 - Newspaper Article, The Leader - Republican, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Tuesday, June 28, 1951)
 - No trace has been found of Wallace R Burhans, aged 56, former resident, who mysteriously disappeared June 9 from a fishing boat off the Florida coast.
His wife before her marriage was Miss Grace Klock of Gloversville, and she at one time operated Becky's Beauty Shop here.
First word was received by the latter's sister. Mrs. Ella Beck. 4 Charles street, a week or ten days ago, and the following story is taken from an Albany paper:
ALBANY Albany relatives of Wallace R. Burhans, 55, yesterday were awaiting further word from Florida on the former Albany man's disappearance June 9 from a fishing boat in the Gulf Stream off the Florida coast.
Burhans, a resident of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. since leaving Albany 14 years ago, had been working part time on the "Polaris" a converted Navy PT  boat, being used as a commercial fishing craft, according to word received by relatives.
Mrs. Josephine Shoonkaer an aunt of Burhans, said she received word of his disappearance in a letter from his wife.
The letter said Burhans disappeared while the boat was on a fishing trip. Burhans, it was reported, left the bridge to go below for equipment and failed to return. Crew members on the lower deck said he had not come down.
A search of the waters in the area failed to turn up any trace of the missing man.
A veteran of service with the AEF in France in World War I, Burhans served in the Navy in World War II and was an instructor on boats of the type from which he disappeared, Mrs. Schoonmaker said.
He worked for several Albany firms as an automotive mechanic before going to Florida, she said. A brother, Roger Burhans, lives at 395 Clinton avenue.

Additional - "The crew had been out all day June 9. The fish were running in the Gulf Stream, so that night they came home for additional supplies and returned to sea almost Immediately," Mrs. Burhans wrote.
"Crewmen believe Wallace either had a dizzy spell or became fouled in the anchor chain and toppled into the water."
