 - Obituary (Richfield Springs Mercury, NY, Thursday, September 24, 1953)
  Death entered our small community on Thursday morning, Sept. 3,
1953, and removed, one of Its oldest residents, Mrs. Oe F. Gifford. Mrs. Gifford had been in ill health for several months but had been confined to her bed for three weeks.
  Mrs. Gifford was born in Little Falls, January 1, 1871 daughter of William David and Christy Ann Smith Snyder. She was married to Frank Gifford on January 1, 1896 in Dolgeville. They moved to the vicinity of Jordanville where they lived all their married life. Mr. Gifford passed away February 13, 1924.
  Mrs. Gifford. was a member of the Warren Baptist Church in Jordanville, the Jordanville Ladies Aid, Jordanville Grange No. 671, Herkimer County Pomona Grange and the New York State Grange.
  Mrs. Gifford was a woman of sterling character, a loving mother and a kind neighbor. Truly it may be said of the passing of such a beautiful Christian character, "To live in hearts and leave behind is not to die."
  Deceased is survived by two sons, Raymond with whom she resided and Lynn of Jordanville; five grand children, Mrs. Robert Elwood, Gordon and Derward Gifford, Frank and Peter Gifford and four great grandchildren.
  Services were held Saturday, Sept 5 at 2:00 p.m. from the McGrath Funeral home in Richfield Springs with the Rev. Bowen Hawkins officiating. Interment was made in Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville.

  Mrs. Thomas Ryan of State street has left to visit with her daughters, Mrs. Lyle Bushnell in Ilion and Miss Agnes Ryan, physical director of the public schools in Niagara Falls.

 - Obituary (The Morning Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Thursday, August 15, 1946)
  DOLGEVILLE - Friends were shocked Monday night to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. Eve C. Ryan. Although she had been in poor health since March, she had been on the gain for the past two weeks and was able to be downtown Monday afternoon. Her death occurred at 9 in the evening at her home, 24 State street. Cause of death was embolism.
  Mrs. Ryan was born in the Town of Manheim, the daughter of David and Christina Smith Snyder and was one of a family of six children. All of her life had been spent in Dolgeville. She was a member of St. Joseph's church, a charter member of the D. A. R. and a direct descendant of Capt. Frederick Getman. She had always been active in work of the church and fraternal organizations but ill health forced her to relinquish these activities. For many years she was a director of minstrel and other home talent productions and entertainment sponsored by the churches and local organisations and gave freeely of her time and talent to these activities in which she enjoyed working.
  She was married to Thomas E. Ryan, who survives, with two daughters, Miss Agnes Ryan, supervisor at the Whitesboro Colony, Whitesboro, and Mrs. Lyle Bushnell, Buffalo; one brother, Daniel Loucks. Richfield Springs: one sister, Mrs. Oe Glfford of Jordanville, N. Y. ; one grandson, Thomas W. Bushnell. and two great-grandsons, David and Leslie Bushnell; several nieces and nephews.
  The funeral will be held Friday at 8:80 at St. Joseph's church. Rev. John A. Fltzgerald will officiate. Burial wilt be in St Joseph's cemetery.

  Dolgeville - Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Carl Bailey, formerly of this village, which occurred this week at a hospital in Sayre, Pa. where she had been a patient for several weeks.
  Mrs. Bailey was born in Oppenheim, Feb. l l, 1870 and spent her early life in this vicinity. She was married to Mr. Bailey 35 years ago and the couple resided for some time in this village, later moving to Elkland, Pa.
  Mrs. Ballry is survived by her husband: by a son; Gordon; by her mother. Mrs. Adelia Cross if this place; by a sister. Mrs. Maby Mary Woolever of New Haven, Ind., and by a brother, Byron Cross of this village. Mrs. Cross and her son Byron are in  Elkland to attend the funeral.

  James C. Getman, 74,father of Wesley Adam Getman, Baldwinsville Academy athletic coach, died at 1:30 Monday ufternoon at his home, 7 Getman st., Gloversville. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Gloversville. The Rev. W. C. Spicer of the First Presbyterian Church officiated and burial was in Prospect Hill cemetery.
  According to the obituary published in Tuesday's Gloversville Morning Herald: ''Mr. Getman was former Alderman from Ward 1 and assistant postmaster at one time. He went to work Monday morning at the Speare Glove Company and was taken ill and moved to his home. Death was caused by a heart-ai1ment, according to Dr. Joseph J. Thompson, who attended him.
  'Mr. Getman was born in Broadalbin, June 20, 1866, thus celebrated his 74th birthday last Thursday. He  came to Gloversville 72 years ago and had since made his home here, taking an active part in civil and fraternal affairs.
  Mr. Getman was a bookkeeper by profession and for two score years until the Littauer corporation was dissolved, was employed there. After it's dissolution he worked at various places and had been at the Speare shop for the past seven years.
  He was elected Alderman from Ward 1 and served two terms. He was also the assistant postmaster of Gloversville when George C, Potter was postmaster.
  Mr Getman was an Attendant of the First Presbyterian church, a member of the Gloversville lodge, 228,  IOOF and Erich ten, 200 of Maccabees.
  The survivors are his wife, Emily Louise Cox Getman,:on son Wesley Adam Getman of Baldwinsville; one daughter, Mrs. Marvin F. Morenus of Gloversville: on brother, Thoms E. Getman, one sister, NMiss Margaret Getman; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in Gloversville.

  Mrs. Emily C. Getman, 81, of 7 Getman Street, widow of James C. Getman, died at the Grandhaven Nursing Home at 2:30 this morning. She had been a patien there for three years.
  She was born in Gloversville Nov. 6 1878, and had always reside here. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Womrn's Association of the church. She was a long-time member of the Daughters of St. George and a member of the Golden Age Senior Citizens Club.
  Survivors are one son, Wesley A. Getman of Baldwinsville: one daughter, Mrs. Marvin Morenus of Gloversville: on sister, Mrs. Nellie Houghteling of Gloversville: five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

  Mrs. Margaret H. Getman, 80, widow of William H. Getman, died unexpectedly in her home, 12 Saratoga boulevard, yesterday afternoon. She entered Littauer hospital, Feb 26 and returned to her home April 22.
  Mrs. Getman was born in Johnstown, July 27. 1869, daughter of Anthony and Margaret Walsh Lynaugh, and spent her early life in that city Following her marriage to Mr. Getman, Sept. 12, 1895. she came to Gloversville and had since resided here.
  She was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the Women's society of the church She  was keenly Interested in children and took care of as many as three generations in various families in her neighborhood.
  The survivors are three daughters, Mrs Roy T. Meyers, Gloversville, Mrs M. L. Jackson, Fultonville, and Mrs. B F. Beverly of Tarzana. Calif.; three grandchildren,  two sisters, Miss Anne C. Lynaugh of Johnstown, and Mrs. Julia McCombs of Bridgeport, Conn : two nieces and two nephews
  Friends are invited to call at the Eugene Hollenbeck funeral home, 4 Second avenue, Wednesday evening from 7 to 9. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 in the First Presbytertan church. The Rev. Martyn D. Keeler. the pastor, will officiate. Burial will be made in Prospect Hill cemetery.

  Margaret Getman Beverly
   Margaret Getman Beverly, 93, of Towson, MD, passed away Saturday, April 17, at the Brighton Gardens of Towson after a long illness. Born August 10, 1911 in Gloversville, NY, she was the daughter of William H. and Margaret Lynaugh Getman. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1929, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.
   She married Brenton F. Beverly on October 26, 1940 and was married for 44 years before he passed away in 1984. During their marriage, they lived in Sheffield, MA during the spring, summer and fall and in Sacramento, CA during the winter.
   She was predeceased by her sisters, Esther Getman Meyers and Dorothy Getman Jackson. She is survived by two nieces, Evelyn Meyers Currie of Burnt Hills, NY and Nancy Meyers Beverly of Sacramento, CA; and a nephew, David Meyers of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by three great-nieces and four great-nephews.
  A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Gloversville. Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, Gloversville, NY.

  Edward Moyer Getman, 63, lifelong resident here, died at 10 last evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles G. Pfeiffer, 30 Summer street. Mr. Getman was taken ill some time ago. His condition had been critical for the past month.
  Mr. Getman was born in Gloversville, June 8, 1872, the son of Adam and Helen Getman. He received his education in the Gloversville public schools. Later he learned the glove trade and had been employed as a cutter in the Daniel Hays company for a number of years.
  He was an attendant at the First Presbyterian church. He took an active interest in the affairs of the community. His greater interest was devoted to his family. He had a large number of friends in the city.
  The survivors are one son, Daniel A. Getman, and one daughter Mrs. Gertrude G. Pfeiffer, of Gloversville; two brothers, James C. and Thomas E. Getman, and one sister, Miss Margaret Getman, of Gloversville; several nieces and one nephew.
  The funeral arrangements will be announced later.

  GLOVERSVILLE — Daniel A. Getman, 64, of 79 Spring street, a World war I army veteran, died Thursday night at his home, following several years of failing health,
  He had been employed as a glove cutter until his retirement a few years ago due to ill health. During his military tenure, he saw overseas service and in 1916 served on the Mexican border.
  Mr. Getman was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 27th Division Association. He attended St Mary's Church.
  Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Winifred Getman; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Pfeiffer of Gloversville, and several cousins.
  A prayer service win be held at 9 a.m. today at the Finocan funeral home with Rev. Charles Dammann of St Mary's Church officiating. A mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine's Church, Addison. Interment will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery.

  Dolgeville, April 6.—Byron Ogden and Miss Maude Moyer, both of this village, were married last evening at the home of the bride's parents in State street. The Rev. O. F. Alvord of the Univerwalist Church officiated. Floyd Murray was best man and Miss Lila Rudes was the bridesmaid. About one hundred were present at the ceremony. Mr. Ogden and the bride were both employes of the hemmer shop at the felt mill. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Moyer. Mr. and Mra. Ogden will reside in this village.

 - 52nd Wedding Anniversary (Leader-Herlad, Gloversville-Johnstown, NY, Tuesday, April 9, 1957)
  DOLGEVILLE - Mr. and Mrs. Byron Ogden, Slawson Street, observed their 52nd wedding anniversary over the weekend. Mrs. Ogden, who has been a patient at Broadacres for the past 10 weeks was able to spend the weekend at the home with her family. She returned to the hospital, where she will spend the next four or five weeks, before coming home to stay.
  The popular local couple received many messages of congratulation and good wishes from their friends and neighbors. Their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Curtis of Cortland, spent the weekend with them. They have two other daughters, Mrs. Margaret Young, Delhi, and Irene at home, and two grandsons Jack Young, who is a junior at RPI and William Young who is a freshman at Syracuse.
  Mr. and Mrs. Ogcen were married, April 5, 1905, in Dolgeville by Rev. Alvord who was then pastor of the Universalist Church here.

  DOLGEVILLE - Nov. 14 - James Durfey, a well known young man of this village, died yesterday at the home of his parents on Dodge avenue, after a long illness. Mr. Durfey was 31Tyears of age. He was born in Springfield, Otsego County, but had spent the most of his life in Dolgeville. He attended school here and was at one time employed at the office of the Daniel Green Felt Shoe Company. He had also served as an active member of the Alfred Dolge Hose Company and later became affiliated with the Exempt Firemen's Association. He was a young man who made many friends, to whom his death is most keenly regretted. Mr. Durfey is survived by his wife. Mrs. Jessie Moyer Durfey; one daughter Catharine, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Durfey, one brother Frank, and two sisters, Mrs. William Duffy and Miss Lucy Durfey. all of this village. The funeral will be held from the home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, and interment will be made in the local cemetery.
