  While a resident of Johnstown, she was employed at the Northrup Glove Company here She had been been employed at Chief Textiles. Amsterdam, the past six years.
  She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church Amsterdam. She also was a member of the American Legion auxiliary in Amsterdam.
  She is survived by three brothers, Eugene Nellis of Johnstown. Raymond Nellis of Mayfield and Melvin Nellis of Gloveersville, five sisters, Mrs Nora Hathfield and Mrs. Mildred Smullens of Johnstown, Mrs. Clara Smullens and Mrs Inita Tyner of Gloversville and Mrs. Eva Leibelt of Amsterdam; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

  The marriage of Miss Ruth Nellis, 213 East Main street, this city to George Miller of Amsterdam, which was solemnized, Saturday, April 21, in Canaan, Conn., was announced yesterday.
  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Charles J. Palmer, and the attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Chester Saltsman of this city. The bride and her attendant wore dark blue, with accessories to match, and a shoulder corsage of sweet peas.
  The bride presented the matron of honor with a vanity case, and the bridegroom's gift to the best man was a leather billfold.
  On the night preceding the wedding, the bride was guest of honor at a pre-nuptial event held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Phillips in Schenectady. She received a number of gifts.

 - Obituary (Leader-Herald, Gloversville - Johnstown, NY, Friday, February 5, 1954)
  Dr. Richard H. Tyner, 58, of 17 First Avenue, died unexpectedly yesterday afternoon in Miami, Fla., of a heart attack. He and Mrs. Tyner have spent the laat several winters in the South.
   Dr. Tyner was born in Canandiagua, June 19, 1896 and received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees at Columbia University in 1930. He took his resident training in the Hospital of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.
  During World War I he served as a lieutenant in the Army.
  He came to Gloversville in 1931 and had resided here since.
  Dr. Tyner waa a member of the Fulton County Medical Society, Foresters, Moose, Elks and the American
Legion.
  Besides his wife, Inita, he is survived by a brother Dr. James Tyner of Newark and a sister. Complete details were not available today.
  The body was shipped to the Cole Funeral Home East Main Street, Johnstown. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

  Mrs. Anne E. Abel, 69, of 69 Fourth avenue, died of a heart ailment at 8:10 yesterday morning the Nathan Littauer hospital. She had been a patient in ths hospital one day.
  Mrs. Abel was horn in Ephralah, February 27, 1889, came to Gloversvllle five years ago.
  The survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Maynard Folmsbee of Gloversville; one son Prof, Chester Abel of Galway; five siaters, Mrs. Fred Mason, and Mrs. Alvah Johnson, of Gloversvllle; Mrs. John Darby and Miss Malvina Nellis of Johnstown; Mrs. Harry Berry of Fort Plain: and two brothers, Clark Nellis of Nelliston and Charles Nellis of Johnstown.
  The funeral will be held at the Clarence Brown funeral home, 301 North Main street, Friday afternoon at 2. The Rev. C. L. Schaertel of St. James Lutheran church will officiate. Burial will be in the Ephratah cemetery.

  John H. Abel, 71, of 6 Wood street, died at 3:30 yesterday morning at the Nathan Littauer hospital after a short illness.
  Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Clarence E. Brown funeral home, 301 North Main street Rev. Clarence L. Schaertel, pastor of the St. James Lutheran church, will officiate. Interment will be made in the family plot in the Ephratah cemetery.
  Mr. Abel was born in Canajoharie and lived there until a year ago when he came to Gloversville. For 14 years, he was a valued employe of the Beechnut Packing company in Canajoharie.
  The survivors are his wife, Anna: one daughter, Mrs. Maynard Folmsbee: one son, Chester K. Abel, all of Gloversville; one brother, George Abel of Eahratah; one sister, Mrs. Calvin Wat of Utica; also five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

  Mrs. Alida N. Berry, 93, died July 29 at the Mabbett Convalescent Home in Fort Plain.
  She was born in the Town of Ephratah on October 29, 1872, a daughter of Rensselaer and Sarah Ann Nellis. Deceased was a widow of Harry V. Berry.
  Mrs. Berry was a resident of Fort Plain for more than 40 years and attended the Fort Plain Reformed Church.
  Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Eben Lamphere and Mrs. George Clark, both of Fort Plain; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters; nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services were held on Monday from the Gray Funeral Home in Fort Plain with the Reverend H. T. Hilbrands of the Fort Plain Reformed Church officiating.
  Burial took place in Fort Plain Cemetery.

  FORT PLAIN, May 23.—Harry V. Berry, 67, former mayor of this village and widely known lumberman, died at 10:35 A. M, yesterday at his home after a few month's illness.
  Born in the Town of Ephratah. June 14, 1874, he was a son of John and Anna Empie Berry. He started in the lumber business in 1903 and was a head of, the firm of H. V. Berry which has lumber yards both here and in Canajoharie. A Republican, he had served as village trustee and was a former member of the Board of Education. He was elected mayor in 1931 and held office for a two-year term. Mr. Berry was a member of the Fort Plain Community Club and the Northeastern Lumber Association.
  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alida Nellls Berry; two daughters. Mrs. Eben F. Lamphere and Mrs. George Clark, Fort Plain; a son, Guy, Fort Plain; five grandchildren; one brother, Frank, Ephtatah.
  The funeral will be at 2 o'clock Wednesday at the Gray Funeral Home with the Rev. Evert R. Kruizenga, minister of the Reformed Church, officiating. The body, will remain at the residence on Webster Street until Wednesday noon. Interment will be in the Fort Plain Cemetery..

  Burial wilt be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
  Mrs. Darby was born in Nelliston where she had lived most of her life. She was the widow of John Darby, who died in 1951.
  She was of the Baptist faith.
  Survivors are a son, Harold Darby of Northville; two sisters, Mrs. Lettie Johnson, Gloversville and Mrs. Bertha Mason of Johnstown; a grandson, a great-grandson, several nieces and nephews.

  After having been in failing health for three years. John Darby, aged 80 years, died yeaterday afternoon at 5 at his home, 301 North Market atreet.
  He was born May 30, 1870 in Ephratah. aon of George and Jane (Soules) Darby. He was united in marriage July 2, 1893 in Rockwood Methodiat church by the Rev L. D. Van Arnam to Cora Nellis who survives.
  Mr. Darby had been a Johnstown reaident 44 years and was employed for many years at the Henry J. Stoller livery stable. Ha was last employed by the State Highway Department.
  The survivors. besides his wife, are one daughter, Edna, residing at home; son, Harold, of Northville; grandson, two granddaughtera, nieces and nephews.
  The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 from the Cole funeral home. The Rev Harlow W. Parsons will officiate Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Sand Flats.

  She was a member of St. Mark's church and was last employed at the factory of the Bixby Glove Co. in Gloversville.
  The survivors are her mother, one brother Harold, of Northville, and a nephew.
  The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 in the Cole funeral home.
  The Rev. A. L. Dillenbeck. D. D., will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery.
