FORT PLAIN. June 23.— Martin A. Pickard, one of Fort Plain's leading business men, died suddenly at 8 o'clock this morning as he was about to enter his jewelry store at Canal and Division streets. Mr. Pickard was apparently in good health up to tbe time when a heart ailment developed, and although Dr. C. E. Congdon was immediately called and the physician made a lengthy effort to revive him, the seizure was fatal.
Martin Pickard was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph H. Pickard of Brookman's Corners. He was 27 years of age, having been born at Brookman's Corners on December) 12, 1904. Following the completion of a course in the public schools of that vicinity. Mr. Pickard accepted a position at the Beech-Nut plant in Canajoharie. After leaving the Canajoharie plant, he became connected with the General Electric company at Schenectady and he remained there for three years.
He then attended a watchmaker's school in Philadelphia and upon the completion of a course returned to this village. In 1926 a partnership was formed with Kenneth Bowman and the new firm of Bowman & Pickard purchased the old established jewelry house of A. Dunn A. Son. Mr. Pickard purchased his partner's share and became sole owner of the business through negotiations concluded at the beginning of the present year.
Mr. Pickard married Miss Katherine Lasher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Lasher of this village. October 24. 1925. He was a member of Fort Plain lodge. No. 433. F. & A. M.. and also a member of the Universailst church.
Surviving are his wife, parents and one sister. Mrs, Harold Cronkhtte of Hallsville.

FORT PLAIN, Oct. 25 — Miss Kathryn Lasher, youngest daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. James Lasher of this village and Martin Plckard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph H. Plckard of Brookman's Corners, this town, were married Saturday afternoon in Utlca. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. J. Webster Bierman of Coblesklll, Mrs. Bierman being a sister of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Plckard are enjoying a wedding trip to the western part of the state. After January first they will reside at Schenectady, where the bridegroom is employed at the General Electric company plant The bride is one of Fort Plain's well known and popular young ladies and the bridegroom is well known and liked in this town. The bride is a graduate of the Fort Plain High school For the past several years she has been employed at the store of A. Dunn & Son, in this village. Both Mr. and Mrs. Plckard have many friends and acquaintances who extend congratulations and best wishes.
