Ross B. Perkins died Wednesday morning, Feb. 23, at 11:30 o'clock at his home in Eureka township. Death came after an heroic struggle with pneumonia. For a time he was thought to be improving, but he suffered a nervous breakdown and a return of the pneumonia was more than his weakened system could withstand.
Ross Blankston Perkins was born at Houston, Minn., June 6, 1881, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Perkins. He attended public schools at Houston, and later the school of agriculture of the University of Minnesota.
His marriage to Miss Letitia A. Van Slyke of Northfield took place October 16, 1913, since which time they have made their home on what is known as the Van Slyke farm at Castle Rock.
One son and three daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Perkins. The children who, together with Mrs. Perkins, survive are: Norman Van Slyke, aged twelve; Helen Ann, aged eleven; Jeanne Letitia, aged seven; and Ellen Gertrude, aged three.
Mr. Perkins was very much devoted to his family. He was quiet and reserved in his manner and was known as a good neighbor and true friend.
Besides his wife and children, Mr. Perkins leaves two sisters: Eleanor Maude Perkins of St. Louis, and Jessie Barlow Perkins of Berkeley, Calif.; and a host of friends and neighbors.
The funeral services were held at the home at Castle Rock and later at the Methodist Parish House in Northfield on Friday afternoon, Feb. 25. Mr. Perkins' pastor, Rev. W. E. Gillette, was assisted at the Parish House by Rev. J. W. Taylor. The burial took place at Oaklawn cemetery. Those attending the funeral from out of town were: A. W. Van Slyke and son, Dr. Clague Van Slyke, of Benson, Minn.; Eleanor Maude Perkins of St. Louis; Mrs. T. S. Silliman of Hibbing, a sister of Mrs. Perkins; and Mr. and Mrs. William Peck of St. Paul.
