- Obituary (Daily Sentinel, Rome, NY, Saturday, July 19, 1924)
Vernon, July 19 — At the home of his father-in-law, Arthur Schubert in Oneida Castle Friday night at 12 o'clock occurred the death of William Etheridge, a well known Vernon man.
Mr. Etheridge has been ill for a long time and had undergone two operations at Faxton Hospital.
William H. Etheridge, youngest son of the late William Henry and Margaret Sterling Etheridge, was born in Vernon September 29, 1876. He attended the Vernon Union School and later learned the trade of a barber which occupation he had since followed, being located in Syracuse, Canastota, Oneida, Vernon and during the summer at Thendara.
Mr. Etheridge was twice married. His first wife was Miss Rose McQuade of Sherrill, whose death occurred several years ago. Three years ago this fall he was married to Miss Lillian Schubert of Oneida, a graduate nurse of the Broad Street Hospital, since which time their home had been in this village.
Mr. Etheridge was popular with a large circle of friends who deeply sympathize with the family in this the second bereavement within two months. He was a member of Eumenia Lodge, No. 295 I. O. O. F., Oneida, and ot the Oneida Local Barber's Union and for many years was a member of the Vernon Fire Co. No. 1.
The surviving relatives besides the wife and daughter, Miss Cleo Etheridge, are three sisters, Mrs. George W. Frisbie, Verona; Mrs. G. Arthur Earl and Miss Anna C. Etheridge and one brother, Hobart S., all of this village.

- Newspaper Article (Syracuse Journal, NY, Tuesday, February 6, 1917)
Mrn. Rose Ethridge will not have to move to Vernon to have a home because Justice Leonard C. Crouse, in granting her a separation decree, provided that William Ethridge must pay her $6 a week from his salary as a barber. Mrs. Ethridge receives the custody of the only child, Cleo Ethridge. Mr. Ethridge may see his child at certain intervals by coming to Syracuse.
When Mrs. Ethridge commenced the separation suit several months ago she charged her husband with cruel and inhuman treatment, abandonment, cutting off her credit at stores, and refusing to provide for her and their child. Her husband filed an answer denying abandonment and said that she refused to move to Vernon when he obtained a position there five years ago last September.
The couple were involved in a previous separation suit brought by Mrs. Ethridge about the time they parted. That action was settled and discontinued. Attempts to reconciliate the couple failed to bring results. Mrs. Ethridge was represented by Attorney Gerson Rubonstein.
