 - Newpaper Article (The Fulton county Republican, Johnstown, NY, Thursday, December 31, 1908)
The Little Falls Times of Monday had the following which will recall the double elopement which so stirred St. Johnsville last January: "The memory of the famous double elopement at St. Johnsvllle in January, 1907, when Deputy Postmaster Trumbull and Clerk Harry Stichel both married men, ran away with Misses Elizabeth McGee and Grace Doyle has been revived by the return of Miss McGee. She is said to have slipped into the home of her father, Bartholomew McGee, one night early last week. She has not appeared in the village yet, Mr. McGee's home being in the suburbs.
A few people have seen her, however. Three of the four principals of that most, unfortunate episode have repented of their folly and returned to their homes. Stichel is again living with his family in St. Johnsvllle and Miss Doyle is with relatives in Chenango county. Turnbull alone remains away from the Mohawk valley.
His wife secured a divorce from him and is now living in Syracuse. It is understood the quartet went from St. Johnsvllle to South Dakota, and after they spent the money that the two women saved up they grew tired of each other and returned home. The moral of the whole affair is so plain that one does not have to run very fast to read it."
