F.W. CRISTMAN DIES; SERVED AS LEGISLATOR
Franklin Webster Cristman, 73, former assemblyman and state senator, died Monday at his home in Herkimer. Funeral services will be held at 2 tomorrow afternoon at the home. Burial will be made in the Oak Hill cemetery.
Mr. Cristman, a Republican, served in the Assembly in 1914 and as a state senator from the 35th Senatorial District, including Fulton County, in 1915 and 1916. He was an unsuccessful independent candidate for the United States Senate in 1926, carrying the endorsement of the "drys" against Senator James W. Wadsworth.
Mr. Cristman was born Jan. 11, 1869, in the Town of Columbia, Herkimer County, son of James and Catherine Steele Cristman. He attended Pulaski Academy after the family moved to Altmar, Oswego County. Soon after graduating, Mr. Cristman returned to Herkimer County and worked briefly in the Remington Typewriter Works. He then entered Albany Law School and graduated in 1892.
He became affiliated with the Charles E. Baker law office in Herkimer and the firm still is Snyder, Critman & Snyder. Mr. Cristman married Camilla Quackenbush of Herkimer, a graduate of Syracuse University Medical College, in 1903. Mrs. Cristman died in 1925. In 1928, Mr. Cristman married Miss Maude Elizabeth Rasbach, Canastota.
He leaves one son, Marx Q., associated with the law firm, and two grandchildren.
In Spanish-American War
Mr. Cristman served for 11 years with the National Guard. He first was a memeber of Mohawk Company No. 31. He enlisted in the Spanish-American War, serving about six months at Camp Black, Chicaumauga Park, and Tampa with the rank of corporal. Returning, he was made quartermaster sergeant with headquarters in Troy and resigned from the National Guard about five years later.
He was active as a member of Herkimer Lodge, F&AM; Little Falls Commandery, Knights Templar; Royal Arch Masons, Ilion; Herkimer OES, Ziyara Shrine, Utica, and was treasurer of the First Methodist church of Herkimer for many years.
President of Bank
Mr. Cristman was president of the Mohawk Valley Bank from 1922 to 1931; a director of Herkimer National Bank and the Consolidated Water Company of Utica for many years; also of the Folts Institute, Herkimer.
He was for many years a trustee of the Syracuse University; a member of the Herkimer County Bar and Historical Associations and the Ilion Philathea Society.

Clarence Rasbach of Canastota, quietly in that village Wednesday. Rev. William V. Te-Winkel, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Canastota, officiated at the ceremony in the bride's home.
Mr. Cristman is a member of the Snyder, Cristman & Snyder law firm. He started his practice in 1894 and in 1914 was elected to the State Assembly and was senator the next two years. Two years ago he Sought election on the Republican ticket as state senator, but was defeated.
Mr. Cristman is president of the National Mohawk Valley Bank, chairman of the finance committee and a director of the Herkimer National Bank. He is also a director of the Consolidated Water Company of Utica.

Ilion lost a much respected citizen and a faithful employe March 27 in the death of Abram Ward from pneumonia. He was born in South Ilion 63 years ago and for 25 years had been employed in the street cleaning department. He had made his home with Michael Foley where he died.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wm . Streeter of Utica. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon, Dr. E. B. Topping officiating.

Clayville — Mrs. Sarah E. Gould, 85, Main Street, widow of William H. Gould, died yesterday in the home of her son. Edward Gould. Bridgewater.
She was born in Ilion daughter of Edward and Lois Jones Ward. She attended schools in Ilion and Utica. In 1902, she was married to Mr. Gould in llion. The couple lived in Ilion until 1913 when they moved to West Winfield where they operated a farm for more than 25 years. They moved to Clayville in 1942. Mr. Gould died in 1961.
Mrs. Gould was a member of Ilion Methodist Church.
Besides her son, Edward she leaves another son, Albert, Bridgewater, and four daughters, Mrs. Kittie Naylor, Ilion; Mrs. Marguerite Warren, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Lydia Brooks and Mrs. Helen Crewell, both of West Winfield.
The funeral will be at 2 Monday from the Wilcox Funeral Home, West Winfield, with the Rev. Herbert E. Levoy, pastor of Leonardsvllle Methodist Church, officiating. burial will be
in West Winfield Cemetery.

Clayville — William H. Gould, 93, former Village Board member who in his youth had been a mule driver on the Erie Canal, died yesterday in his home.
A former Ilion and West Winfield resident, Mr. Gould had been caretaker of the Sauquoit Valley and St. Mary's Cemeteries for several years.
He was born in Williamstown, son of Joseph and Mercy Allen Gould. He attended the Parish school and moved to llion, where he drove the mules that pulled barges along the Erie-Canal. In 1902 he married Sarah Ward in llion and was employed several years there by the Remington Typewriter Co.
The couple moved to West Winfield about 1913, and operated farms in that area for more than a quarter century. They came to Clayville in 1942.
Mr. Gould was a former member of the Ilion Methodist Church and for many years had been a member of the West Winfield Dairymen's League.
Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Mrs. Kittie Naylor, of llion,. Mrs. Marguerite Warren, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Lydia Brooks and Mrs. Helen Crewell, both of West Winfield; two sons, Edward and Albert, both of Bridgewater.
The funeral will be at 2 Sunday from the Wilcox Funeral Home, West Winfield, with the Rev. Carl H. Yetiru, pastor of the Pilgeim Congregational Church, officiating, burial will be in West Winfield, Cemetery.

Funeral services for James E. Wilbur, retired employe of the F. J. & G. Railroad Co., were held yesterday afternoon at 3 at the Clarence Brown funeral home. The Rev. Lawrence Larrowe of the North Main Street Methodist church officiated.
