Black River. July 31.-Tuesday afternoon, William Campbell of South Rutland brought Miss Ada Rice and David Damon of the same place to Black River in his automobile to obtain a marriage license of William Scott, town clerk. When they reached the top of the Middleton hill the brake on the car refused to work and they proceeded down the hill at an ever increasing rate of speed. Mr. Campbell succeeded in keeping the auto in the middle of the road, but when they reached the breakwater at the foot of the hill the machine bounded in the air, but fortunately landed right side up, breaking only one spring. The three people escaped uninjured. They proceeded to the village, secured the license and later were married by Rev. Latimer at Watertown
