Middleville — George Herkel, 84, died in his home here unexpectedly July 31, 1947.
He was born in the Town of Deerfield, Apr. 11, 1863, a son of George and Catherine Owens Herkel. He was educated in local schools.
He worked fro E. M. Burns in the lerather business for may years until the tanner was destroyed by fire. He later was employed by the Nelson Deloke Felt Company as a dyer and color mixer. after that he was employed by the E. C. Mills Leather Company herre.
He served for eight years as supervisor for the town of Fairfield and for six years was Herkimer County Auditor.
He married Myra Lawton, Town of Ohio, June 29, 1889. Shie died Jan. 9, 1945.
Mr. Herkel attended the Methodist Church here and was a member of the West Canada Creek Grange and the Royal Arcanum.
Surviving are three sons, John, Little Falls; Millard, Johnstown and Dr. George Herkel, Danielston, Conn.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow from the home with the Rev. Albert Judd, Herkimer officiating. His body will be taken to Watrerville for cremation. The ashes will be returned to Middleville.

He had lived in Syracuse and New York city. He was employed as a commerdial artist. He had resided in Johnstown 12 years.
Mr. Herkel was a veteran of World Wat I.
He leave a wife, Bertha; ------- Falls; Dr. George Herkel, Kissimee, Fla., four stepsons, Alton, Theron, Edgar and Donald Blodget, Gloversville, two neices and a nephew.
Funeral services were conducted Monday in Hollenbeck Funeral Home here with Rev. C. L. Schaertel, St. James Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
