On Friday last occurred the death of Anna Yates, wife of Byron D. Rose. She was stricken several months ago with that dread disease consumption, and as is common with the deceitful nature of the malady, her friends have been torn by conflicting hopes and fears for many weeks. Mrs. Rose was thirty-four years of age, and was the daughter of John Yates of this village. She was a kind neighbor and a tender, loving wife and mother, and the three little ones she has left have lost in her a good friend and a wise councelor, and her husband a true ---. She leaves, besides the relatives already mentioned, her father, borther and two sisters. The funeral services were held from her late residence, on Sunday. Rev. O.D. Reed conducted services.

FIRE.—The two-story frame building, No. 88 Main street, owned by Mr Cyrus W. Stewart, was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning. The basement was occupied as a meat market by Mr. Allen, whose loss is estimated at one hundred dollars; no insurance. On the first story was located Mrs. Wm. Miller's millinery store. Her loss was complete. Insured for seven hundred dollars in stock, store fixtures and goods held in trust. The second story was occupied as a dwelling by Edward Kingsbury, who lost nearly all of his household goods, and was insured for three hundred dollars. The building was insured for fifteen hundred dollars. How the fire originated is not known, but is supposed to have caught in Mr. Kingsbury's rooms, from a defective stove pipe. The firemen responded to the alarm promptly and worked well. Through their efforts all the adjoining property was saved, though the flames, fanned by a brisk west wind, at one time threatened general destruction among the closely built wooden structures of the neighborhood.
