On Wednesday, May 2, Chauncey Getman, who had been ill only a short time, passed away at his home on Cayadutta street, and by his death Johnstown is called upon to mourn the loss of a widely known and highly esteemed citizen. The deceased was taken ill with a severe attack of the grip on the 20th of last month, but by the best of care and medical treatment he gradually grew better until last Thursday, when he went out of doors for a short time. This caused a relapse from which he never recovered gradually sinking from that time until the end.
The deceased was born in the town of Johnstown on the old "Indian road," being a son of Darius and Delia Getman, and had lived to the age of forty five years and some months. After being married to Mary C Sponnable, October 6, 1870, he resided at Ephratah for a time and in company with his wife removed to this city where he has since resided with the exception of two years which he spent on the De Graff farm, south of Fonda. During his nineteen years career in Johnstown he gained the confidence of his many acquaintances as well as the public, occupying the office of superintendent of streets for two years, the duties of which position he performed faithfully and well. When he first came to this city he became a member of Cayadutta lodge, No. 218. 1. O. O. F., and had always been active in furthering the interests of that order and at the time of his death held the position of financial secretary and was also High Priest in Johnstown encampment, No. 133, I. O. O. F. As a member of the M. E. church he took a deep interest in religious matters and was not only a regular attendant but ready to do his duty at any and all times. He was a carpenter by trade and as a citizen possessed many excellent traits of character. Being of a kind and genial disposition he made frieuds readily and by those who came in contact with him. either in a business or social way. The deceased will be greatly missed by the citizens of Johnstown in general, but their loss is not to be compared with that of his family, in which he was a true and devoted father and husband, in every sense of the term.
The survivors of the deceased are his widow and three children, namely: Chauncey, Ward, and Mrs. Marvin Edlck of this city, his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Darius Getman of Ephratah, one sister, Mrs. Lemuel Martin of Ephratah.

Marriage Notes for Philmore G Getman and Elizabeth Wormuth

 - Wedding Announvrment (Fulton County republican, Johnstown, NY, Thursday, December 28, 1893
On the evening of December 21st, occurred one of the pleasantest events that has attracted our attention for a long time. It was the marriage of Mr. Filmore Getman, of Stone Arabia, to Miss Libby Wormouth, of Johnstown, Miss Bertha V. Getman. of Tribes Hill, acting as Maid of Honor. There were guests to the number of about seventy five present to witness the ceremony. Rev. JL. D. Van Arnam of the M. E. church of Ephratah was present and tied the knot. Mrs. Norman Getman officiated at the piano playing the wedding march for the occasion. A great deal of credit is due Mr. and Mrs. Norman Getman, of Stone Arabia, for the royal manner in which they entertained the guests of the newly married couple, the event taking place at their home. The spread was to say the least, immense, the tables fairly groaning under their loads of the many palate tempting courses, the more substantial as well as the many delicacies of which were prepared by the hands of Mrs. Norman Getman herself and for which she long ago became noted, as many who have had the pressure of enjoying her hospitality in the past can testify. Very soon after the wedding repast came the sounds of music, and the tripping of the light fantastic being next in order, the company enjoying themselves in this way until none who were present were aware of the nearness of the approach of another day, so quickly did the time pass; and when it became apparent that it was time to say good bye it was with a sigh of regret that the night had not been longer. The writer's best wishes go with the happy couple for their future happiness and prosperity. Below we give the list of some of the presents:
